If not for Frank Mason. Were not even in this game
-
If you think these refs were bad, wait until you get a load of the ones for the Duke game…

Remember when this was an incredibly deep team last summer?
My how things change.
I mean to be fair, the refs aren’t going to call this many fouls once we get into the meat of the season. We can’t afford an injury but otherwise it’s okay. Honestly, Self needs a 4th big he can trust.
-
Thanks officials for ruining a game between two good basketball teams. They truly took this game out of the hands of the players and coaches with their inconsistent calls. I don’t even know if we would have won if the game had been called better, but it’s a shame that their ineptness caused this to happen.
-
I’ll say it again, why on earth the big guys can’t figure out blocking out I’ll never know. Indiana shot superbly tonight - we didn’t play bad defense, as most of their threes were contested. Lucas and Carlton HAVE to figure this out. Blocking out is a skill taught in middle school yet a lot of guys don’t do it. Post defense wasn’t good either. Probably going to be 0-2 to start the year.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Has been a defensive clusterf**k… None at all with 100pts vs a Self team. I am surprised.1st game of the year-not shocked but surprised. Not likely to happen again this season. This game means MUCH more in the loss column than it does in the W column.
-
I really think Svi kind of did not step up and take the shots he needed to at the end. He’s got to stay a threat all the time for this team. Frank was great, but Frank needed to get Svi into the game.
-
Does Puke keep a stat on Allen trips?
-
@JayHawkFanToo refs aren’t the issue. Ksuck excuse for losing. It’s far too tired
-
insert repeat that into every game
-
@JayHawkFanToo I guess some of us watched a different game than others.
-
very true, he showed up, everyone else played when they felt like it
-
Fb games lasting longer and now bb
-
Probably starting 0-2, but there are things to build upon from this game.
-
Oouch and now the long flight to the east coast.
I don’t won’t to be a downer, but if this our game plan to get by with only LUcas in the paint. Man this is going to be a long season.
-
We haven’t opened the season away from Allen Fieldhouse since 2001. That was also in Hawaii, and also a loss. To Ball frickin’ State.
That season we went undefeated in the Big 12 and went to the Final 4. So let’s not get too concerned just yet.
-
Lucas got a lot of credit for stabilizing our team last year…and stepped up his game after that whole mess of meetings between coach and ‘The Core’. But not seeing carryover and we don’t have the cohesiveness that thought we might see mixing experience and new talent.
Maybe IU with their offensive approach isn’t a bellweather for where we are against a more balanced approach team.
-
@Bwag Devonte was out of control and fell asleep on defense on a key possession that cost us three points. His focus was not what I expect from an upperclassmen. Svi played pretty well. Carlton was better offensively and showed a low post game but isnt blocking out. We need to run more pick and pops with him for shot opportunities.
-
@brooksmd WAAAAAAHHHHHHHH !!!
-
@DoubleDD giving up?
-
@cragarhawk I think some let it get to their head. Devonte has not looked focused even during the exhibitions
-
Why no. Just stating the obvious.
-
Tom Crean beat us excuse me while throw up. The good thing is its early. I was disappointed in the lack of effort on the glass, Self always says that’s how you tell if you played hard and outside of frank idk that we did. Well short turnaround boys lets hope we can beat duke but looking at our defense I’m fairly worried. 89 points let up wow
-
As I said before. Lucky it’s early. Very humbling. Now maybe we can get past the hype and get down to business
-
Well, maybe we won’t need to get any more recruits
-
@HawkChamp saw Svi step away from defensive action a couple times too.
-
well this team just missed shots period, so many missed bunnies, so many missed shots from guys that usually make them. some FT’s as well at critical times.
-
Blackmon and that freshman were the key for them otherwise the rest of their team played like our other 7 rotation players
-
15-32 threes for IU… tough to overcome that, and we almost did. Free throws kept us in the game.
-
@BeddieKU23 that and Indiana made a lot of tough threes. Very tough to stop those
-
Doke and Josh will get better, not sure about ll

IU seems insane offensively. Shooters at every position. Crean puts a premium on it when recruiting, and rightly so.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I wonder if us losing these early season games have hurt recruiting, we lose about every year in the champs classic its getting a little old.
-
@HawkChamp agree with that on Devonte. Thought he was actually more aggressive tonight though. Still room no question
-
Yeah, Devonte is going to have to get back up on that edge again.
But it will be harder, because they are scheming on him, now. Last year he was the third option behind Perry and Frank. Now he is second option, maybe even first if he gets untracked. It will take a few games for him to get used to the increased attention. But he should adjust, unless he too is playing with unreported injuries, which it sure looks like. But I’m withholding judgement since folks said he was just battling cramps.

Self would have rather had a win ofc but secretly he is a little happy.

Yep missed a lot at the rim. The curse continues.
-
It’s like the spread offense in College Football. This is the new College Basketball. Self playing 4 guards is at least aware but late to the party
-
@BShark agreed
-
@BeddieKU23 Ya to me it was disappointing to see their freshman make fts while our senior bricked 2 huge ones not to put it all on LL but that was really what gave them a lead in OT. Rebounding, Defense and shooting 3 areas that we do better in one we win this contest.
-
@kjayhawks well I don’t see Alabama going or Lsu or miss state or Washington… Etc
-
@DanR Good take. We beat them in every stat except 3 pointers (we were 7/21) and rebounds (-11).
-
yes those misses were disturbing as he didnt even come close on either attempt. froze under pressure
-
@BeddieKU23 but hit nearly 79% FT’s…not terrible.
Offensive boards and 3pt shooting for IU were our achilles heel.
-
So, I asked awhile back in the thread if anyone knew what became of @HighEliteMajor ?
It was OT, so maybe everyone was too busy.
Anyone have any idea what became of HEM?
-
@approxinfinity Yep I been saying rebounds all night, not much you can do but put a hand in a guys face I don’t think we gave them a ton of open looks
-
most of it from 1 player. FT shooting didn’t lose the game in my mind. Too many missed shots and IU made theirs
-
@BShark yeah, guess we see why.
Don’t know that that wins % wise as more balanced, but sure can make for some big wins in big games.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I agree I’m glad we play a tough schedule I believe it help break the horses just wish we won a few more lol
-
I can see why Coach wants to play the 4 and 1. Yet one problem they were still trying to pound the ball inside. Man I’m really confused and to tell you the truth a lot worried.
