All Star games have become a joke
-
I’ve got to say after watching the McDonald’s game last week and the Jordan Brand yesterday, and then watching these last year - - not even why they have these anymore. They have slowly but surely digressed to nothing more then rag tag with the risk of injury. - Luckily for Romeo yesterday he wasn’t hurt worse then he was, took a pretty good elbow.
But Romeo’s situation isn’t even what I’m talking about here. - -There really is no set offenses run here - - - holy crap very little defense, if you ask these guys about defense in these games they would have to go to the dictionary and look the word up to see what it meant.
Basically all these games have become is simple o the offensive end pass and cut - -give and go roll to the hole - -nothing more then a lot of one on one. It ends up being whoever is lucky enough to have the ball in their hands then they have a chance to do their thing. Sure Quentin look pretty good in his opportunities made some really sweet passes, showed some ability to hit the jumper - -but for the most part more often then not numerous times there were player that just jogged back didn’t even make it to mid court on the defensive end,
I mean let’s be serious here Emmit Williams - -sure he is good player, but 22-23 from the filed? -He was one that they pointed out about classic cherry pick - -I mean who here in their right mind is going to say that in a real game that he is going to make 22-23 with 21 of those being jams passing the ball to himself off the back board - how many think he will get out of all his attempts in a real game he will get 21 dunks? - he is good but far from that good. - I would think he would kind of keep in mind that he might want to put an asterisk for the most points breaking LeBrons - - LeBron even at that age - - Emmit - -which would you rather have at this age?
Makes these games really hard to watch. - Then on top of that the commentators for these games just ramble kind of the route of Bill Walton. Turned on hoping that possibly that I might see some resemblance of a game instead I got to watch 40 minutes of street ball. - Personally I just feel these games have almost gotten to the point of a joke. - -what are these kids gaining that is going to help them in their College Career’s? It’s certainly not playing against elite defense - -cause there isn’t any being played in these games.
Now maybe at next weeks Nike Hoop Summit maybe better cause I think they are actually competing for a roster spot on the team this summer here aren’t they? - Maybe not. - I personally think they just need to put an end to these things - -that’s not ball. - - I mean when your highlight for the entire game is when you have guys going one on one seeing which one is going to out do the other while the other four members from each team stand off to the side tha’s what this has become? - - -NO THANKS – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer73 Hoops summit will be better. They will at least try to play defense, and receive some coaching.
-
@BShark Ya I’m thinking so to hopefully anyways. - - So what’s your take? - -Am I just totally off on my thinking or what? - I mean these games for me anyways have just gotten really to a point of being very hard to watch - You can’t really take anything about a kid away from these games
-
Williams - -sure he is good player, but 22-23 from the filed? -He was one that they pointed out about classic cherry pick - -I mean who here in their right mind is going to say that in a real game that he is going to make 22-23 with 21 of those being jams passing the ball to himself off the back board - how many think he will get out of all his attempts in a real game he will get 21 dunks?
Bill Walton phoned, he said you should check his stats in the UCLA-Memphis title game. 21-22 officially and 25-26 unofficially as 4 were disallowed as being dunks which were not allowed at that time.
You are taking these games way too seriously. The All Star games including the NBA are meant to be rewards for a good season and a showcase and not necessarily a competitive game since they practice together for just a few short sessions.
-
Yeah, these are just not serious games, so don’t take them seriously.
-
@JayHawkFanToo No - -not all taking to seriously - if I were it would be a lot worse, - -Some resemblance of basketball would be nice though
-
The game itself is a show. The scrimmages are where the actual competition is. That’s what the scouts go to see. They actually run sets in the scrimmages. They actually defend in the scrimmages in the practices.
The games are for dunking and throwing lobs, etc. Hoop Summit generally is better, as @BShark said. The international guys have played together a bit longer and this is much more of a structured game than an all star game. There will probably be a quarter as many dunks in the Hoop Summit.

That’s why I don’t watch any All Star games except the MLB game. It’s still baseball. NBA is the worst. NFL doesn’t have players from the two best teams, NHL, I don’t care that much about to start with.
-
@justanotherfan Very good points - just wanted to see a little more - -looking forward to next weekend as I agree maybe more structure. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

All Star games are nothing more than hype festivals. The sponsors get hyped, the players get hyped… even the popcorn boy selling on aisle 7 gets a shout out.
No defense… everyone tries to get in a few highlight dunks or whatever… and literally millions of photos are taken, thousands of videos… pure hype.
It’s all about commercialism in the most-commercial country in the world!
Once you see it that way, take out of it what it has to offer. Not much. Just a rough opportunity to see players at the end of their HS careers and moving on to college.

Except I don’t even watch MLB
