  @tundrahok I’m looking at it in terms of Saturday. Villanova knows KU only has 1 good post player which Nova lacks. I can imagine the gameplan will be to double Dedric when he gets the ball and go at him on offense to draw fouls. Wright has out-coached Self in both recent meetings so you know he’s going to zero on something for Saturday. The first game without Doke didn’t really expose the fact that if Dedric can’t play 30-35 minutes a game this KU team is in a world of trouble.

  Looking at the most recent NCAA Tournament projections, 21/31 games that Kansas plays before conference tournaments are against teams in the tournament field. The 10 games against teams that are not in the field are Baylor twice, Oklahoma St twice, West Virginia twice, Stanford, Louisiana, Eastern Michigan, and South Dakota. West Virginia, Baylor, Oklahoma St, and Stanford are all in the KenPom Top 100. West Virginia, 34th in KenPom and in the first-four-out, still has a very good chance to make the tournament. Louisiana, Eastern Michigan, and South Dakota are in the 130-175 range on KenPom, which is still in the top half of all D1 teams. So, pretty decent schedule this season for the Jayhawks.

  Grimes is definitely in the same boat Selden and Oubre were recently. I am a bit surprised that its taken him time especially after his debut game against Michigan St. That’s probably what makes it frustrating to watch is how tantalizing that first game was and seeing where his game is a month later. Q just has to believe in the process and things will turn around. Saturday would be a great place to start

  In end of game situations I’m concerned who KU can rely on to make them. So far the only consistent FT shooters we have are Dotson & Dedric. KJ has good form as well but he doesn’t play much. Marcus routinely misses the first and neither Grimes/Vick get to the line enough to rely on. Team definitely doesn’t have the shooters.

  @HighEliteMajor Kemper and surrounding area (except for the Golden Ox) was a dump with not a good seat in the house, The Sprint Center is the opposite, good view even from the cheap seats and the Power and Light District is orders of magnitude better. Attended many Big 8 games at Kemper and have good memories of the games but not necessarily of the place.

  I don’t see Dotson leaving after this season. While he has incredible speed, his athleticism isn’t eye popping. He’s a backup in the NBA right now. I think he’s at least back next year, maybe the year after as well. His size, while solid, isn’t on par with a lot of NBA PGs. Remember, Grimes likely will move to the point in the NBA. He’s at least 3 inches taller than Dotson. That’s the type of player Dotson has to be prepared to go against every night in the NBA. I don’t think he makes that leap after this season. Steph Curry is thought of as a smaller player, but he’s listed at 6-3 and people attack him defensively because of his size. That’s the challenge Dotson faces at the next level.

  Dedric has never been a good deep shooter. He was around 30% in his 2 years at Memphis. Other than Vick, none of these players have a reputation for being able to make 3’s and even Vick has always been a very streaky shooter and a consistent guy. When Vick isn’t making 3’s for several games in a row, it’ll happen at some point this year, KU is going to have to get the ball into the paint and muscle ball it to the basket and live at the FT line. If I’m an opposing coach, I pack the paint and only worry about Vick on the perimeter. I really wouldn’t be worried about anyone else hurting me with perimeter shooting at this point and could live with myself is a 30% shooter has a hot night.

  @wissox ha! I pd for 3 months and I get the basketball games. I wanted the first fb game and the Vb games. You can’t really beat that price. Cancel it now and they will stop it automatically in 30 days.

They changed the name in the early 70s primarily in deference to Native Americans. They simply used their color – Cardinal Red – as the name.
