  You guys do realize that Florida came into this game shorthanded with only seven scholarship players and actually had to play a walk-on considerable minutes… And the comeback (that never should have been necessary) was achieved not by playing Bill Self’s offense, but by Wayne taking it upon himself to play his own game, namely, beating his man off the dribble and pulling up for the mid range shot. Remember the mid range shot, Bill?

  In the last 7 minutes of the game KU scored 21 points and 17 came from the free throw line; in that time Selden and Ellis had 1 FG a piece, the last with 3 and half minute left. Basically from the time KU got within 3, Florida’s strategy was to foul and send KU to the line; it backfired big time.

  @KUSTEVE KSU loss was a disappointment; too many mistakes and even Foster’s 3-point barrage a the end of the game was not enough. OSU got spanked by a very average South Carolina team, Forte went 1-14…that is right, smurf on steroid went 1 of 14 from the field. Why is it that he doesn’t shoot like this against KU?

  Good post, you make some excellent points. Especially about the three guards who played the majority of the 2nd half. I think this dispels some of the notion that Svi is the savior and needs to be out there at all times. While he is great and hustles every second he’s in the game, there will be times when we need different pieces in the game. I like how Self recognized that and allowed some other players to play a bit. Notably Graham and Oubre.

  I don’t think people realize just how good Frank Mason is. First off… he is only 5’11". Second… his HS role was that of a scoring guard. Some might even classify him as a volume scorer. He scored 50 points in the 804 All Star Game. Now he’s transforming into a PG. How many guys can successfully do that? Not many. Now Frank’s first role is to create opportunities for other shooters. We all know Frank has a ways to go, but we should appreciate how far he has come. And if you are able to do that, really appreciate that, then you see how much potential Frank has in his future years as a Jayhawk. Frank is the real deal. So don’t be surprised if he continues to earn most of the PG minutes this year. Cut him a break now and then while he advances through the learning process. And how about him averaging 5 rebounds a game?

  Not to be a wet blanket at this party, but didn’t I read/hear of a possible league lockout in the 2015/2016 time frame? I could be wrong since I’m not big on the league. Wouldn’t walk across the street for courtside seats.

  @drgnslayr I don’t think you can do that anymore. Refs are looking for that and with the circle under the basket, if the defensive player is outside the circle he gets the charge, if he is inside the circle is a block every time. With instant replays and multi-angle cameras, the refs get feed back fairly quickly. Where PGs have an advantage is when being guarded outside and the defensive player cannot use a hand check like they did before, if they do it is called a foul every time. As far as blocking, Withey was special insofar as he could jump straight up and down without leaning and his timing was amazing, a result of his volley ball playing, no doubt. Look at the game a couple of years ago when Nerlens Noel had a record number of blocks and I posted pictures that showed that he was fouling while blocking in most of the plays and he was not called for that.
