More follow up on Conference expansion

  • Well guys , sure looking more and more like expansion is coming. - Off the Arizona St boards. Arizona President Robert Robbins has given Pac 12 commissioner til April 15th to have a media deal. Either a deal by the 15 th it says or Arizona will have to re-consider their options which means starting talks with the Big 12.

Still no media deal and here we are now drug this out to into the middle of baseball season. -Arizona NOT HAPPY.- right now their option is Peacock & and or the CW. - total streaming. A reporter that has been pretty neutral on this thing - out of Ny usually pretty spot on with things says - - -watch out for COLORADO. - Colorado a natural fit for the big 12 and Prime time Dieon is demanding that Colorado go to the Big 12. - -Saying he doesn’t want his kids on any streaming also talking about how the lack of a media deal has hurt the Pac 12 in recruiting, recruits that was interested now turning away because of family and friends not being able to see the kids play.

Guys things are sure looking more and more like itis HAPPENING like it or not Yomark all over this - would almost be willing you can take it to the bank that Arizona & Colorado WILL be new members with others to follow -doesn’t bother me as it just makes us that that much more secure of a conference- - it’s coming

  • Not sure where to put this, but the Boards of Regents for OU and UT approved their schools move to the SEC during the summer of 2024.

  • @Gorilla72 Who are these teams you speak of? They are dead to me.

  • Guys things are getting really crazy , things are going to get even more whacked. Lots of wheels in motion , The Pac !@ had their meetings a couple of weeks ago - -Big 12 was in same motel a couple weeks ago both in Arizona. -The way the quote was Stated and told .

One P-5 university President from the Pac 12 said - - It’s not going to stay still , it’s just a matter of WHEN. Aaron Torres a so called insider/reporter for the Pac 12 said that he had talked to a parent of a recruit that was at a current Pac 12 School literally this week, The Coaching Staff of that School told him - - -We don’t expect to be in the Pac 12 by the time you get here.

The Pac 1 is crumbling - - has been now mentioned that Washington and Oregon have been Vented & Cleared by the BIG to join BUT yet the BIG doesn’t want to be the bad guy to throw the Pac 12 down the toilet People saying going to be a very interesting Summer. – The next wave is coming , They said Pac 12 may be close to TV deal which could be Apple and MAYBE they come close to Big 12 payout BUT the thing is it very well might be 80 % streaming and this is something for sure the Schools do not want.

As far as the Big 12 possibly between the 14th & 16 that they would be having Big 12 expansion talks and could have or could be solidified in a matter of weeks possibly end of the Month. Now I AM NOT crazy about names being tossed around - -possible expansion - teams not worth a crap doesn’t do anything for the league but some names being tossed around , other then the 4 corner schools are : - -San Diego St , UNLV , U Conn , Memphis , then others further down the pecking order - - -SMU , & Fresno St - - umm no thanks.

Ahh but now the plot thickens even further, very well a mutiny on the Horizon – A lot and I do mean A LOT of ACC teams are very disgruntled and wanting to leave the ACC, , now the issue is their GOR which runs till 2036 BUT the way it’s stated is that IF there are enough schools wanting to leave - -then the GOR is mute/void - - right now 7 teams want out - -if there is 8 schools then you have what you need for the GOR to be void

Then if that Happens you have ACC possibilities, you look at or you go for Brand and then Travel - ESPN doesn’t want to lose the ACC might re neogiate would be a possibility but things are heating up all over the place - you might add 2 teams from the PAc most say Arizona & Colorado - -and 2 from the ACC - like Pitt & Louisville has been very poplar --most think that NC goes to the BIG- oh so many tings going o One thing for sure like I’ve said before things are happening - -expansion IS COMING and the Big 1 is in the center of it all. - -Truly looks like ew are going to have 3 super conferences of anywhere from 16-20 teams - -be aware - it IS COMING

  • The fellow who broke USC/UCLA to the Big Ten is saying KU is a strong candidate for when the SEC goes to 20

  • Culturally, that sucks. But for future financial stability, etc, it’s probably a positive. If what he says is true, the expansion would include some other AAU schools (UNC, Virginia, Clemson), so that would be positive.

Honestly, it doesn’t make that much sense when there are other schools that would fit better (like why not Duke if you’re taking UNC?). The concept seems like a reach.

I don’t actually think this leak is a gift for KU. It may actually be a trojan horse. Maybe it’s meant to create some instability. For better or for worse, it will intensify pressure on KU from B12 and possibly externally and that’s a distraction with no immediate benefit.

  • Also, a reminder that SEC chief Sankey said that the SEC does not plan to add any more member schools in the future on July 24, 2023. Less than one year ago.

  • Ooph hard pass on the SEC for me

He also can’t say it because it would open the league up to antitrust action.

I’m a hard yes to the SEC or Big Ten. The money gap when revenue sharing starts will be so vast that we won’t be able to keep up in basketball, let alone football. That’s 8 figures per year our donors would have to pony up that theirs don’t because the media money pays for it all. The Big 12 is already a second class league and it’s not going to get better.

  • Know that the money would be impossible for the admin to pass up, just speaking for my viewing experience. Only good things from that prospective is that we would get to beat Missouri 3 to 4 times a year again and the kitties would be fuming about being left behind.

    I know talk is cheap.

I guess my question is when would be the next time that the SEC would likely be looking to expand? Would it hinge on their contract cycles (which I thought were in multi-year blocks?). Or is this something that could happen every year?

Totally agree we need to get to one of the P2 because the chasm is growing and in 10 years there will be distinct tiers if not newly created separate leagues/divisions.

Ya this guy has usually been spot on. He was the first or one of the first to tell about the Pac 12 going to Big 12. I listen to him quite a bit, the show is call peek around the corner all about College football.- -pretty good

When the ACC implodes. UNC, Clemson, and FSU want out ASAP. So whenever they can write a check big enough to get out, they will. And they absolutely will have a landing spot. UNC used to prefer the Big Ten (at least they did when I was there) but now it appears under new leadership the SEC is the play. FSU likely Big Ten with Miami, UVA to the SEC. If the SEC takes UNC, Clemson, and UVA that puts them at 19 and needs one more school. Enter the Jayhawks.

It would be huge, I’m all in if that happens. Not sure if we are tied/obligated to K/State like UNC is to N Carolina St- or Virginia/Virginia tech is or not at the present. NC trying to gt that fixed

Honestly neither KU or UNC are tied to their little bros. We may have to pay them off a little a la UCLA to Cal but they won’t hold us back. As an alum I’d be pissed but on some level it would be a little funny if UNC had to come to the Big 12 because nobody will take NC State

I’ve been keeping up just silent on the ACC implosion. there is talk that this could actually happen as early as Feb. With Clemson lawsuit & Florida St law suit and now word is NC about ready to - -the ACC is screwed–sounds like they not gooing to have to pat the outrageous GOR fee but just settle exit fee, but not near a much as though. - -Your right these schools want out. they see the implosion coming and don’t want left behind.

There is many many rumors about who is going where, a lot of talk about Louisville, Pitt, V Tech coming to Big 12 -mor talk still about Yormark getting Gonzaga & U Conn for Basketball purposes --it’s gonna get crazy but it is coming
