  Shay Zeng has a KU men’s basketball team coached by a BHOFer battling for first place during one of its leanest seasons. His hapless but rebuilding football program signs the 48th ranked recruiting class and so adds the roster depth needed to start winning some games in a weak B12. KUAD has MEGA endorsement deals that allow it handsomely to fund all its minor sports. KU Basketball infrastructure has been enhanced till its second to none. Some progress on fund raising for fix of white elephant football stadium. No big new scandals on his watch attributable to his hires. KUAD selling merchandise and concessions like crazy. No scandals or budget deficits for his new boss to worry about. One bad early season PPV deal that nevertheless covers the need and cost to promote minor sports to meet compliance and keep non revenue generating coaches happy. Donations keep rolling in. Butts in seats. Kids going to school. Could be a tough out.

  @Gunman How about David Padgett? How about him? He was a good player recruited by Williams who stayed one year but wanted to play a style different than what Coach Self wanted. He left the program in good terms and never was in any trouble at KU and did well at Lousville…so, how about him? P.S. He scored the winning basket against MU at the last game at Hearnes Center, that alone makes him gold in my book.

  I just had a daydream we won our 14th consecutive National Championship… the game was called by Bilas and Fran. They both took personal credit for predicting this amazing streak… then suddenly Self came up from behind and called them out.

  @dylans The amazing Superdome… wow! New Orleans is an amazing cultural city… but the governmental corruption has handcuffed that city for decades. The Superdome is a perfect example. After the initial construction, I guess money appeared missing and required a formal investigation which didn’t resolve anything. I’m pretty sure the investigation itself was tainted in corruption. All I know is it went from being NEW in 1975 to a troubled facility within one decade. I recall visiting the SD back in the 80s and have a photo of myself standing on a burned up automobile directly in front of the SD. But then… what can you expect of anything being built over a cemetary… there are stories of ghost/demon sightings, even during Saints games! The Katrina disaster turned out to be a blessing for the Superdome… finally making officials punch through a very needed $320 million update, of which only part of that was direct damage from the storm. The Superdome has undergone several updates since Katrina… finally raising the standards up high enough to earn them a nice extra funding source by branding the Superdome over to Mercedes in a 10-yr contract in 2011. Actual branding vision: Better ideas: Or… how about the entire roof become a lit Mercedes logo… visible from Musk’s Tesla roadster, floating in space! LOL

  @RockChalkinTexas I’m thinking we need to extend our Texas streak throughout this season if we want to stand a chance at #14. Wow… Phog… what is that KC sweater he is wearing? Do you know, or anyone know? It looks like baseball. I’m already getting excited for MLB! I love spring ball!

  We’ll have to see what more we can improve going into March Madness, but I have my reservations about the BigDance with this particular KU team. BUT, the big fire under us right now is NUMBER 14…Think about it: We’ll contend for a F4 almost every year, but if this team doesn’t take that record from UCLA, then they’ll have to live with that fact, that they ended the streak. Jason King’s book Beyond the Streak mentions many quotes from recent KU players about “not wanting to be the team that broke the streak”. I’m sure some of us here have read those quotes. I know, I know that we’ve debated what’s worth more, conf championship vs NC…I personally dont get in that debate, as they are 2 separate goals, won differently. All Im saying is take care of #14, and it may set a record that stands for another 30-40 years. It ties together ALL of Self’s players, you know they’re watching, as their efforts built it to 13…. Worry about NC after reg season ends, although all the little Self details (that this team is sporadic about doing), will help get to a F4, if they can improve. I want to believe Svi about not losing at home, but gotta beat OU, WVU at AFH, & TxTech on the road. Hate to get to a final last chance saloon/Stalingrad win-or-14dies scenario…but we’ve come so far…(remember TRob’s swat of Pressey, and EJ39 game in Ames). Make those battles mean so much MORE now!   @HighEliteMajor If he is at odds with Coach Self and does not want to come back, his best option is the G League or overseas. I really believe a transfer is out of the question…but I could be wrong.

  Maybe Bill’s recent announcement will prompt Doke back to the free throw practice line before and after practices? Obviously, Doke’s rebounding numbers are miserable. But if he was working overtime in practice to remedy another glowing weakness, perhaps Coach would have not leaped so notably into his case. Right now, Doke looks to be a guy whose hasty travels to the NBA have been dampened so completely that he finds himself sleepwalking through many minutes of play. The guy has made many improvements to his offense, but is yet a defensive negative, overall, considering his size.

  I think Bill is waiting to go zone until the 2nd weekend in March or perhaps if we struggle our second game. I think he’s done showing it the rest of this season if he can help it. It’s his ace up his sleeve right now. The zone is the only thing that I’ve seen this team do well defensively.

  @Texas-Hawk-10 That prediction is as good as any. But this is so crazy…we just lost what, in theory, was the easiest game in the last half of our schedule. It is difficult to figure out what might happen…it’s like logic does not apply here.

  @jaybate-1.0 Off days are when you don’t shoot well, this wasn’t an off day. It was a stand around like bunch dead beats for over half the game. Effort has to be a constant, end of story. Self has not gotten these guys by in at this point. Sadly how could you not be fired up to a conference game at AFH at the 120th anniversary of KU basketball with tons of former players that left sick as a dog. Self said that is the least competitive rebounding in the first half that he has ever seen since being involved with basketball, which I said before he did and completely agree. I feel like throwing up everytime I think about how we can’t play hard.
