Knocking Off 'Nova
-
Grimes has just gotten beyond lost. - - Not sure what’s going on, could be something else - -who knows - -would be crazy if he never comes around - and still leaves or transfer out - - maybe he just isn’t adapting - -something sure the hell wrong.
I tell you what guys - -right now KU is messing with a loaded gun - -if we don’t get this crap straightened - - one of these times that gun is gonna go off in our face. – -we are playing off a prayer right now. - - Just for one sure would be nice not have to worry about it coming down to a last shot. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
Phil Booth giving props to Self for how KU kept changing defensive looks.

U c jay pulling his kids in all the time?
-
@BShark I know I was rude to you earlier, but I’m glad you’re still 0 for the season in picking KU games.
-
I’m undefeated in AFH

I shouldn’t have thrown in the swear. I edited it out earlier.

Is this just a reverse psychology play at this point @BShark ?

@Crimsonorblue22 Keep going
-

Well, I did predict wins for KU vs plenty of teams this year. Though notably thought Wofford would be a much tougher game.

He did say Nova got a break with Doke being out.

@BShark simple scope wasn’t so simple

@jayballer73 Well, you’re right on both counts. Grimes is completely lost. It will make the time he “finds it” even more satisfying … so long as it’s this season.
And we are playing with a loaded gun. We know it will go off in our face. Teams like this have the gun go off in March. We know that. A FF will be a surprise at this point. However … big “however” … lots of time to for cohesiveness to build, and identity to be found.
Funny how we thought we were so deep. Not at the moment.

very true - -I mean if teams scheme to shut down Dedric - -at this point and time we are in some Serious trouble. Again true and again at this point THIS is not a FF team - I think we are for sure over ranked right now. - -Top 5 probably a lot more accurate then # 1 - -sorry if that hurts guys but were – -just not.
Quite possibly for example - -if we had Doke playing quite possibly could of been would of been a lot different. - -Cause just have to have another scoring option , for sure going to have to have it come Tourney time - -but that’s along ways down the road - - Devon helps - -has played solid - - Marcus helps in a lot of ways but no offensive threat what so ever - -let’s just hope we keep sawing wood lol – get better. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer73 Jay Wright schemed to stop Dedric. He’s a pretty good coach. Could tell he wasn’t thrilled with how his team executed it though.

@jayballer73 By this time last year, we had lost by 9 to Washington, and lost by 10 to Arizona St in back to back games. the very next game, we beat Nebraska by 1 point. We were 1 point away from losing 3 in a row. I feel like last year turned out pretty good. One thing we seem to do well is fight and compete, because we’ve played and beat some pretty good teams so far. The way conference is shaping up, it might end up being easier than what we’re facing non-conf.
-
@jayballer73 but, but we keep beating good teams, not playing our best and short handed. Lots of room to grow!

I will agree with you to some things for sure buddy. - - The thing about it is - - we have been in tight ball games most the year – we have played form behind a lot - -this HAS to help us in Conference or in ANY game as far as that goes - -be like ho hum - here we are again lol - -but your right they don’t give up - just keep digging.
Still think we gonna have some battles though for sure in conference - -I think Tech is looking pretty dam tough - K-Straight - might give us some issues in cow town - -plus you have to think SURELY were gonna get things rolling later lots of room for improvement - -yet - -some how - -some way - -we are 9-0 - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

exactly - - we ARE winning - -winning ugly - -but were winning , - -if we can get some things straightened then will be in much better shape
-
A closer look.

@KUSTEVE Conference will be a bear. And this team is not as good as last years team. If DLawson or Vick has an off game, we are very beatable by quite a few teams.
I can not express my disappointment in Q and Charlie enough. I am in hopes that one or both will come around and live up to the hype. Plus if Doke gets back and becomes a force, we may just have a special season. Right now is helter skelter and just getting by.

You are impressed with the B12? I’m definitely not. Not saying KU coasts to wins a bunch by any means but…

OH DAM – didn’t even notice the 1st time isn’t that Tyrell?. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@BShark Not that impressed. Just know they are damn tired of us winning it. So we are going to get 18 best shots from them all. We always do. I am hoping these grinder games now will toughen us for the onslaught. And please no more injuries or suspensions.
-
@jayballer73 Sure is my man.
@Big-Clyde52 Understandable, I’m just not sure there is a great challenger to KU. Maybe ISU when they have all their guys but I do think Self is a better coach than Prohm.
-
@jayballer73 One of the hard parts of getting used to Bill Self was his penchant to win ugly, tight games. It took me years to like that after having Roy as coach. Roy would flambé teams. 150-95. Bill would’ve won that game by 7. That 2012 run cemented it. Bad ball.
-
@Big-Clyde52 I don’t see conference being tough. Imo, I wouldn’t be the least surprised if there are only two ranked B12 teams in the Top 25 by the end of conference. Who knows, though. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
-
I assume Coach Self encourages Garrett to actively look for his shot on offense and to take it. I love his defense, but can KU afford to give him 37 minutes of playing time when he’s such a liability on the offensive end. 1 point today on 0/4 FG, 0/2 from 3, 4 rbs. 1 TO, but 3 assists, 4 steals and 1 block. The kid is everywhere, but I just wish he didn’t set up in the corners on offense. I think he’s better in the paint for rebounding.

Ya , good looking out. v- -like I said when I saw the pic the 1st time I was just looking at Ol boy - -then when you mentioned - -sure enough - -he was a pretty decent player too. - Let’s see he played High School ball in Burlington right?
-
While conference opponents knock each other out. KU just wins, night in and night out. Every round of games 1/2 the conference picks up an L, but only rarely is it KU. By the end of the conference season we know how it’ll shake out.

I’d bet on three ranked teams. Seems about right.

One of ISU/KSU.

@BShark I would add TCU. They have at least 4-5 guys that shoot the 3 pretty well. On a hot night can beat anyone. ISU pretty darn good. K-state everyone back. TTech very good. OU better this year. UT who knows? WV and OSU tough road games.
We need to win all home games and enough on the road. As @dylans said, teams will knock each other off, then we can sneak in.
-
K State sucks.
-
@BShark my sister in law was just a little ways down from him.

I love this win so much. Only two guys on our team leave the locker room. Our big man is on the bench. Our other big man is in NCAA prison. Nova’s best players both have great games. We don’t hit FT’s. We make countless bonehead plays down the stretch. We still beat the defending champs and remain unbeaten. RCJH.

I’ll be honest I find myself wishing Sam had stayed and Moore left.

Excellent points. We haven’t played great ball yet and we are undefeated with victories over some real good teams. I feel good about that. We will get better.

Didn’t care much for Jay Bilas’ commentary today.
Didn’t care much for Jay Wright’s bonus timeouts at the end of the game.
Happy that the Jay Hawks won.

Interesting how people view past teams in retrospect. Many were saying last December that last years team wouldn’t make the tournament or win the Big 12. Again, pretty silly to make all these statements in December, don’t you think?

Since margin of victory is now a factor on the NET ranking, I did some math and was surprised our average MOV is 9.56/game. Since every team KU has played has been competitive at some point and several games have come down to the wire, I thought the average MOV was less.
