about 11 hours ago@drgnslayr that’s is a possibility for sure and I hope it happens. I just don’t trust Bill and this staff ability to create a roster good enough to win conference and national championships. Like I’ve said before right now the top teams not only the country but our own conference are bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic. Flory may have been those things against most of the teams we played he was just inexperienced. At the other 4 spots went heavily the other way and the guys on the bench of top teams were unmeasurable levels above ours. We may have had the worst bench in the Bill Self era with Mari and Elmarko getting most of those minutes. Sadly it didn’t have to be that way with guy we had in warms up all season. Maybe as you say those two transferring could be a huge blessing in disguise.
I still feel like we are at the lingering residue period after making the largest blunder in KU recruiting history... bringing in Dickinson. I agree our bench was weak. Hard to say Self has issues with recruiting if he lands Stokes... that will put us at the top of the recruiting battle. I think our biggest issue is development. Our starting 5 was solid this year and we didn't capitalize. When we did have DP, we didn't come anywhere near utilizing his potential. I've never seen us run so few sets or plays on offense. We can't blame it all on DP being in and out. Elmarko wasn't great, but he knew the offense. A little bit I blame on Self overtouting DP early on. That hurt the team. The other players felt a bit inferior and then didn't perform well while DP was out there because they thought he should control everything.
It's time for a coaching change after this year. We need new vitality out of coaching. It's not only Self that's tired...
Going back to our ability to recruit out of the portal. Look at the cumulative crop of guys we have snagged from the portal. Out of those guys, who have we maximized their use for us? If you look at their stats, most had better stats coming in to our program. Often they had better stats after leaving.
For one thing, Self's coaching style hasn't changed enough to keep up with this. His style was never to get the max out of players in one year. Back in the good old days, we would have players, usually for at least 2 - 3 years. Prime example: TRob. We need to adjust our system around only having players for one year.

Terrence Hill from VCU could be on visit radar.. sniper had a career game against UNC in NCAA Tourney
-
Perfect fit next to Kinney at the 2. We need to reel him in
-
Goode visit could happen early next week
-
Dai Dai Ames has a visit to KU scheduled for Monday supposedly. Its the 4th visit on his list so don't expect to actually happen
-
@drgnslayr for sure Self needs guys to stay and develop within his system and it has worked very well in the past. The problem is that isn’t CBB anymore and likely never will be again. We either need to pony up the dough to keep guys or absolutely knock it out of the park in the portal.

Ames is a nice player but the fact that he's been at 3 different schools is a reg flag.

Likely visiting. TBD day
-
Terrence Brown completed a zoom call with KU and looks like a visit is coming early next week. Bucket Getter averaged 19.9 pts pg for Utah. Had 16 in their game in Allen

Not sure this isn’t going to be the normal in another year. Won’t be able to hold it against them at some point.
-
Like that they’re going after guys who can score the ball.
-
My local intel is telling me Kohl was at the baseball game today cheering on the team.

As others have mentioned to me... one big question is; just how much NIL money does our AD and Self have available? It seems like we are low, probably because of the football stadium. It seems like ever since NIL came around we've had to pick from less talented players (as a whole).
-
Supposed to have more then last yr but the problem is prices are way up so I'd bet it's a wash. I think there are other factors besides the money that's an issue

Yes that has been my biggest complaint over the last few years is everything I read says we ain’t a top spender within our own conference even. Then you look at the millions and millions dumped into a football program to go win 5 games a season and it’s pretty disappointing. I want us to be respectable in football for sure but not at the cost of making us average in basketball.
-
Does anyone know if we are after Thiam? I personally think we should go all-in on him and prioritize him over Stokes.
-
Apparently if you want him you got to sign his handler to a job. That's what the last 2 schools have done. His camp is also not talking
-
Short and long term if the football program does not get this figured out the basketball team will suffer as it is currently financially. Revenue on the bball side is mostly tapped out from a growth perspective from what I see.

To those who have more insight into the internal workings, is there actually a plan to build a roster? Nothing discernible to outsiders. Waiting on Stokes (please, I hope that isn't the case)? Focused targets in the portal, or waiting to see other entrants over the next week? At this point, we can barely field a team, and not one that can win a game. There is a good reason why we aren't in the way to early rankings for probably the first time ever.
Several of the top portal guys are already committing. I've never seen anything like the entire roster jumping ship absent a coaching change. Is the expectation that we can pull a Michigan and draw (and pay for) 5 high level P5 starters? Or, at least at UConn with 4 along with Kinney or Kohl? Any word on the latter? It seems like the only guys we are in on at this point is more non-P5 guys - is that the best we can do? Some cancelling visits with us and committing elsewhere.
