Driving I-70 Eastbound to land of Ahhhh's
-
@brooksmd Hell, all I wanna do is take a friggin road trip-does this mean we have to stay home & vote now ?! Guess tounge in cheek don’t count anymore brooks. JK
-
@globaljaybird I was gonna try and explain my position, but the heck with it. I guess I just have a hard time taking whatever drivel spews forth from Al Gore’s pie hole seriously when he and his followers climb in private jets and fly all over the world to 5 star resorts selling carbon credits or whatever the heck they are. And then fly back in their private jets to their multi-million dollar mansions with a higher monthly electric bill than I pay in a year.
Now about that road trip. Let’s get us the biggest motorhome we can find and go. lol
-
@drgnslayr My fav bumper sticker is the one on the back of some ton dually that hails “Thanks for Savin’ Some Extra Gas For Me”…LOL
-
@hawkmoon2020 " Big Oil" has never put a gun to my head, or a boot to my throat. This last century is simply riddled with oppressive socialist governments killing millions of people. Remember, they’re " here to help". What could possibly go wrong?
-
@brooksmd Can’t argue that Gore is a bit of a hypocrite (as am I in some respects,) but what’s he to do? Walk his way to other parts of the world? LOL And I hope for his sake, his mansion has every alternative/renewable energy sources available. Imagine what airfares would be, in all due time time, once we harness solar and/or revolutionize electric energy like we currently are?
Love me some road trips! Best way to see the great U.S. of A, not to mention kindling our Jayhawk camaraderie!
-
@hawkmoon2020 Yeah I agree-believe it or not a wind turbine generator is a pretty simple piece of equip to build. A homeowner can do it. But you also better believe that the second you prop it up outside your neighbor will be calling DHE or the EPA & you’ll become either so taxed, spending lotsa $$$$ for permits & regulatory requirements, or spend countless hours & time wading through the buracracy that you’ll finally say F it, & keep makin that monthly donation to KCP&L Watch the old GC Scott & Brando flick “The Formula” & maybe you’ll get the drift…hell, WE ARE the ARABS !!
-
@brooksmd @Crimsonorblue22 When do we leave? Can I take Rascal?? We’re both housebroke???
-
@brooksmd personally I think it’s a great (sarcasm) move to replace old inefficient cheap ass incandescent light bulbs with 10 x the price fluorescents…what’s a little mercury in the Earth gonna hurt. I know of no trash service in the entire metro that will haul em to a landfill. Watch what happens if a thermometer gets broken in a public school these days for relevance- no JK
Yeah we can wish in one hand & KRAP in the other but the thing that fills the fastest is the pockets in DC & that ain’t ever gonna change-least not in our lifetimes. Lobbyist are here to stay & going nowhere. Soooooooo- Road Trip !!
-
@globaljaybird yes!!
-
KUBUCKETS PRODUCTIONS
in association with BIA/LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN LABORATORIES and RASCAL ENTERTAINMENT present the @VailHawk FILM…FOUR LANE BLACK TOP
-
@jaybate-1.0 Sometimes I just have to sit back & marvel at some of the abstract & relevant connections that your brain is capable of coming up with to chuck into the mix of a thread. Makes me realize that you’re just as FOS as the rest of us…but a helluva lot more subtle & clever. Now if I were quick enough to connect these kinda dots-I might have posted the Travis Tritt video starring Billy Bob in the “Modern Day Bonnie & Clyde”
Not quite the artistic standard of an MC Escher portrait but I still dig it . Sit back, relax, & enjoy the jam !!.
-
You write it, I’ll direct it. Count the responses in here as the marketing showing it will be a box office smash hit!
My gift (or problem) is that I see both sides to this fence. I tend to always focus on the negative aspects first.
NEGATIVES:
GLOBAL WARMING DOESN’T EXIST CROWD: I understand you don’t like most of the science community telling you it is true. But unless you are a conspiracy theorist, do the math, take a trip up north and see it for yourself. All the posted footage isn’t lying. Don’t say it isn’t so just because you don’t like the messengers.
GLOBAL WARMING DOES EXIST CROWD: Okay… you are the first to admit it. So why haven’t you gone off grid to help stop it? Why do you pollute and create CO2 every bit as much as the people who don’t believe in it? What is your realistic plan to slow it down?
I try to not be wasteful, partly because I’m cheap, partly because that was the way I was brought up from a man who grew up in a 600 sq ft carriage house with 21 other inhabitants. Yes… 22 people lived in that space. So… I’m not a big believer in excesses.
I currently raise about 50% of my family’s food on my city lot. It’s an over-sized lot, 1 1/2 times the size. Within a few more years I will have mature enough perimeter produce trees to knock that number up to about 70%. I will soon be polishing up my gun and fishing tackle trying to raise that number up to about 85%.
Yes… I can, dehydrate and pickle my produce, too. Few people on this planet eat the quality of food we eat. Certainly not millionaires eating out of fancy restaurants. Last year I went big into growing spicy chili peppers from Mexico. Think I had about 35 varieties. Had a couple books on making traditional moles. I still have a few gallons of my ferments in the refrigerator. You couldn’t pay a million dollars and get this anywhere. I took some to a friend of mine who owns a fancy restaurant and he begged for more.
I have the need for a 1/2 ton pickup, so I use more gas than I’d like to. Before that truck, I had a S10 mini pickup that did me about 25 mpg in town. I miss that truck!
We should all pull in our belts not just because of possible global warming. We should just do it because it is the right thing to do! I’m constantly walking behind my wife turning off lights and devices because I hate wasting energy.
I am very thankful my father was able to break out of poverty, but still teach me the same value for money he had growing up in a shed… with no bed and blankets scattered out on the floor where everyone slept at night. No inside toilet except a bucket in the winter.
There was a show on recently that we watched and it touched our attitudes… “Just Eat It!” It discussed how much food we waste in our society, and what the cost is for producing all the food we waste. It isn’t just energy. It is also water and other resources, like oxygen-creating trees, etc. It made me want to go dumpster diving, but my wife drew a line in the sand, so I’ll be staying out of dumpsters. Here is a link to the movie:
It comes down to principles. All of this stuff comes down to personal responsibilities and principles.
-
@drgnslayr “I’m constantly walking behind my wife turning off lights and devices because I hate wasting energy.”
Yeah.
I’m sure that’s the reason you’re constantly walking behind your wife…
-
-
Hahahaheeee… true… I don’t want to get run over! She’s like 7 inches shorter, and with a low center of gravity, she can undercut me at will!
-
@globaljaybird $1M a mile is what all highways cost back in Pennsylvania. I-376 from the city to Pgh Intl Airport was redone so many times that when Al McGuire was in town to call a college game, he said to an interviewer, “That road into the city from the airport–someone is stealing money from you people.” I laughed at that quote and never forgot it. Also, got a BB reference into the thread.
-
@globaljaybird
“Makes me realize that you’re just as FOS as the rest of us…but a helluva lot more subtle & clever.”
Reminds me of a comment I heard several decades ago:
“You are either FOS or your a big Azz Hole. One of the two. Think about it.”
I have to admit that comment stuck. It’s been a part of my humility ever since!
-
@EdwordL Colorado 550 runs N / S from Durango to old E / W 50 North of Ouray & Silverton. It was built during the Great Depression at that cost so goes the story. The old DRGW R R has a passenger train that runs from Durango to Siverton along the Animas River in the canyon below the hy. Far as I know that stretch of river is one of the few stretches of class 5 white water in the continental U S excluding Alaska. The train also books months in advance & the scenic day trip is spectacular. Also the hy 550 reaches several summit passes & valleys with small towns sprinkled throughout with hot springs / geysers everywhere. Much of the hy is built on the edge of cliffs & is definitely not a drive for the faint of heart. It is called one of the most dangerous drives in America. E / W US 50 was the f one of the first hy to cross the divide long before inrtstate 70 did. That road leads to The Black Canyon of the Gunnison & leads over Monarch Pass abt Salida. The Arkansas River flows down the East side of he divide through the Royal George. Some of the most splendid landscape I’ve eve exp- trout fishing, horse packing, just outrageously wonderful country IMO.
-
@drgnslayr reminds me of a passage from the Good Book I read many yrs back…
“In haste do not be haughty or proud of humility.”
-
@globaljaybird Reminds me of home. Born in Pueblo, CO. (Highway 50), and went to College in Ft. Collins, CO. The Royal Gorge (not George) is 50 miles from where I lived for 25 years.
Oh YES, … Memories !!!
-
@RedRooster My typing is awful.
-
@globaljaybird “Royal George” is perfectly legit.
He used to play third base for KC.
-
@hawkmoon2020 Ditch the private jets and fly scheduled, commercial flights. If you’re gonna preach to the choir you best be one with the choir.
-
@nuleafjhawk +1000 !! Id give ya more than one upvote if I could…
-
@brooksmd He’s one in particular I have a diff time believing since he was caught red handed jettin’ around with a GF & illegitimate child while his wife suffered & died a horrible death to cancer. Guess havin his own fun was higher on the priority list huh? IMO. but what a pr**k. No wait, that’s a man’s anatomy he need not apply…
-
@RedRooster You lucky dog…Once n the late 80’s my boys & I had breakfast early one summer morning while trout fishing on the South Branch of the North Fork of the Ark River…then in the late 9o’s we rafted the Cache le Poudre at Ft Collins. Several times in the early 70’s I tent camped solo on the Big Thompson-just a few years before the deadly floods. Had a chance to work for the Union Pacific out of Green River abt that timeframe but guess it wasn’t meant to be. I’m jealous of most anyone that got to grow up in he Rockies. I also admire those people who’ve grown up in the harsh winter environments & challenges of that life. IMO but many just seem to be much more practical in their personalities.
-
Back to the original topic. @VailHawk how’s the trip proceeding?

-
@globaljaybird Just need one now with his head out the window, jowls flopping the the breeze and ears pinned back. Great character image.
-
@globaljaybird You seem to be confusing Al Gore with John Edwards. Hopefully for the world your position on climate change is more correct than your knowledge about former politicians. I doubt it however.
-
@sfbahawk My opinion on whatever you make reference to has not been divulged nor will it be, but thx anyway for the assist heir hawkmiester- Hard to tell sometimes, them democrats all look alike to me. Big Al was the one that cast the deciding vote on the fate of SS when he was ridin shotgun for Bill… Now if ya’d kindly grab me another cognac I can get back to more important business like world peace…Yada yada
-
I have to admit that this is probably the most civil discussion on politics I have ever experienced!
-
@globaljaybird What does “heir hawkmiester” mean? Since you responded to my post you must think that I am someone’s “heir”. Who might that be? Did you mean “herr” since “hawkmiester” has a german ring to it? Or do all of the words in the English language look the same to you?
-
@sfbahawk If ya cant take a joke then you & the moondog can both just butt out. This thread began as a discussion among friends about a dog, not Effin politics. And that’s about as nice as I can say it.
-
Ok gentlemen and if any ladies, hopefully I can bring this heated debate to a close before we get the hammer and lock.
Is global warming real? or is climate change real? The answer is yes and no. However none of this is really that important.
Wait before you respond. Finishing reading.
First the earth is going to be just fine. Well unless scientist figure out how to blow this planet in a lot of little rocks. It’s life of humanity and the wild kingdom that must be saved. The point take away humans and the earth and nature will fix what was broken. It’s just a fact. One that has been proven.
A lot of the evidence that was presented to prove the notion that Global warming or climate change is real has been proved to be falsified. That my friends is just a fact. No matter what side of the aisle you lean. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be respectful of the place we live.
The Heavens will rain, the sun will burn, and the seasons will change. Yet after all the politicians, governments, scientist, and investors get their money grab the sun will come out and a new day will begin.
I say this to you my friends, when someone comes preaching the End of the world more times than not it’s a money grab. The earth was here long before mankind and will be here long after we kill each other.
In conclusion I am a believer in climate change but not the mankind way. The earth is always changing, and that won’t stop. I see nothing wrong with someone taking the means they have to live a simple none polluting life style.
If anything these will be the same people that will save humanity. When the knowledge of how to live without technology as been forgotten.
I hope my words will bring this subject to a close. As it is my desire that KUBuckets becomes the major nest of all KU fans. I would hate to lose posters and topic makers over a subject that has nothing to do with our beloved Jayhawks.
-
@DoubleDD Great idea DD just start another thread about global warming or affirmative action or world peace or marijuana use or opium or any other thing political you wish. Then see how many DON’T participate in the drivel that ensues, as @brooksmd so aptly referred to it. Many of us damn sure won’t publically speak of issues best left to chat or IMs’, or that nature of personal opinions. Agreed they are best left off of this site. And those type folks who wish to inject sarcastic or frivolous insulting snippets or outright patronize others comments, surely have plenty of “other” message boards to accomplish their goals so they can feel better about themselves. Kinda ike marriage DD, do you want to be right & divorced, or do you want to be happy ?
-
All I know is that I’m freezing today!!! Peace out!️
-
@globaljaybird
Let it go, no really let it go.
-
@DoubleDD never was here…
-
@globaljaybird That dog is alert and enjoying the scenery!
-
@globaljaybird: I did not realize when that hwy had been built at that cost. We spent a week in Durango some years back, and we did ride the passenger train at Silverton, although we booked at the beginning of our week there. It was early May, and, driving to Durango, my wife and I stared at each other when we saw a sign up in the mountains that said “Wolf Creek Pass is open today.” We saw sun, rain, sleet, and snow on our way through that pass. I especially liked The Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
-
@globaljaybird
“Kinda ike marriage DD, do you want to be right & divorced, or do you want to be happy ?”
Everyone knows where I sit on this fence… Keep the marriage!
Seriously… injecting politics in this site just helps create separation between us all, when a big part of the purpose of this site is to help bring us together as Jayhawk fans!
I respect everyone’s opinion in here. I don’t agree with everyone’s opinion. And I don’t feel the need to try to force my politics on anyone else, especially in here.
I think there is one thing ALL of us can agree on…
GLOBAL WARMING WILL DEFINITELY EXIST SOON IN AFH! I PREDICT A HUGE HEATWAVE STARTING IN NOVEMBER!
-
@JayhawkRock78 I don’t know about how much fun global is, but we need to hang out w/rascal!
-
The Global warming has not been a scientific issue for a while now (at least for unbiased scientists) since most of the methodology used to produce the original “hockey stick” curve has been fully discredited. The main author of the original paper/curve, Michael Mann, has claimed the methodology used to develop the curve is “intellectual property” and refuses to disclose the detail, something that is unheard and unacceptable in scientific circles.
We are just beginning to understand solar flares and solar storms and their occurrence seems to closely correspond to cyclic warming; a lot better than man made CO2, the current favorite of the “man is the cause of global warming” crowd.
Global warming is purely a political issue that many politicians, such as Al Gore, have used to try to stay relevant and more importantly, to make a lot of money. As an Engineer/Scientist, I deal with a number of other scientists, many in agencies that deal directly with the issue, such as NASA, for whom I have done work in the space shuttle program since the late 80’s, I can tell you that at least 95% of them feel the same way I do. Global warming has been happening cyclically through hundreds of thousand of years and I have an objection that the current period of warming is the result of human action alone. Humans contribute minimally and have zero control over global warming
Read this linked article that outlines the entire process and draw your own conclusions. I don’t want to get in an argument over this issue since, IMHO, it is political issue and this is not the forum for it. I don’t claim my opinion is correct, since no one really knows the answer with full certainty, the comments above are my opinion based on my own experience and interaction with other, much more knowledgeable scientists. Like I said, do your own research and draw your own conclusions.
-
@VailHawk was wondering if you were still in ks? In medicine lodge we just felt an earthquake, a first for me!! I guess it was a 3.3 and epicenter is located 15 miles from here. Crazy!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Oh hell now we’ll have anti frackers whining !!!
-
@globaljaybird rain up there yet? Bet it’s a no go tonight.
-
@JayHawkFanToo And can I get a thank you from the Amen corner…Paul Harvey himself could not have declared this any more decidedly.
-
@JayHawkFanToo - Game. Set. Match. Great post.
-
@HighEliteMajor agreed! @JayHawkFanToo well stated.
@brooksmd & @Crimsonorblue22 sorry I’ve been totally slammed. Picked up puppy Saturday around 10:00 and she’s captured our hearts already!!! Daughter named her Lily w/in five minutes, I’ve nicknamed her Lilyhammer.
