possible future hawks

well hey guys, Bragg good catch, for what its worth 247 sports in their latest crystal ball predictions they had KU leading for Malik Newman and Brandon Ingram, when we were on the verge of sealing the deal on Bragg 247 sports had an article saying this very well could be the beginning of a huge haul for KU saying we could possibly challenge for the top recruiting class or 2nd best personally in my gut, there is that in my gut feeling again I don’t feel it, I don’t feel Malik coming would be great but just not seeing it I think he is a done deal with Kentucky I feel quite a bit better about Brandon but even that’s not a sure thing I know everyone is wanting that BIG man but I think we lose out on Zimmerman I think he is sticking close in the end run to UNLV but who am I, I’m just a beat up ol 60 yr old life long Jayhawk fan that doesn’t knw squat we shall see I guess and hope for the best

The situation with Newman won’t be settled for a while. Everyone thinks he ends up at Kentucky but the fact is nobody knows what their roster will look like. They have signed Briscoe 5star, and Matthews 4star guards. The twins aren’t on any first round or even top 10 at their position. Why would they leave for non-guarenteed deals. Booker and Ulis are on the NBA radar but its not like they are projected lottery or anything. Kentucky could have a very crowded situation.
To me KU has a much better shot than UK does at this point. I also think that he will go where the playing time is so unless Selden suddenly gets 100% better its not likely his spot will be open. The kid is a scoring machine and the other schools he likes are probably likelier to get him than crowded back-courts.
I like our chances with Jaylen Brown more. I think he will see how much better Kelly is playing now and want to become the latest 1 and done wing to hit KU.
Ingram to me still doesn’t leave the state of North Carolina. He wants to go to UNC, he could go to Duke with Winslow a top 10 pick. Maybe I’m wrong and underestimating this package deal but we’ve seen them fall apart before.

The platoon is going away at UK as the games get tougher. 8 players used up 224 out 225 minutes of the Ole Miss OT game. I wonder how the players that are suddenly not playing feel about it; I bet there is a lot of unhappy big egos. With lack of playing time and no exposure combined with the new recruits, I see several transfers in the off-season, which might be the beginning of the end of the UK experiment. As usual. the squid will stay one step ahead of the law and bolt for the NBA.
-
Only Marcus Lee has fallen out of the UK rotation. With Poythress hurt, the UK rotation has tightened to 9 anyway. And Lee could easily be back in the rotation very quickly if someone turns an ankle.
-
Against Louisville they basically played 7 players with Johnson and Lee playing 10 minutes a piece. Just sayin’
-
Yeah, not to defend Cal or anything but the platoon system did only work when you have 10 high level players at the appropriate positions. Without Poythress the whole thing kind of falls apart. So yes, he is abandoning the platoon somewhat but what choice does he have without a complete team on the bench to replace in a full line shift. I haven’t watched any Kentucky games to really know anything but that is how I understood the system. Not to different from how I play my 2k college hoops games on my original X-box. Maybe I came up with the platoon!
-
Poythress was not a starter last year and would not be one this year either. He came highly ranked out of high school, like Perry, but also like Perry, he is the stereotype tweener and not in the NBA radar and so he is a junior at OAD UK.

I see Selden’s spot as potentially open because if Selden doesn’t get 100% better then he risks getting passed up by an elite shooting guard if one was brought in. I wouldn’t consider him a major hurdle if I was an elite shooter looking for a college team. Obviously Self is a bit hesitant to just shove a frosh out there and let him take his lumps so it might take a while but if Newman ends up being an elite sniper then Selden may find himself being the experienced leader off the bench a la UK’s Darius Miller in '12. Who knows…
-
I agree. There is always the risk that you will be recruited over at an elite school like KU. KU could potentially bring in freshmen that, because they have NBA talent, are better than any of the returning players. We are seeing that this year with Oubre’s emergence and could also see Alexander do that this year. If Cliff stays next year, there’s a possibility that either Cliff or Perry could be pushed to the bench in favor of a new player, depending on how talented that guy is.
Selden is in the same boat. If he does not step up, there’s no guarantee that he won’t get passed up by a newcomer, or by someone like Brannen Greene if he improves defensively.

And I can 100% guarantee that if Newman or Brown were to commit that Selden would be spending his offseason putting up a ton of shots every day. He is a gamer and doesn’t strike me as a guy that would shrink from the competition for minutes. It would be a win-win for KU.

Awesome get in Carlton Bragg! He will be great for us!

I do too, but you know how Self is with players that he trusts. He would be a JR and you can bet money that he would work on his game again to try and become the man on this team. I thought this year he would make the jump but at some point all his talent has to come together doesn’t it?
I’d take Newman in a heart beat, he’s a potential 18 pt a game scorer he’s simply that dominate at making baskets. I do think it takes Selden leaving for him to come here because he’s going to want a spot open for him to showcase his talent. I don’t see him as a player who wants to compete for PT. I could be wrong that’s the mentality I’ve seen watching some of his games.
-
I never heard John Wooden say, “Nope, I wouldn’t want that much talent.” He had at least two teams with Walton and Sven Nater in which the second string was literally the second best team in the country behind the UCLAN starting five.
I have never heard Cal say, “Nope, I wouldn’t want another OAD.” He has 10 OAD/TADs and he never stops recruiting that I can see.
I have never heard Coach K say, “Nope, I have 9 OAD/TADs, I don’t want any more.”
Coaches will sign up to 13 OAD/TADs.
Coaches will accept walk-on OAD/TADs on top of the 13 scholarship OAD/TADs.
Demand for OAD/TAD talent is as inelastic as OPM is for an investment banker.

Thon Maker (#1 in class is 2016) is considering classifying to the class of 2015. Last I checked the crystal ball on 247sports says Ku is the odds on favorite to land him.

@approxinfinity Thon and Carlton Bragg. I’m in.
-
heyTheDrunkenJhawk, that’s exactly what I’ve heard also they are still discussing about him re-classifying but I do believein the end run he will re-classify and I like our chances

The “Ton and Thon” show…I like it!
