Do we have enough basketballs to share with all the talent?

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@BShark OK, I always thought there was. So when Storr says he had a handshake deal with Illinois in February isn’t that a major violation of the tampering rule?
I think they should reverse the sanctions handed down to us a year ago as what was alleged then was perfectly legal today. Give us our rightful spot at the top of the wins race! Give us our FF banner back for goodness sakes.

@approxinfinity said in 2024 Portal Madness Thread:
Are there tampering rules around this? Once we destroy the NCAA who is going to do anything about it?
It really seems like there should be if there isn’t.

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
So I posted it elsewhere but it wasn’t seen. This is certainly the current face of the portal and it’s disturbing. If Brad Underwood was actively making deals with players while they were currently playing for another team in the same conference he has lowered himself to the dregs of the college hoops world in my view. Of course it begs the question was Bill Self doing the same or did he have the decency to wait til the season was over?

RE: Portal/transfer , now THIS would P - - - me off if true.
Well I guess I’ll post this here. Gist of the article is Storr was negotiating with Illinois way back in February and had a handshake deal with them. Not coincidentally maybe the Badgers after ascending to the 6th spot in the rankings swooned. KU at some point outbid Illinois of course. The article points out some of the flaws we’ll see with Storr too, and I think character is one of them.

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Someone wrote the portal is up to 1800. Where do we read of who is in it?
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
More portal madness. Chucky Hepburn leaves winning program at a world class university for Louisville. A decade ago that’s an understandable basketball decision but not now. But apparently NIL money is the game changer on this one.

Robby Avila from Indiana St announces today at 4. Promo says it’s a huge surprise!

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
My head is spinning. This is madness. I kind of want to stop being a NCAA football and basketball fan. I know I won’t, but to get all excited about this team next year now with guys we really have no idea how they’ll mesh, learn to play up to Selfs standards, how they’ll cede to other stars accumulated here, if they’ll defer to guys who’ve stuck around, like KJ and DaJuan, and etc are all in my mind.
And then, next April we’ll go through it again, because we have guys coming in who aren’t satisfied starting on a FF team.
The over reaction to the people who for decades have perpetuated the lie that playing for an NCAA team is some sort of indentured servitude is what has caused this to happen. And don’t forget, 3 months ago we were watching bowl games with half the starters gone giving a big middle finger to the school and fans that offered them several hundred thousand dollars worth of education, housing and fabulous trips to glamorous locations. So lets not only open up the funds but also open up the doors so that kids can seek mo money down the road.
I feel bad for the faithful to their schools players like Elmarko and Jamari who both have potential and now are looking at a depth chart that suddenly will find them much deeper on it. How in the heck is Bill Self going to develop talent like he’s famous for when you won’t be giving them the opportunity to prove they’ve grown up since their rocky freshman years?
HS recruits that aren’t Micky D’s AA’s? They’re sitting by their phones waiting (well no one sits by their phones anymore) for major power coach to call and offer. Finally it rings and it’s UMKC or UWGB or whomever. Time to adjust your hopes and expectations if you’re that kid. But then that system screws over the mid-majors who get decent talent and then lose them too, as the Mayo’s of the world give their middle finger to the coach and fans who gave them support. (I know Mayo’s a local kid so at least there’s some logic to his transfer).
This is all disturbing.

RE: AJ joins Jayhawk nation
Yes could fill your ear with the love hate relationship I have with him.
-
RE: AJ joins Jayhawk nation
Oh and now his teammate Chucky Hepburn has joined the portal. Disturbing unless he follows AJ to Lawrence. Similar in style to DaJuan so it’s unlikely.
-
AJ joins Jayhawk nation
7th school in 7 years. Got to be close to a record. He’ll give us some exciting moments.

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@Crimsonorblue22 I’d turned it off by then, was pretty disgusted, so I’m not sure.
Heard something interesting the other day about Danny Hurly. If he hears a guy played at 3 or 4 different high schools he doesn’t want them. He wants guys who will stick around for a while.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@wissox That being said AJ carried the Badgers through that BIG tournament to the title game. He definitely has some game.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@jayballer67 I’m the AJ storr expert here! I think he’d drive Bill kind of crazy with his careless turnovers and poor decision making and indifferent defense, like in the 2nd half of an NCAA tournament game and your team needs a stop only down 6 and instead the entire JMU team runs by AJ and he gives up a dagger 3 pointer.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Now I sound like a gossip columnist, but AJ Storr’s girlfriend just committed to KU’s womens team. She played at Wisconsin, as did AJ of course. She’s a KC native so it’s kind of natural but this could help AJ decide?
But you think that’s big, wait til you hear about…

RE: 2024 Coaching Carousel
Funny seeing them go after ‘old’ men when the next Bill Self/Jay Wright is out there as a 35 year old assistant somewhere who would carve his name into Rupp lore if given the chance.
-
RE: 2024 Coaching Carousel
@DanR I don’t think Bill is going to leave because of death threats though!
-
RE: 2024 Coaching Carousel
@nuleafjhawk talk around here is Donovan, and nearly all pro coaches don’t want to go back to college and all that it has become.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@BShark There’s this about Storr. In the 2nd half UW was making a run on James Madison, cutting it to three. Made a stop and then missed what would have been a big 3 tying it up. JMU races downcourt past a jogging and indifferent Storr and made a wide open 3. Game, season over. He’s not Jayhawk material.

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@BeddieKU23 Saw a tweet comparing him to Doke.

RE: Other bball games
@mayjay I think Huggins used to have beer during his breaks
-
RE: Other bball games
@mayjay I think you’re right, but when it comes at the end of a shot clock it’s like a loss of possession as it leads to a quick and frequently missed shot.
-
RE: Other bball games
Lynette fights back. I love it! https://x.com/barstoolsports/status/1777011554971521135
-
RE: Other bball games
Don’t know why the shot clock doesn’t reset on a jump ball when the offensive team has the arrow.
-
RE: Other bball games
Wow, an opposing coach goes out and confronts an opponent who’s walking off the floor? Not many coaches can get away with that.
-
RE: Other bball games
Sorry to put you on the spot Crimson, I just have always thought Purdue does things right, their fans are decent, high academic standards, no shenanigans that I can remember.
-
RE: Other bball games
Uconn learning about the Edey whistle. @Crimsonorblue22 why no love for Purdue?
-
RE: 2024 Coaching Carousel
Since Bill Self can’t coach anymore maybe Kentucky will take him off our hands.
-
RE: Other bball games
Hard to believe the Badgers beat that team 3 weeks ago. Purdue has only lost to Big 10 teams this season. Not sure if that means anything but here they are awaiting UCONN.
-
RE: Other bball games
@mayjay You’re kidding, money? That’s the answer? Hmmmm, imagine that.
-
RE: Other bball games
@Crimsonorblue22 I have cable so it’s not a problem for me, but I just don’t get the logic behind it.
-
RE: Other bball games
I know it’s kind of a first world problem but not putting these games on network TV is just stupid. The women will be on network TV
-
RE: Other bball games
@AsadZ I didn’t watch the whole game and when you really don’t care who wins you lose your outrage factor over calls being made!
-
RE: Other bball games
@AsadZ If you watch the one video on twitter the people point to it looks like it was a bad call. A different angle clearly shows the UCONN player move right into her path.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@BShark Thats what I was thinking. I think he was highly touted but Jawan did him bad by not knowing how to coach a highly rated roster.
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Dug McDaniel to that other school in the state.
-
RE: KJ Adams
KJ is one of my favs. Unique game. Wished his athleticism added to more rebounds, but glad he’s coming back.
-
RE: Zeke Mayo
I’m confused. He’s from Lawrence? Unless he’s advanced exponentially why did he not come to KU out of HS? My view is pump the brakes on the excitement. We’ve seen similar kids come to us, Yesufu and his ‘twin’ (I could never distinguish between them) had great mid major numbers and while they contributed a little, they couldn’t come close to matching their numbers in the minor leagues.
-
RE: Other bball games
@nuleafjhawk She was runner up I just read. Could have sworn they said she was the NPOY.
-
RE: Other bball games
@nuleafjhawk It’s kind of a common saying in sports. It means we get everyones best shot. Funny that ISU thinks they’re that team now.
