Oklahoma vs Kansas Chat

Hield is the real deal.
-
Greatest college basketball game I have ever seen! The Syracuse-UConn Big East tournament 7OT game has been supplanted
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I’d take both our '88 and '08 Championship games over this…same sort of drama, even bigger stakes.
-
Game was never in doubt
-
@Bwag we’ve never been in a game like this i’ve watched…since 1971…
-
@DCHawker Love those steals that our guards produce.
-
@KUSTEVE 3 OT"s…that’s probably right! I’ve not been watching that long.
-
Damn, set the tivo to record an extra hour and it cutoff during the TO at 8 sec left in last OT.
-
@Bwag i’m older than dirt…lol.
-
@Bwag I was 2 for the 88 game and the 2008 game was great, but there was no drama in OT.
-
ok…how am i supposed to go to bed after that?..i’m still in shock…
-
@brooksmd Dang, mine turned off too…may catch a bit here at the end by recording sportscenter
-
Buddy’s interview on espn now. Hats off. Great player and class act. Lotsa respect for our team, building, and crowd
-
@KUSTEVE I’m not a spring chicken, but I didn’t start watching until college years
-
@KUSTEVE Take a couple of shots of something.
-
@cragarhawk Saw that too. Great kid. I take back my punchable face comment.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 not a bad idea…lol.
-
@Bwag i started watching ku when i was 11…1971…
-
@cragarhawk KU fans showing class by giving Buddy a hand after his interview on ESPN.
-
I haven’t seen a loss yet at afh!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 good job, crimson!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Glad you were there and didn’t storm the court!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 i have…on more than several occasions…

K-State fan after that game gets tazed… bro.
-
SVP giving KU lots of love
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I haven’t either! Keep it going
-
@KUSTEVE My only game at AFH we lost to ISU. Giddens couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn that game.
-
That game wore me out.
-
Now all we have to do is go to Norman and win again. POC, right?
-
Gotta worry about the tough road games ahead right now. No time to celebrate
-
@DoubleDD Funny thing i if the Ref with the boner doesn’t T Self instantly, this is just another case of KU doing what KU does. If the whistle is remotely fair in Norman, KU wins there too.
-
No Please let us celebrate. KU, Coach and fans deserve it.
-
I saw my share of losses in the Ted Owens era… but then saw my share of victories in the Brown and Williams eras… I have not seen a game in the Phog in the Self era, but I think the odds would have been in my favor!
That game when Peeler ripped off 43 I recall clearly. He was insane. But we won
This is my favorite game since the final KU v MU game.
-
ROCK F’NG CHALK. What a game. I don’ t even know what to say after that except Good Night All.
-
@brooksmd I saw them lose numerous games with Ted Owens. I watched misery clinch the Big 8 championship on our floor back in 1994??? I watched a valiant undermanned KU team that was 15-14 almost beat the 2nd ranked Mildcats at the Phog…I’ve also seen them kick ass as well…
-
@RockChalkinTexas I know what to say. Bartender, drinks on me!
-
-
They hit…16 3 pointers…and LOST…
-
@brooksmd Shot of Crown Royal for me please.
-
@DoubleDD no days off
-
@RockChalkinTexas breakfast of champions…
-
Self letting em loose! They gonna be at all the “good” spots tonight. Jayhawks PR team needs to be out in full force to prevent all the nefarious BS we’d expect after a game like this.
If I were in Lawrence, meet me at the freaking Replay for some cheap beer and head banging!
-
This was the most impressed I’ve been by an opponent since Durant.
Congratulations B. Hield! The dude totally earned my respect with a special performance in a game for the ages.
-
@RockChalkinTexas CR 75th on the rocks?
-
@brooksmd never had the fancy stuff. Plain ol Crown will do thank you very much.
-
It was my rally cap I put on at the start of 3rd OT that did the trick I’ll have you know.
-
I don’t do the game chat thing - I’m not coordinated enough to watch and type at the same time. But I just wanted to chime in and say this:
I’m kind of a KU fan. For about the last 52 years. I’ve taped (yes, taped) games for years, now I DVR them. I’ve listened to Max and Bob on the radio when I lived far, far away and there was no such thing as cable TV, ESPN, the Internet or any other form of media except to listen to the radio. I’ve watched us win two National Championships (on TV, I’m not rich) and I have NEVER been as emotional about a game as I was tonight. When the game was over I literally had tears streaming down my face. I don’t really even know why. But it was one hell of a game and I have incredible respect for Buddy Hield. The guy is phenomenal and he seems to be a humble, level-headed kid. Wish he was a Jayhawk.
-
@bskeet SVP interviewed him after our highlights and he was very classy and had a lot of respect for the fans and AFH. Stand up guy.
-
Interesting thinking about losses I’ve seen in AFH… With the help of Google I’ve seen 3. Long Beach State and Oklahoma in 1992-3. Temple in 1993-4

My post game thoughts:
Bill Self likes to play with matches, not match-ups, but fire.
He has a deep team, they have a shallow team: Bill shortens his bench and rides the horses he has out there till they nearly collapse and die
He plays a 2-ball game late against a 3 point shooting juggernaut. (maybe counting on their tired legs)
Last year the 3 ball is golden for us and we get “fools gold”. This year, two pg guard offense is tearing up the assist to TO ratio stats and he asks them to get a little wilder with the ball…and they do (at least for a half-ended up with 14 TO’s so we did tighten it back up later in the game)
Also, I’m not sure if our Assistant Coaches have any balls to stand up to Self and talk some sense to him, or…what?
So Bill is a gambling man, not necessarily do-anything-to-win, but gamble in the way that an older brother teases a little brother to the point of total rage…stiff arming him to keep the windmill punches from connecting, hoping that little brother doesn’t pick up something deadly and in rage, throw, shoot, or lauch a fatal missle at him.
Our offense got stale late and reverted to “I don’t know what to call it” but we kept hitting some shots, and also seeing for the most part our back to the basket game get stuffed back in our faces and our drive to the hole against a set defense as well. But the players hit enough shots to win, enough rebounds to win.
Definitely take the win, excited, but like a coach looks for coachable points after a win as well as a loss, I’m interested what Coach takes away from his performance in this game.
