Chiefs signings

  • I’d go for another DE/DT for stretch run. I think we are well placed on DBs and LBs. Clark is out for next two games.

It is a long season and what we have learned is that D wins championships.

    And/or healthy offensive lines! 🙂

  • Patrick shreds #1 Defenses. Talk about a cheat code.

  • Reports are coming today that Chiefs have traded Fenton to Atlanta Falcons

  • I just saw that @AsadZ !! Wow. unexpected, and kinda crazy given our lack of quality CBs? Not sure i like that move at the moment. and the deadline has come and gone. So, not sure what else they have up their sleeve. hmmm?

  • They are counting on all three rookies to perform

While being a 7th rounder Watson has been best so far in my opinion although we haven’t seen our #1 due to injury

  • Chiefs are also trying to clear cap space and this move allows to open a spot for Trent M.

  • Toney is nice

  • yup

  • Wow, some wild finishes today. Glad the Chiefs game wasn’t one of them.

Broncos lose again to drop to 3 and 6. Toast. (I guess now you can call him “Not-So-Danger-Russ” Wilson.)

Buffalo drops one to Minnesota in overtime. Bills fumble in the end zone to give the Vikings the lead, Allen brings his team back for a tying FG to send it to OT, then throws an interception on what would’ve been a game-winning TD drive. (Are the Vikes the best NFL team that nobody talks about ?)

And a late Seattle comeback falls short vs. Tampa Bay in Munich. Geno Smith held his own against Brady, but the Bucs shut down the Seahawk running game. Hawks still lead the NFC West with a bye week ahead, then a home game against the hated Raiders.

  • No talk about that hit?💩💩💩💩🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

  • That hit. Well. Which one??!! JuJu or Scantling? Ha.

    I just don’t understand what’s a penalty and what’s not. So I dunno.

The JuJu hit seemed like he was defenseless for sure. That’s a penalty. Sucks a lot because he’s been emerging as our top WR target lately. Definite grrrr. He alive?

That dude (Cisco?) knocked the crap out of our players.

  • Helmet to helmet. Gross!

  • Pacheo is now the leading back, not a single carry for CEH.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk Cisco was head hunting. Too bad he wouldn’t get close enough to the o-line to get mauled.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk Chiefs said JuJu was laughing and acting normal in the locker room after the game. Hoping he will be back by next Sunday but it would be pretty amazing if he was.

I don’t know if the refs can review a play like that. The Chiefs quoted afterwards said things like it should be able to be reviewed in order to avoid mistakes like this, so maybe the refs couldn’t look at replay to see if their call was wrong.

  • @mayjay not reviewable.

JuJu displayed some head trauma signs like the Miami QB did, right? If so, Don’t rush back, man. Get that head on right.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk yeah, tua. Posturing. Scary!

  • The Chiefs have been linked with RB Josh Jacobs of the Raiders – if he doesn’t sign his $10M franchise tag deal and if the Raiders rescind the tag and if he decides to leave. ha. complicated. I don’t want no stinking Raiders!

    https://www.profootballrumors.com/2023/08/chiefs-broncos-interested-in-josh-jacobs

  • Interesting although I cannot envision this from happening unless Pacheo’s injury is still an issue.

  • I would be very happy to add Jacobs to the rotation of backs. Imagine facing 30 carries a game from Pacheco and Jacobs. What a punishing duo.

  • I am as well but at the right price.

Due to change in NFL’s philosophy on offense putting much greater emphasis on passing game, value of RBs is going down and teams are not committing $$ on RBs.

I too would love to have Jacobs in the fold, but think he will be cost prohibitive. 30 runs from Pacheco and Jacobs would have the defense softened up and is a winning formula, but what I want to see are the 45 pass attempts by Patrick!

  • Yea, i dunno how the Chiefs could afford/convince him to sign way below market rate – whatever that is these days.

  • Interesting article by an ex-agent who repped a couple of hold-out players previously. Analyzes several current players holding out, including Jones. Gets deep into the weeds on penalties that vary based on where players are in their careers, and discusses factors affecting how public comments can help or sabotage negotiations. (Note: The author refers to both our player and the Cowboys’ owner as “Jones”. Any references to “Jones” in the context of their OL Martin holding out are to Jerry.)

  • Jones wants $30M, Williams signed for $24M. Chiefs cannot afford $30M considering they have several upcoming contracts to negotiate.

I hope they come to terms sooner rather than later, get it done for $26M.

  • Chiefs 1st team Offense and Defense looked bad today.

Jones must be smiling watching D without him.

  • @AsadZ he’s being selfish.

  • Jones tweeted that he may not be back until week 8.

Is he serious or just kidding with fans.

I appreciate his efforts in maximizing his earning, but I do not like such social media posts, put bad taste in the mouth.

He is really needed for Chiefs to contend for Super Bowl but at what point will the brass say enough and move on?

  • I like Jones so much, hope they work it out and it benefits our Chiefs!

  • If he holds out each game cost him close to 2.2million. 1 million this year and 1.2million off the franchise tag for next year.

I’m not sure what he wants, but if reports are right he’s asking for around 30mil per year and the Chiefs are at 27. If he misses out on 10million in salary this year he would barely recoup it on a 4 year 120 million deal - he would end up 1/2 million dollars a year ahead at 27.5 million per year average. Silly

  • He tweeted something in that he can afford losing 8 game salary. LoL.

  • I absolutely understand that I stand on this island alone. Most others don’t agree.

Get your butt to work, Chris Jones. You’re under contract and now you’re hurting the team.

One of these days I’d LOVE to see the team just tear up a contract and say see ya, chump. You don’t show up for work under contract, you’re fired!

  • @rockchalkjayhawk I’m with you in wanting Chris back in camp. I myself would handle things differently, but holding out has been collectively bargained and is one of the players few tools for leverage.

I also kinda want him to hold out for about 5-6 games so his game day salary goes back to the cap pool and they can sign Dunlap or other Dline help, while simultaneously lowering his franchise tag number. Missing games kinda helps the chiefs in a twisted up way - as long as he comes back, performs, and doesn’t get hurt.

No kidding @dylans ? that’s really been collectively bargained? I didn’t realize. still hate it! ha.

  • Fact remains that Jones is needed for Chiefs to contend.

  • Hmm, looking at the WR corps for the Chiefs. Think we need to sign a real, experienced receiver? Not that it matters, but i’d guess a non Chiefs fan couldn’t even recognize any of these names. Gotta be somebody out there worth signing.

Wide receivers (7): Kadarius Toney, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson, Richie James, Rashee Rice, Justyn Ross

  • I like what they have. Likely losing smith marsette hurts. But don’t forget about the true #1 target Kelce.

  • If Ross stays healthy, watch out for him.

I also want to see Smith Marsette in the roster.

Can Veatch pull a trade or two to get DL help by shipping DBs as Chiefs have solid depth.

  • @dylans said in Chiefs signings:

Kelce. sure. i get it. He’s the top target. I’m sure there will be some guys let go who would come in handy.

  • Just to be totally clear…the Chiefs are in WIN NOW mode. So, help Mahomes out!

  • @rockchalkjayhawk I agree but without adequate D Chiefs are not winning anything. We have seen the movie in the past, they just cannot score on every drive, sooner or later you have to stop other teams from scoring.

The D is an entirely different matter…ha. Agreed.

  • From ESPN:

The Carolina Panthers acquired wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a swap of conditional 2025 seventh-rounders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Smith-Marsette was originally drafted in the fifth-round in 2021 by the Minnesota Vikings. He has six career regular-season catches.

  • Bitter sweet moment.

I’d have liked to see him make the roster but it would have been difficult unless Chiefs carry 8 WRs.

At least Chiefs got a draft pick.

  • Chiefs WR room is deep when you consider they can get anything for their 8th best guy.

  • I didn’t realize ISM had a total of 6 catches since being drafted in '21. Lots of talent showed this preseason, but against 2nd/3rd string guys. Seems awfully fast, but Ross is likely faster. Will track him. Not sure Panthers are great for anyone…

  • To get something for a practice squad player is pretty cool. God job Veach. ISM would’ve made several of the chiefs rosters the last 6 years - wr room is deep with mid talent. No 1s, no real scrubs either.

  • @dylans Yes I concur. I mean MVS is WR1. With Mahomes and Reid I think this is the right strategy, several talented WRs except for 1 or 2 elite. They can spread ball around.
