Breaking News

  • So many good coaches in the B12 that every little fissure in a team is being exposed and exploited.

They all know each other’s weaknesses and are trying to place their swords directly in the chink in the armor.

  • @truehawk93 Damn it…WTH is going on now? Who in the hell allowed this to happen? This is all we need and hope it’s a simple infraction. Why do I see sneering and tongue in cheek looks from other programs? How in the hell do we recruit and sign a top pick, only to be screwed this late in the season? This smells of conspiracy, plain and simple. Also, you never hear of them sniffing around uk or many other programs lately. Ironically, KU has one of if not the best team GPAs. So what eligibility is in question?

Agreed. Feels like a hit is being carried out by a corrupt organization.

  • Right before the Texa$ game. The same Texa$ that is big $$$$ for the N¢AA. Con$pira¢¥? Ya think???

  • @cragarhawk I would agree with Ellis as one of the four outs. Lucas or Michelson in, I guess.

  • @KUSTEVE On the other hand, maybe…just maybe…the good 'ol NCAA is doing us a solid now, so we don’t end up having a Memphis experience. I don’t think it’s anything like Memphis and Rose. That was the dumbest thing a player/coach could ever do/allow.

Interestingly enough, to this day, Calipari still claims NOTHING. I love it. BTW, he says there’s no way to monitor what his players or recruits do. Hello, I’m no million dollar coach, but if I have a top recruit, my butt as head coach will be all over him to guarantee he’s above the eligibility requirements. Derrick Rose should’ve never played in college at all. Calipari smiles and crawls on his belly like a snake. He crawls through a pile of crap and comes out smelling like a rose…I love D1 college coaching, it’s the American way.

  • @truehawk93 Soooo, the NCAA is somehow…helping us?

  • @KUSTEVE never know what events are going to transpire to get you where youre going. Perhaps the combo of Lucas Michelson becomes serviceable enough over the next 6 games to take us deep in the dance. Thatll be my hope

  • @KUSTEVE Who knows what they’re doing. That’s my point. They definitely seem to have an agenda. They dictate and manipulate everything. Oh, don’t forget that UK has a former athletic staff member on the NCAA investigative board too. It just gets better and better.

  • WTH. is happening is right. The timing???
    This stinks.

Just watched the refs give OU every call they needed down the stretch. This stinks too.

  • Often these things have to do with benefits…but we don’t know what it is. Hard to speculate. It could be very minor or nothing at all. We’ll just have to wait.

  • For those wondering if Cliff would declare after this season, ready or not. This is your answer.

  • @cragarhawk I’ll take my chances with Lucas. Mickelson has been sitting too much and the pace of these games, this late, are too much. If I play Mickelson, and it wouldn’t hurt, Self needs to slowly work him into the lineup. Maybe he and Lucas can split 20 mins a piece. I’d just go with whoever seems in rhythm.

  • Who knows?

The problem I see is that the NCAA can do this with impunity.

They approved Cliff. Once the NCAA makes most decisions, the decision is final. Why is this one different?

Bringing something forward in the middle of the season means that they can manipulate the game of which they are supposed to protect the integrity.

KU has no choice. NCAA plants the seed of doubt and if KU decides to ignore it, they can take everything away. If KU complies, NCAA might come back and say “never mind” or might not.

  • @bskeet Who was it that had a similar player issue and they recently cleared? I think Arthur comes to mind and all his Science class mess. He was freakin’ cleared by the house and then they found that something wasn’t right. They then said, “Oops, sorry, our bad…he’s good, congratulations!”

  • @truehawk93 Who knows what they’re doing. That’s my point. They definitely seem to have an agenda. They dictate and manipulate everything. Oh, don’t forget that UK has a former athletic staff member on the NCAA investigative board too. It just gets better and better.

True That. So let’s reset: a really pissed off Hunter Michelson, angered about being buried on the bench all year, puts on a scoring/blocking show, making key buckets, blocking a slew of shots, and making key passes to our 3point eagle eyes beyond the perimeter , who bury the trey… After the game, Coach self tells the NCAA to kiss his ass. OK, I feel better now.

  • @KUSTEVE The Crimson and Red-headed B12 menace, I like it. Unleash the Red Fury.

  • Nine fouls and six points for Cliff the past four games. I don’t think we’re going to miss him a whole lot today.

  • @truehawk93 THE RED FURY…that’s beautiful…like a work of art…

  • @KUSTEVE said:

UK has a former athletic staff member on the NCAA investigative board

    Fox in the henhouse.

Bad practice. Even if the guy is stellar, the optics are bad.

  • starting traylor… this isnt good

  • Even if everything is ok. Who needs this distraction?

  • @bskeet Well, it could be that the UK guy knows how cheating could (hypothetically ) be done

  • @BeddieKU23 Do not fear -the RED FURY makes his debut today. today, we are all Hunter…

  • @JayhawkRock78 This is too painful of the TRob grief and the game we lost to UT then. This is not the same at all, but interesting that we play UT when something hits us, strange. That was a home game too.

The guys need to be ready to play. Forget the mess and go out with something to prove. They have enough to play for at this point.

  • Texas played zone … Cliff is out. Will our perimeter game shine?

NCAA issues aren’t in a one game vacuum, as we all know. If Cliff has eligibility issues, the reality is that our wins this season are threatened.

When I heard this, I worried about that stones and glass houses thing.

  • @KUSTEVE The Big Red Hunter is on the hunt.

  • @KUSTEVE

i dont know how you can feel confident Hunter will do anything when he’s played 71 minutes total this year. We will need him for fouls but otherwise I don’t expect anything positive from that

  • @DoubleDD Uhhh yah, WTF? How come this wasnt addressed at the start of the season? Didnt they clear him then? Why renege on it now!?? Or could it be just as simple as a conspiracy. The NCAA just doesnt want KU to win the conference 11 times.

  • @Lulufulu Well, let’s give him his chance. He may turn out a bit like Aldrich. How many of us took a deep breath when Aldrich came in to play? Against N Carolina? Deep in the tourney? Final 4? I did and until he battled PsychoT, the rest is history.

    Whatever happens, it’ll be ok.

  • @BeddieKU23 What? You want me to be reasonable or something? I’m not on a fact finding mission - I’m on a faith-finding mission, and the best I can come up with is the BIG RED FURY…

  • @truehawk93 I wasnt implying that Cliff did anything wrong. I have no idea.

  • @Lulufulu No, no, I’m referring to the Mickelson possibility. I’m moving on from the Alex thing at this point. It does us no good to dwell on the unknown.

  • @BeddieKU23 Don’t “expect” … you are correct. “Hope”? That’s another thing. I hope every game that we can play well the way Self wants, and can be effective inside. Alternatively, I hope Self unleashes our perimeter game. But I had hoped Santa would have brought me a pony, too. My “hope” record isn’t too good this year.

  • Why do people want ponies for Christmas. Seems like they’d be a hassle.

  • @HighEliteMajor

my hope record is pretty poor as well. We just have to hope that either Lucas or Traylor can make a few shots and not turn the ball over… That’s the reality of this situation now. I don’t see Self magically playing his small ball lineup because the reality of that is he never really surprises you.

  • @truehawk93

“Now my question is…eligibility prior to signing during all that mess at his high school? Can’t be, he was cleared by the NCAA. This has got to be since he’s been attending classes at KU.”

I am of the opinion that Kansas has a legal department on staff for many years now to deal with the NCAA and the crap they pull. That has been the case ever since Brown loaned Askew travel money to get home and visit his sick grandmother and the NCAA considered giving us the death penalty. Literally said we were “riding the fence.”

I expect this to be something since he came to Kansas.

It is starting to seem like Cliff wasn’t cut out for college or college basketball.

  • Banned

    @Lulufulu

I would guess new info was uncovered or somebody revealed something to the NCAA. It’s hard telling. Thing is nobody seems to be talking. So at this point it’s all speculation. My guess it’s about his high school courses, as KU as a university wasn’t mentioned. It’s my understanding they could actually still play Cliff but they aren’t taking any chances. So Cliff sits.

  • @drgnslayr Maybe he talked to an agent.

  • @KUSTEVE

I’m going to guess he committed a no-no with his academics. Athletes have a lot of leeway for a year… so it would have to be something boneheaded.

  • Banned

    @KUSTEVE

    Actually you may be right.

  • @KUSTEVE

I don’t know… as I read more, it sounds like he may have done something else boneheaded. May not be related to academics.

Perhaps one of those things where a second cousin was approached by a handler… therefore… Kansas should be punished,

  • @drgnslayr I hate to say, but Alex isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. They really need to get him a tutor. I actually met a lady that attended KU back during Wilt’s time at KU and she tutored him. I know they have tutors, but let’s face it, some need them more than others.

I love Alex and mean no hurt at all. But if you need classroom help, get it.

  • @truehawk93

True… but Kansas does a pretty good job keeping their guys focused on academics. They all have ready access to tutors and I believe they are monitored by the AD. I believe if he had an academic issue KANSAS would be far ahead of the NCAA on something like this. In our current case it was the NCAA that notified Kansas. That doesn’t sound like academics.

It sounds more like a family member might have received some benefits, or something of this nature.

  • @drgnslayr I know, but this is Alex. He just needs more help than the average athlete. This is not a bad thing either. His entire high school had a huge academic problem. I didn’t think he’d get away without something catching him.

  • @truehawk93

Or perhaps something was uncovered from his HS that now puts his eligibility at risk. It could easily be this.

Here is an idea of connecting the dots:

Alexander Out vs Texas due to “Eligibility Issue”

  • Two or three days back I said IMO Cliff ain’t the sharpest tool in the barn. Musta been right.

  • @DoubleDD a little late but some thoughts on the Cliff situation. I have been reading some of the NBA draft boards just lately and with Kelly and Cliff being projected as top 20 picks I wonder if there isn’t an agent involved somewhere. It would only take an answered call or some loose conversation by maybe a family member for it to blow up. Or maybe it’s just some inappropriate benefit, who knows. Just my two cents worth for what it’s worth. RCJH

  • Hoping for the best, scared it will be worse.

Thought this SI article offered insight, but also created more questions.

    SI Article

    http://www.si.com/college-basketball/2015/03/01/cliff-alexander-kansas-attoryney-ncaa-eligibility-issue

Interesting that Self first heard about it at noon Saturday, but Alexanders had time to retain counsel on Saturday too.

Scariest part of the article was the attorney’s comment to SI…all McAfee could say is that both sides will work to minimize any damage done to Alexander or the Jayhawks, if that is indeed possible…"

    Guess we’ll see!
