Next 2 games- Is KSU a bellwether indicator for WV?

Is the KSU game tomorrow a bellwether indicator of our potential performance against WV foulers?
Haven’t seen many other league games but historically KSU has played strong defense. We’ve struggled against pressure D. Can they guard our perimeter?
Right now, I think we get destroyed by WV. But if KSU brings pressure and we get our legs under us (assuming we have legs left for Mon) perhaps we can find a way through breaking the pressure - if we can hit layups better than vs ISU.
Tough stretch!

Just saw Jesse posted his Quick Scout. Sounds like could depend on which KSU team shows up: pre-Big12 or last 4 games for defending the 3.

I see KU pulling away and winning 82-70.

Increasingly each game is an indicator of how KU will shoot the trey the next game.
If they are hot against KSU, they will be cold against WVU, and so will lose.
If they are cold against KSU, they will be hot against WVU, and so will win.
If they are middling against KSU, it could go either way against WVU, and so there is no predicting how they will do against WVU.
What we can say with confidence is that KU will be mugged by WVU.

@jaybate-1.0 agreed on the mugging. Not sure how well we will handle that.

Who guards Dean Wade? Mitch Slap? Can Doke? Svi?

I wish this was the case against WV - - BUT sorry to say, that this year I’m afraid if were hot from the three at WV – we lose - - -if were cold from the three at WV - -we get buried, I just think this is probably WV year - oh what the hell I just say? - -slap me - - wash my mouth out - I didn’t just say that did I? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

My personal thinking is that it will probably SVI - - oh lord Wade go off for 30 - -SVI defense is horrible , but that is who I think will. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@HighEliteMajor I would say Svi when Doke is in…Mitch when Doke is out. I worry…but they also have to guard Doke.

@JayHawkFanToo Works for me. Don’t care about Monday. Don’t care about the NCAA issue. Don’t care about anything but a victory over KSU, at least until 2 o’clock.
-
Well, Monday night’s matchup is what it is…a nightmare outing. But one thing is for certain this very morning. Bill Self had best amp his minions to 95% effort vs. the 80% we witnessed vs. Iowa State. This in-state rivalry wreaks of desperation preparation by Mr. Weber and Co. Per usual, will probably be a nail biter, at least through 37 minutes.

KU by 12. - -there you heard it - - This is Paul Harvey - - - -GOOD DAY. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I think they already heard it from me above.

Self has to play for at least a split, so he has to get them up for KSU, then hope for a hot hand and morphing zones to carry the day in Morgantown. Translation: be willing to take a loss on short rest in Morgantown. Only unacceptable scenario is 0-2.

@Bwag We missed too many of those layups in the ksu game today. I’m flummoxed at why this team can’t quite finish at the rim at times. I was taken by Svi’s missed dunk. It was a great move, but he couldn’t finish. You have to be really strong and prevent any defender from challenging the shot. He went too soft and the ksu kid disrupted enough for him to miss the flush.
Also, did the foul on Stockard III look familiar against Doke. He backed into Doke … it looked too similar and thought the foul was on Doke, like last time. Big Doke came down awkward yet again.
-
@truehawk93 Yes…those missed layups drove me crazy. We might have been able to demoralize them early if we hadn’t missed a couple of those in the first half.
-
Sometimes I feel like Graham particularly just knows he’s gonna get fouled. Or assumes it will be called and thus doesn’t even really try hard to finish at the rim… it bugs me. It is absolutely one of the major things Frank had in his game. Yes he would draw fouls. But he learned how to focus on finishing those drives also.

Agree with everything you said. Devonte is throwing up a prayer when he drives in traffic. Key point you made though - Frank “learned” - he was terrible at finishing but it was a skill he perfected over his 4 years. I remember the discussions that Frank needed to drive to kick out, but it took him a while to consistently add that to his game. Remember all the debate about Frank vs Sherron?
Devonte has not been developing that - because Frank did - and now Devonte is in year 1 to 2 of learning. We’ll see how fast he can get there.
-
@Bwag while i agree Frank learned to drive and kick I would never say Frank was a terrible finisher. He always had freakishly good body control on his drive, with the ability to finish many ways through contact.
-
Mason is a freak athlete and a strong one as well so he could elevate, absorb the foul and finish/score; we don’t have anyone in the current team capable of doing the same thing.
-
Anyone see the drama with tech court storming. A fan got too close to a wv player and the player threw a punch. I believe it was Wesley Harris who threw it from the video I just saw on espn. Can imagine he will be disciplined…after Monday though
