  We certainly suck right now. Why sugar coat things. Arizona St didn’t make anything they normally wouldn’t. If anyone has seen them play this is how Hurley has instructed his team to play now. Their guards are seniors and they know how to make people pay for any little mistake. They shoot freely and from any distance. Looked a ton better then what we have been clouting as the best perimeter in the country. Having more bodies will help depth and maybe bring this team together. Those are wishful thoughts.

  Malik Newman? Nope. Easy answer. We got spread out, sped up, carved up and served by a quick and confident team that took our best shot in the beginning and then issued out a good old fashioned butt whipping. We lost the game. We are not full strength and hopefully we can get it together. This is the reason I enjoy the hell out of every win. Losing sucks, but it’s not the end of the world. Their guards got in the paint, attacked the basket and made layups. Our guards got in the paint for pull up jumpers. Great lesson learned and plenty of game tape to review. We will be okay. We always are! Malik Newman needs and deserves our support.

  It has also been fun as it is reminding me of some of my own life experiences and bringing back good memories: Watching the “Durant Show” from the last seat in the house in March 2007. Being able to see the Iowa St. Vs Kansas game at bar on a beach in Ixtapa in 2005 (that was the only game I was able to watch in 2005). Here is an excerpt that I read a few times because I enjoyed the imagery: "Jeremy Case: that summer it was all about getting better against each other. I think we were going so hard against each other that it caused a little tension. There were a lot of arguments, a lot of fights. The most memorable one was with Russ and Darnell. Sherron Collins: We were playing pickup and Darnell and Russ were arguing about recruiting rankings. They were going back and forth about who was rated higher coming out of high school. It was getting heated, then D-Block started making fun of Russ. He said he wasn’t a true New Yorker, that he was from the suburbs. That pissed Russ off. Jeremy Case: Russ found a line on the court and told Darnell, “C’mon…cross the line right here. I dare you to cross it.” So Darnell crossed the line and swung at Russ. He missed, and then Russ swung back and caught him right in the jaw. Darnell stumbled back a little and then we broke it up. I think Russ got the best of him. Tyrell Reed: Darnell didn’t go to the floor, but Russ definitely staggered him. Russ started running around (celebrating) and pickup was done."   @drgnslayr Fumble? Shucks, our king of fumble transferred last summer to Arizona State. His fumbling was not at floor level, but rather in the rafters, up above the 7’ mark. (Though I write this with a sense of mirth, I do feel bad for that kid. I hope to see him lift his life together and step back into the path of stardom somewhere soon. Another Jayhawk “what might have been.” I am pulling for him.)

  We shot like crap against UK as well but actually made an effort to defend someone while also rebounding the ball. Your effort has to be good day in and out, shooting comes and goes. “If you want look at how hard a team plays look at the rebounds” - Bill Self. Now we were only out rebounded bye 3 but gave 10 offensive rebounds, 2 of which lead to 3s. The defensive effort can be summarized bye the first play of the second half when Washington buries a 3 while we have no one headed for a close out and just watch. Darn he made it, guess we should do again.

  @jayballer54 I think we deserved the ranking until we played last nights game. At our best there isn’t 3 better teams. When we have a game such as last night our margin for error is so small. We can’t play any more games resorting to Clay Young for minutes. If we don’t get Sam, Billy & Silvio into the rotation we have some glaring realities to face going forward. We are who we are until help comes and we figure out how to plug them in. We won’t face a ton of Zone defense going forward I think. We have some glaring deficiencies against it currently with our roster. Can’t predict what the future holds but a game like this in March will send us packing 100 out of 100 times. Nobody was a first round pick last night. Doke has improved and a zone defense really limits getting him into an ISO situation. If Doke thinks he’s currently ready to leave, well I wish him the best. I can’t imagine many scouts will agree with that decision. De Sousa probably thought Preston would be gone after the year. I have no idea at what point Silvio was aware he could join the team early or if this was always a possibility. It seems more likely that Silvio’s situation and KU’s situation is more coincidence and timing related. We really need him. McCormack will be a nice 4 year big at KU. I don’t think Dave is the type that’s in a rush. I think he’ll be the type of person who would thrive learning behind Doke for a year. It’s clear not everyone will be back next season. We have signed 7 guys for next year. Someone in the Newman, Vick, Doke, Preston foursome will not be in uniform next season. The only situation where everyone could be back would be if a commit backed out or someone transfered. Currently Vick is the only player that’s done anything to put himself in a position to leave early and be drafted.

  @dylans I was thinking that too…Billy being taller could have potentially been more effective in the middle…although we don’t really know given his in experience.
