  @Crimsonorblue22 a couple of weeks since? I know when I flew 18 months ago it really messed me up for about 36 hours. Now when we were in Estes Park this summer I was OK, except when it came to being in shape for hiking at that altitude, but no headaches. I met a guy who played college football and while returning a punt got KO’d on the tackle. He moved to Phoenix because of the weather conditions and altitude. He hates the heat, but since it changes very little it helps him continue to function.

  I’m going to continue to differ with you 3 guys. After the Kentucky debacle, this tournament was a huge televised opportunity for Jayhawk Basketball to shed some ugly. Even with the trophy, we barely budged in the AP and Coaches’ Polls. Sunday’s championship contest pretty much came down to the wire with Jamari’s freethrows playing a big part in saving the closing seconds. This was NOT the occasion for Wayne to choose to get back on track offensively and shed his shooting slump. 7 misses, maybe; but to continue firing blanks beyond that certainly put his team in jeopardy. 2 more assists and 3 fewer shot attempts would not have stirred my ire. At the moment, Bill Self is depending on the experience of Wayne, Perry and Frank especially to lead this squad toward fundamentally sound winning ways. Yesterday, they were probably the only 3 team members who might have gotten away with such pitiful offensive production w/o being yanked. Wayne’s defense was essential to holding down Valentine, and he did a marvelous job; his ball control was admirable. I can understand Self’s reasoning (and patience) in not benching him. But yeah, if it continues in the Florida, Georgetown or Utah games, I’d recommend sitting him on the pine for enough time to capture his attention.

  @Crimsonorblue22 Even Vitale indicated that the refs did not call a few fouls on MU and they quit calling fouls in the second half… KU played great defense in the second half without fouling; MU never got into the bonus situation in the second half and when fouled, they had to inbound the ball instead of shooting free throws at the end of the game, a huge advantage for KU. Ku need to keep TOs in single digits. Some silly mistakes allowed MU to get back into the game.

  @KUSTEVE I’m not expecting a lot out of Kelly until January (at the earliest). Kelly is in desperate need of the Christmas break, when players have more time to dedicate to the game. Kelly needs that extra time to “get it”… at least, get enough of the game where he can start translating his skill set to D1 ball (and Self ball). Right now, D1 basketball has swallowed up Kelly. He’s lost out there. He just needs more reps, more times of coaches pounding it into him during practice… and after that he’ll need some positive play on the court to lift his confidence back. He’s going to be a great player, he just needs time.

  Xander was an animal. He’s going to quickly become a matchup problem for most teams (still thinking about Greasy Cal’s team - man I really dislike that guy) especially with Perry stretching the floor the way he’s been. The question and key will be “can Perry consistently” do this. Did I mention I hate KY…?

  First time I traveled to Kissimmee I discovered they had a minor league BB team called-you guessed it, The KISSIMMEE ASTROS !! Now that’s a moniker that deserves to be right up there on the marquee with the Australian rules fb team, The WOODVILLE PECKERS !!

  @HighEliteMajor As painful as the much to early departure in 1997, the 2003 was the most disappointing for me mainly because I was there. We were the equal to Melo and the Orange while the clock was moving. Unfortunately the lid was down on the hoop for to many FT’s. The loss and having to tolerate the most obnoxious fans in Nawlin’s that weekend was too much to bear. Syracuse fans deepened my resolve to never voluntarily visit the NE US.

  @JayHawkFanToo I was puzzled (actually disgusted) with our second half production fall-off in the Rider contest. In retrospect, I think Bill Self chose to let it happen. He was bent on heading toward the Thanksgiving tournament w/o the chest thumping which Jayhawks demonstrated after last season’s Duke game. If he had left Alexander in the game, we would not have lost the second half to Rider. Self chose to discipline his new player(s) rather than to allow them to run AAU Rampant.

  Good points - KU D is back and improved (last year was an exception) and is always excellent. But O is stale and uninspired for several years running, and we do not have the personnel to feed the post as a first option against superior teams this year. We are too small to compete in the paint against UK or maybe even TX. We need new wrinkles and more dribble drive. Not more set plays in an already complex system. And we need to shoot more 3s this year. I think our shooters this year are average (30-35%) and Greene and Svi are better than average (35-40%). Good points in earlier posts about the 12 foot pull up jumper game. The “team” game of less talented players beating superior talent is valid if the players are staying 3-5 years to learn the intricacies of the O. But the OAD players will never “get it” in a few short months. So we need something beyond the system and learning it well and executing it. We have seen this is the best way to have good consistent team play but the limits of the system has been one of the reasons for relatively poor tourney play and play against superior length and talent. We have seem some defensive innovations with more pressure and trapping and forcing turnovers (even if we give up a few easy baskets). More risk and more intensity is good for KU and good for the D. It can also be a formula for the O. Coach Self is just starting to implement this new more aggressive style on O. Rock Chalk!

  @justanotherfan There is only so much Hudy can do to prevent injury. They can build muscles and tendons around joints… but in the end, the more guys build up and do more, the more stress they put on the joint. These guys are increasing their verticals… well… that means harder compression on the joints. She does help them trim down, and that is a real plus when considering joint compression.
