OK yes I know but/ recruiting
-
@BeddieKU23 Good points don’t forget we have Malik Newman next year to help out if we lose both guys and Vick should continue his growth, that being said we may not need a flashy top 10 recruit may a transfer and a 4 year guy.
-

This is more likely but getting Duval would be straight fire.
-
@BShark Duval would be a good get no question, I just feel like the NCAA shafts us on these deals with eligibility.
-
I feel like Duval will likely get eligible but it’s all about the $ so he may just go overseas anyway. He is one I feel like if he announces for KU, then he will suit up. However, it’s dragging out DEEP into the spring with Duval.
-
@BeddieKU23 got a question as I haven’t really seen any tape of Duval but - -is there a possibility he compares to Mello Tremble from Maryland? - - better? worse serious I dunno, just asking? your right the whole recruiting is just off the charts - - - - -ROCK CHAL;K ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
Not a fair comparison between Trimble & Duval. Not even close I think. Trimble was a top 60 kid and he’s been good for Maryland but he’s still at Maryland because of his shortcomings.
Duval is an elite athlete for the PG position, elite quickness, elite ball-handling. Not a great shooter although his mid-range game is pretty good. I don’t think it was a stretch to say that Duval could already be ready for the NBA. He has some stuff that just translates up the ladder. I think shooting and decision making are 2 area’s that will travel with him as things he needs to improve on but there is no doubt he’s an elite PG. I think because of how weird his recruitment has been its kind of kept the spotlight off him a bit because he’s clearly got top of his class talent. I think his father has been somewhat responsible for that happening.
I mentioned John Wall, Kyrie Irving & Derrick Rose because his size 6’3ish, developed body and elite quickness/athleticism give him the opportunity to dominate his position. Even Fox of Kentucky is a better comp then Trimble. He’s got some impressive tape out there but that’s always misleading when your just seeing the good.
I love that we got Garrett but Duval is a different type of player if he were to play at KU. Replacing Mason is going to be tough and Duval has that Day 1 skill that you look for in trying to replace a 3 year starter. He can get to the lane, dish, finish and he’s really good in transition.

KingOfBballMedia
Top PG Trevon Duval cut his list to 5.From my sources he wont play a min of college ball.He will go overseas and @UnderArmour will sign him. https://t.co/RYdqoPYp4H (https://twitter.com/KingOfBballNews/status/798981713502334976?s=09)
College Basketball
2017 5-star C Jeremiah Tillmon, an Illinois commit, is signing tomorrow. Many are convinced he may be signing at a different school, however (https://twitter.com/cbblatest/status/799036145577369600?s=09)

Any player, specifically Duval and Preston, who plays overseas will be 100% because of academics and nothing else. No high profile player has ever gone overseas voluntarily they’ve all done so because they didn’t qualify academically. Spots in Europe are limited to 3 American born players and those teams use those spots on proven players, not HS kids who may or may not be emotionally ready to live in a foreign country.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 they both maybe in the same academic hell as Terrance Ferguson was.
-
@Ralph I’ve assumed both to be overseas all along and I hope Self doesn’t count on them playing next year.
-
@jayballer54 Well crapola! One of these days the lid needs to come off for KU about getting top flight PG talent to sign! Wish Duval would be in the bag.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I still belive next year’s starters are already on the roster, we just need depth.
-
@BeddieKU23 OH ok thanks. I didn’t know, I know he is really good from everything I had heard, would be huge get. Who knows if he steps foot here or not, sure would be nice- - -we shall see ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Rack this guy. Ferguson would be playing for Zona if he were eligible.

It would take a miracle with Preston. However, KU has worked miracles before.
-
As far as KU comps go, he is kind of like a king’s version of Tyshawn Taylor.
-
From what is out there Preston has someone in his corner that has steered Jennings, Mudiay and Ferguson overseas in the past. The move to Oak Hill could disrupt that pattern as the Preston camp uses Oak Hill as their last ditch effort, something none of the previous 3 did to help their case.
Ferguson had no chance because before he went to API, he went to Prime Prep, which both schools were the same sham and are now closed.
This is the situation Preston is in. His Soph & Junior years at these schools are likely going to be the reason he’s not eligible + the concerns of his grades. I doubt he was able to get enough core classes his freshman year in California and whatever he gets at Oak Hill to make up for what he’s likely missing.
Duval is a different case. 3 seniors from API that played with Preston/Duval are eligble this year in D-1. They all spent just 1 year at API, which is what Duval did. Duval now finishes up at IMG. He likely doesn’t have much that will be of concern from an academics standpoint but you never know.
The concern is that Under Armour has been rumored to be influencing his decision. UA would pay him to play abroad. Now recently Duval has cut UCLA & Maryland ( the 2 UA sponsored schools) so maybe the rumors of UA have been false and Duval has shown this by removing the schools that were thought to land him because of the UA connection.
I would say as of today, Duval has a much better chance of playing College Ball then Preston does.
-
I didn’t think of Tyshawn, that is a good comparison.

Agree. Preston is probably popping for KU today though, so here’s hoping.

So damn strange. Quite sure it isn’t KU though. Don’t think Self would recruit a kid that has verballed to another school. It does sound right up scumbag Ford’s alley though…
-
And the weird gets weirder.
Definitely won’t be KU. And if its not Illinois the coaches and staff have every reason to be upset and possibly be looking into tampering
-
Not sure on NCAA tampering rules given what we see in football until kids are actually signed.
-
I was watching a podcast from a college scout that follows the Big 12 and while talking about prospects that might not play in college but go overseas, he mentioned that if the prospect is associated with Under Armour, chances are he will skip college…sounded like a concerted effort by UA to boycott/sabotage college.

That would explain the Josh Jackson overseas rumours. Those were definitely out there, especially before his last year/prep year of hs. Hopefully Duval takes a similar path as Josh.
-
True and he didn’t sign an LOI so they have nothing they can hold against him if they did suspect some foul play.

Assuming he ends up at SLU, tons of foul play with slime ball Ford. But, legal foul play unfortunately. Maybe that’s a bit of an oxymoron actually.
-
@BShark there were about 100 fans there Tuesday pm.
-
Tilmon made it official for Illinois. Good.
-
@BShark Billy is not announcing today. Maybe this weekend his Australia deal will be done.
-
Yep, saw that his mom said they are pushing for the weekend.
-
I do think that UA will start to push players to overseas for a little while. In the long run, that doesn’t make sense. But to disrupt the market, it definitely does. Try to get a couple of cheap future NBA stars early makes tons of sense.
The long-term move is not that though. It has to be them attempting to at least gain a 3rd of all college contracts. Once they get a KU, Indiana, Duke or UK they will start pushing players back to those schools.
I pray that KU makes the UA switch in 2020 when our contract is up. The younger generation is resinating with UA more and more every year that they grow. And, the smartest thing they did was become a “cool” brand that did focused marketing at kids and the younger generation. I have coached dozens of youth camps, and there is a clear switch from Nike to Under Armour as the recognizable brand for kids that are probably 10 or 11 and younger right now. Anyone older than that still has the Nike is God complex, but the younger generation is definitely leaning UA.

Slew of CB picks for Quade Green to Kentucky. Sounds like they are running with the comments from his coach on this one.

Hard to tell if he really did go Darrell Arthur or if this is just to drum up intrigue for the announcement. Hopefully he does go to Kentucky.
-
Like Preston is doing
-
Quade Green signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday night — the last day of the NCAA early signing period — and has already informed his future team where he is going, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told ZAGSBLOG.

I had seen it posted that the word was he had sent it into Syracuse but that was before all the UK hoopla. Such drama!
-
and most of it made up to draw attention to the situation. I’m not sure why this is becoming a theme

For sure. I want it to be UK, because Trae Young, but it will probably be Cuse.
Preston is scheduled to announce today on ESPNU. 3-4PM CENTRAL TIME.
-
@BShark hey thanks, can I ask where did you hear that? just wondering, I know from on here I had seen probably this weekend. - -I’m still even with every thing in question I hope we can get him to predict here - now him actually stepping foot here - -that’s a different story - - let’s just hope EVERYTHING pans out- - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
Billy Preston is set to announce this afternoon. I think we get him, we have been on him since 8th grade and he had good reviews after his late night trip. Just a reminder he is a 6"9 , 220 pound PF ranked 8th in the 2017 class. Knowing that we likely only lose LL and possibly Bragg down low it would be nice to get him and spend time recruiting guards.
-
After the 2 games Mason has had, what pg wouldn’t want to play and develop here?
-
that is if he ends up being eligible. This one will drag on well past his commitment/signing date
-
Fully agree, if Mason keeps this up definitely gives Duval & Young something to think about…

All over the internet now but originally per Paul Biancardi.

Seen it mentioned by most of the KU crootin experts that the visit was a HUGE hit for Preston and that KU really starting gaining momentum from that point. Let’s hope it does in fact lead to a commitment.
Bragg is gone 99%.
-
@BeddieKU23 Very true its a tough line to have to walk, recruit the best players regardless or just the ones that will forsure be able to play.

It’s what KU has to do to be able to compete with UK and Duke at this point. I think we have a lot of evidence for that at this point. Recruiting is cyclical though, even if Self has burned a couple bridges (by all accounts he has).
-
Definitely, nobody knows what will happen with him. The risk of being burned by him is there.
The potential reward is probably outweighing the unknown right now. Everybody wants top 10 talent, we’ll see whether he actually gets to show it off
-
the deeper reward could be in swaying Duval to join who just happens to be buddy’s with Preston. I think that’s the real prize KU might be after
-
