Other Games 2025-2026

It was an interesting game given both teams had lost valuable members of the team and have had to adjust. BYU is still a dangerous team. Tech too.
I wouldn't expect either of them to make the FF, but Elite Eight isn't out of the question depending on their draws.
Big10 also has numerous good teams at the top of their league. I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA Elite Eight is mostly the B1G vs B12 invitational with Florida and Duke.
-
Our only really tough game would be Houston.
-
TCU, if they win their first game will be a really tough one. Took us to OT in Allen and are 8-2 since Feb 1st. They only played Iowa St and Tech during that stretch, but they are playing good ball. Dixon has done a great job somehow with that roster.

@BeddieKU23 They are scrappy. I wouldn't hate if we grabbed Punch out of the portal should he enter.
-
Punch is certainly on the radar if we lose Tiller I would think.

Without knowing the money both are asking for I would rather have Punch.
-
I don’t know what we are talking about but as far as names go, I’m drinking the Koolaid on Punch.
-
There are tradeoffs to both. I don't see the fit with Punch if Flory is here as you're getting more or less the same player in ways. The defense would be stellar and currently Punch is the better offensive player as far as output but he's option 1 at TCU. I think Punch would have to play the 5 here to be effective within the offense.
Tiller's ceiling is higher and his developing inside/out game I think is worth betting on for another season. Would be hard to see a young talent go somewhere else and make the league. I don't think KU can afford to let that happen.
-
David Punch, leading scorer for TCU.
-
What's your thoughts on Dawes from Utah as another potential within the conference? I think he's the perfect comp to what we want Tiller to become as far as Scoring/Rebounding. I think he's a really good fit potentially. While we are at it, Brown would be a terrific replacement for Peterson/Council. He's gonna average 20+ a game next season somewhere.
If Flory isn't here next season which is really hard to imagine or even say, Moustapha Thiam from within the conference would be my #1 Flory replacement. He's already been at 2 Big-12 teams so why not a 3rd LOL.
Massamba Diop obviously has already been posted as a possibility here, but we saw last week he's more Tiller than Flory from play style currently. Still, that's a really talented kid that could be effective here. Good to also note that both coaches could be fired soon at those schools so both are likely on the move anyway. -
@beddieku23 youre on fire with portal identification. Hope someone on the staff is as locked in already.

They better be

I am of the opinion that if Flory is wanting 4M he can have fun at Duke. I would rather keep him but at some point he isn't worth it.
I get what you are saying. Tiller has really frustrated me lately and he is so damn soft which I really worry about without Mel and Tre around. Overall if retaining Tiller and Flory can make sense financially it is what I prefer. Having familiarity and already playing together goes a long way.

It's also a barometer of where the team could go in the big one. Both titles in the Self Era came after winning the Big 12 tourney.
For this team specifically, they need to prove they can play their best away from home. It's looked really bad recently. KC isn't even a real road game but its not Allen so it's at least a chance to figure things out this week. Peterson could be the x factor with how his health looked yesterday. Timing is impeccable
I’m personally still not sold on a deep run in either tournament. Yes it was nice to whip little bro Saturday but they are a really bad team this season. One of their worst in recent memory. We haven’t been great at home against inferior opponents either. The Utah game is likely a loss against anyone else in the conference and the Cincinnati was a dirty joke not even a funny one. I’m always excited for March but im not expecting anything.

Utah is heinous but he was a bright spot for them. Can shoot it, great rebounder. Perhaps not a great defender but it can be hard to figure that as Utah was just so bad as a team defensively.
Guard wise we would be small with this kid and TK but I really like Isaiah Johnson at Colorado.
Thiam would probably drive Bill (if he is here
) nuts. Diop and Sylla both interesting options. -
Haven't heard or seen the Flory chatter but man I can see scenario's where my fandom for just about everything can come to an end if certain things happen.
Tiller has been very frustrating the past week or so. They won't survive games if he plays like Saturday in the tournament imo. I see it as growing pains for a player that's still behind on getting up to speed and been forced into it against the most brutal schedule. Still hopeful for a good finish from him. There's a lot of incentive to do so at this time of the year.
-
I think it's best to just take it one game at a time. They are what they are.
If we are clinging onto some optimism of deep runs this week and the following weeks, it's starts with #22 being healthy as he finally was Saturday. Overall, it's about team defense, rebounding and scoring as efficient as possible. All 3 phases have seen inconsistencies of late and we just have to trust that Self will have them prepared and the leadership of the team will take over and execute.
-
I hadn't seen the Dawes chatter but based on what I've seen from him he looks like a guy that was playing for a bump in pay somewhere else. He also played well against KU the last two years which is another good sign.
Johnson is good & that's another coach on the hotseat but agree that backcourt would be very small. I was going to say Self might want to follow in the footsteps of getting someone like Council (not just leadership/character but the kind of player he is) but we have no idea what his future holds either with the rumors swirling. I'm on edge with just about all of it

If Flory goes to Duke my soul will vomit til it dry heaves

Dook is after Flory?
