Dorance Armstrong declares for the Draft...

  • KU’s best defensive player, Dorance Armstrong, declares for the Draft. leaving an already thin team thinner. Not necessarily unexpected but sure makes Coach Beaty’s job a little more difficult.

  • This is no surprise for sure. - - ROCK CHAK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • They had an article today, talking about they think this Azur Kamara a 6’6 230 DE - might be able to replace Armstrong.

One of the Juco’s he had other offers from : Arizona , Arizona State, Baylor , Florida State, Iowa state, Ol Mississippi , Nebraska , Oklahoma State , & others ranked the # 48 in rivals top 100 juco’s have to wait and see how he plays out

  • Football offers are funny things. I doubt he could have actually committed to most of those schools if he picked KU.

  • CRAP. Now i’ll bet we have a lousy football team next year.

  • Dorance will likely be a 2nd or 3rd round pick barring any surprises at the Combine or his Pro Day.

Daniel Wise is the other guy to keep an eye on as he’s also on some NFL radars. He’s much less likely to go, but we’ll know by Jan. 15 if he’s going pro or not.

I recommend reading articles about football recruiting and “offers”.

  • @BShark I believe the SEC got rid of pulled offers (grayshirt offers?). So the OleMiss offer probably could have been accepted at least. But I might not be talking about what you are implying.

Players report offers they don’t have all the time.

  • @BShark Oh. I assume the schools aren’t exactly thrilled by that!

    Yeah it’s messy.

This is a pretty good article about it: https://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2017/2/1/14433518/national-signing-day-hat-ceremony-offer

So probably like the offers that the 2 Louisiana high school studs that committed to us - -they probably didn’t get all their offers either huh? I get it - they just name schools to make it look impressive gotcha ya. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Jayballer54 Happens the other way too. Kids in basketball claim a KU offer when KU would not accept their commitment…

  • Remember @Jayballer54 we had more than 2 studs from LA committed but when other schools came calling we only held on to two and we also lost stud QB Clayton Tune. That said considering our record and that we have a lame duck head coach I’d say the early part of the class did quite well.

Also, other schools were still interested in Harris. He got offers and I think took a visit to another school while committed to KU . Football recruiting is funny like that. For whatever reason he stuck it out so he is a solid recruiting win.

I’m not sure KU will ever get to the point where we are big boy recruiting in football. And that’s OKAY, it’s probably for the best in fact.

  • The typical football program takes 20-30 players every year and since there is a limited supply of 5 and 4 star players, the average 3 star player can name any program and has decent chance of getting there. At the bottom programs like KU he would be a starter and at the top programs likely a role or practice player.

Basketball is different insofar as the typical program has only 4 or 5 spots available and the top programs will take the the lion’s share of the top players and, even when many players might and do list the top programs as potential destination, in reality most do not have a realistic chance of joining any of the top programs they list.

  • With football, you have to wait for most recruits to develop anyway. Only a few guys are really ready to play as true freshmen. The rest need a year of development, either as a redshirt, or as a backup/special teams player. So while some of the best (the five stars and the top 4 stars) will be ready out of the gate, many of the remaining players will sink or swim based on how they develop. This is why a 2 star like Aqib Talib can go on to be an All Pro type player, while a 4 star might flame out.

Some kids can dominate lesser athletes in high school, but never adapt to handling guys that are as big and as strong as they are. Lots of linemen end up like this on both sides of the ball. They overwhelm high school players, then can’t even get off a block in college.

  • @justanotherfan With football recruits, it tends to be the skill position players that can play and be productive early on because those positions don’t require the physical development that linemen need.

Dorance is an outlier because he had a great season at DE as a true sophomore which is not normal.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

Absolutely agree. Skill guys, particularly RBs and WRs, can help right away because if you have speed, or elusiveness, that translates right away, particularly if you play for a coach that can get you in good situations.
