  I like the fantastic insights that so many on this site bring forward every day. I like Jesse Newell connecting us all to the live blog for games. I like the passion of my fellow Jayhawk fans! And I like the fact that this is connecting to the various sites as a sort of “one-stop” for all my KU hoops news. @approxinfinity deserves all the credit for providing such an amazing nest into which the former KU Sports intelligentsia could land.

  @drgnslayr loved this read. Patient well developed points and examples. Fun stuff. Perry needs to go hard the whole possession even if the initial option doesn’t go to him. Don’t just run the play and play the position. Be the play and be the position. Perry has to internalize what it means to be the 4. Post like a 4, bang like a 4. Though I think he should be a 3 in the league I don’t think there will be a good time for him to play it for us this year or next .

  @DanR - and just moments before, he poked the ball away for a steal, where Wiggins was fouled (no call). Could have been the hero. Hero to goat happens quickly. Let me say that I am very puzzled/concerned with White’s decline here. All of the preseason stuff sounded incredibly positive. Now, he’s just not playing. I am very curious of the reason that Self is apparently not impressed. Could just be better guys in front of him. But I’m with @BucknellJayhawk3 - Greene has significant upside, lots of positives ,etc. If that’s Self’s choice, fine. Go with it. I just alternatively feel bad for White.

  Mason needs to go back to coming off the bench and Tharpe needs to lead this team. When do we think about starting someone else instead of Selden? It seems as though Greene has won the battle for the other minutes…? Tharpe may be the vocal leader but Perry needs to take on the rest of the leadership responsibilities. Wiggins is coming along and needs to keep it up.

  Before Self came to Kansas, we would have benefited from a home-and-home with WSU. Their gate was decent and would be a definite sell-out for this game. It’s become tougher now because our non-conf is either home games, or some kind of tourney or a big venue. Still… I’d like to see us play. I like our chances and I like to own bragging rights for a year with a win. And if we lose it is a loss close to home and can only help put a chip on our shoulders for the rest of the year. And it does help us to play tough mid-majors… the teams we often lose to in March. As long as we avoid them, we always get the wrap of being afraid to play… and I hate hearing that nonsense. We have nothing to lose… it’s pre-conf and the Shocks are gaining rep. With the way they develop SOS now, it might as well be the Shocks instead of the Golden Buffs or someone else. It would do our current team some good to play the Shocks now. They need to play every style possible between now and March. I can easily see us get beat in March by a mid-major this year (again!). Bring on the Shocks! In the long run it could develop into a nice inner-state rivalry and we could use more games with real meaning to them. There was no meaning to our game with Florida… nothing.

  @Blown (response to LJW post, I can’t bring myself to post there still) Some of the rainbow passes were thrown by Wiggins, so height is not the only problem. The main problem with this team is experience. There’s only one way to get it; unfortunately for these guys it’s gonna be on national tv. Glad I didn’t have to mature on television.

  @globaljaybird - You are right. I just don’t understand any of these kids and what it takes to get them to hustle. I never stepped on a court in my life where I didn’t lay my guts out 100%. I’ve never left a court where I had anything left. I did it because I LOVED to play… and I HATED to lose! I played just as hard in front of a crowd as I did at the Y playing lunchball. I could care less about the venue, if I had a good night’s sleep, or if I was already banged up. The only difference in my case is I never had a big $$ carrot dangling on a string in front of my nose because I wasn’t at that skill level. Maybe that makes guys play cautious. I don’t believe I ever would have played cautious… even if I had to stay healthy to land a big contract. I just didn’t have an OFF button… or a CRUISE button. And I’ll never understand guys that do. I know I never lost to anyone who didn’t come ready to play. I just don’t get it…

  I was thinking of Cole and Perry… but neither played many minutes. Guess we’d have to look at their fouls per minute to compare. My point is that we’ve had some incredible post players come through Lawrence and most of them started off as big time hackers. They could star on the show “Ax men!”

  This is old news. It happens in high school. The refs are flexing against a big recruit. They are big time refs that want their day. Way to go refs, that’ll show those big recruits whose boss at the end of the day. I love Alex’s attitude and his hard nosed bball play. We are too soft right now and he will be a welcomed sight next season. Rock Chalk Big Fella

  @HighEliteMajor. Traditionally, the way to beat the zone is to kill it with outside shooting, something I though we would be good at. However, another way is to speed up the game and fast break to the other end before the defense has had chance to setup the zone, and if the lanes close, then kick it outside for the three or back inside via backdoor. Offensive rebounding is critical. Coach Self has the horses to play a fast game but our young grasshoppers have much to learn.

  @HighEliteMajor - Self nailed it awhile back: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2013/11/04/college-basketball-officiating-hand-checking-rule-change/3422293/ “And Self is worried about how best to defend a ball screen because the only way to go over the screen is to “jam the dribbler, which now would be a foul.”” Instead of the rule interpretation change, the NCAA should have put more energy into officiating games consistency. No more differences between conferences, and individual officials would go back to school to learn how to call a game consistent, from start to finish, from style to style. This reactionary knee-jerk was a compensation for their inability to just tighten down a bit in some areas and call it consistent. That is all they should have done. Instead, they opened up a new can of worms and more conflicts and more opportunities to call games with inconsistency. There is no clear answer for the dilemma under the basket… they’ll have to add amendments to the rules to make it fair. And they need to address offensive players and putting their head and shoulders down to create contact and get rewarded with foul shots. It’s nuts.

  @wrwlumpy - Remember 2011-12? Wesley would come in the game, breath, and get a foul. jaybate and I used to joke about that. It was like the refs saw KU with 2 team fouls and our opponent with 7, and took it out on Wesley. Of course, Wesley did foul many times. But I do believe that the better players get more slack, and the subs then get the brunt when it’s time to even out the fouls. Refs are human … they might see TRob with 3 fouls at the 16 minute mark in the second half and let some contact slide; then when Wesley comes in, he looks at an offensive player the wrong way and gets a whistle. Works for me. Everyone’s happy. We’ll see Embiid start pretty soon I think. @iowajayhawk2005: certainly a plausible scenario regarding the move being motivation. It will of course have that secondary impact at the least. I posted the other day about last season. About this time, Self was plainly upset with Tharpe and said if something didn’t change, there would be changes. Self wasn’t happy with much in Tharpe’s game at that point. He was razor close to seeing Rio Adams get the backup PG minutes. Then the light switch went on. I have sensed that Tharpe has never been a favorite of Self, meaning “Self’s kind of player.” Before the season, Self had said some nice things about Tharpe. I just think/sense that this change is more about performance than motivation. And more about Self thinking this team is just better with Mason starting.

  We’ve always called it AFH Rocky Mountain cuz AFH West was in Manhattan…but I think that’s now referred to as the Hawktagon… Anyway I’ll be at the game wearing blue! May try to follow Jesse’s blog on my phone…
