WOW!!! The NCAA finally announced the penalties for Louisville and it looks like it will have to forfeit its National Championship among other penalties…
Now, we all know that UK shopuld be at the receiving end of similar penalties and hopefully, justice will eventually prevail.

@JayHawkFanToo There’s been several teams over the years that should’ve forfeited titles, but it’s never happened and it won’t now even if it should. And I’m not just talking about basketball, this includes football as well.
There will be some kind of deal made that will allow Louisville to keep their title.

Had Memphis won in 2008 it would have forfeited the title. If it sticks, UNC will have to be scared.

@JayHawkFanToo NCAA doesn’t give a crap about the runner ups. Plenty of them have vacated their Final Four’s. They’ve never forced a champ to do so and Louisville won’t be the first. NCAA will do everything to Louisville but make them vacate the 2013 national title.
This isn’t the first time a situation like this has come up before. Duke didn’t forfeit their Corey Magette title, Miami didn’t forfeit any of their football titles in the 80’s or 90’s despite what that program did. There’s too many examples of the NCAA not forcing a program to vacate a title when they should have to make me believe that Louisville is vacating the 2013 title.
Fines, probabation, vacating wins in the surrounding seasons, postseason bans are all options, but Louisville will not be giving up the 2013 title when this is finished.

That is incorrect. Many teams have lost their NCAA titles including USC in football in 2004 which is a much bigger deal than basketball. The violations are a lot more serious this time around including Loss of Institutional Control.

@JayHawkFanToo And yet no basketball programs despite teams that have had players paid by agents, found guilty of point shaving and other issues over the years. The NCAA Tournament is what funds the NCAA, they’re not screwing that up by forcing a team to give up a title and starting the domino effect of the P5 forming their own governing body.
The NCAA will do everything to Louisville but make them take down the 2013 banner.

What you are saying is that they were penalized ONLY because the lost that final game and if they would have won instead, say Memphis beat KU, then they would have not been stripped of their Final Four appearance because the NCAA would not take the title away? I don’t mean any disrespect but that is non-sensical. As I mentioned, the NCAA stripped USC of the title in football which is a much bigger deal than the basketball title.

@JayHawkFanToo Again, the NCAA Tournament is what single handily funds the NCAA. The NCAA is not going to risk having the P5 conferences break away and form a new governing body by taking away a title from one of them.

What you are saying then is that if any of the 5 teams that finished runner up would have won the tournament instead, it would not have had its Final Four vacated? In other words, if you are going to cheat be sure you win the NCAA Tournament and you will not be stripped of your Final our appearance?
Sorry guys but I will stick with nonsensical. If it is determined that any of the players involved was part of the championship game then the title will be stripped. I guess we will find out soon enough.

@JayHawkFanToo Yes, that is what I’m saying and yes, it is non-sensical, but when has common sense and the NCAA ever gone together?
The Miami Hurricanes were doing far worse stuff than SMU around the same time as SMU, but the were a marques name and escaped a death penalty they should’ve received based on tge death penalty SMU got.
The NCAA is many things, consistent is not one of them.
