Lance Leipold

  • If our close games resulted in the occasional win you would be right. But losing every single time is unacceptable beyond words

  • Give me moments like OU 2 years ago vs nobody in the stands past half.

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Lance Leipold:

That’s honestly one of the most insane things I’ve ever read.

Did you stop reading the news for the past 10 years? Firing Lance is a horrible idea but I can easily find dozens that are exponentially more insane!

Heh, it’s been tempting. But just a little beer influenced hyperbole on my part

  • @FarmerJayhawk That’s why I am in favor of allowing him to prove he can win a close game this season. If he can do so, maybe there is a chance we can get back to getting meaningful wins and good seasons. But if not, we can conclude that the golden years of the Leipold era are in the rear-view and that we will never win a game against an opponent that is not overmatched by us (WVU, Fresno State etc) until we have a new coach.

  • The buyout is over $20m. He’s not getting fired.

  • Then we are most likely doomed to several years of 4-8 records (composed of 4 blowout wins, 2 blowout losses, and 6 4th quarter choke job losses) until Lance retires.

  • lol

  • I agree that this could be chalked up as the worst loss in the Leipold era. Cincinnati is likely a 6th-8th place team in this conference. Prob just eliminated ourselves from the title. Lance has to get better at clock management not running the ball before trying the touchdown pass would’ve helped but DK McDonalds seat should be on fire right now. That’s right up there with Turner Gills defense.

  • The problem with the defense is not that they are incapable, its that they have absolutely no toughness. In any given crucial 4th down its a guaranteed conversion. That is on Lance more than on DK.

  • @Jhawk69 guy made a hellacious catch on that 4th down. We had a pick with a bow on it and dropped it. Defensively the scheme is fine we just drop picks and miss tackles. Some of that goes on the coach for sure. This is the type of loss derails a season.

  • I will save you guys the trouble of watching the rest of the season. Here is what will happen. We will beat UCF. We will then get blown out by Texas Tech. We will outplay and outgain K-State but find a way to lose in the 4th quarter. We will blow out Oklahoma State. We will lose a close game against Arizona. Then we will lose another close game against Iowa State. Then we will lose to Utah. Our final record will be 5-7.

  • There’s some flaw in this rebuild. Not sure how to pinpoint it. Losing Andy K, the brilliant offensive coordinator may have been the worst thing to happen to this team, but goodness, the mental errors are egregious.

I didn’t get to watch today, but listened til middle of 3rd then followed on game day as we’re travelling and I was hiking, so not sure the mental errors, but a 2nd straight game with a defensive guy lost to a dirty hit is inexcusable. Jalen fumbling on the 1 is beyond inexcusable especially as he’s been prone to fumbles still after ten years running the team.

A defense getting gashed has been the most frustrating part. Missouri destroyed us all day long. Cincy destroyed us almost all day. WVU is bad so I don’t count last week.

A lack of a under two minute minutes offense has to be fixed. I know we scored just under two, but I’ve seen teams get the ball with 30 seconds on the clock get into FG range and we did zero with our last possession.

I’m not ‘fire Lance’ or anything like that. He’s made people pay attention to KU football. But he’s gonna lose a lot of support should these kind of games keep happening. As some have pointed out losing 63-10 is far worse.

  • The only reason anyone is mad is because expectations have changed. KU has a conference win already - many years they didn’t get one. It’s not a bad start…for KU football. This isn’t a Saban led Alabama team here.

  • Vs. Nebraska Cincy gained 271 yards Vs. Bowling Green 439 yards 600 vs NW state in a 70-0 rout. Against us? 603 yards.

Cincy is no high powered offense. But against us? They’re worn out from so much running.

  • @dylans No, people are mad because we are 2-16 in one score games during the Leipold era, which is unacceptable regardless of expectations.

  • What ticks me off today is that there’s no one to blame. Can’t blame Daniels, can’t blame the running backs or receivers, Can’t blame the refs. Maybe could blame the sucky defense. Mostly though, it’s just a crappy team.

  • @wissox the offense is fine IMO we are averaging over 35 PPG. JD was lights out today outside of a few plays, the fumble was super frustrating because as I said we had 3 plays to get 1 yard if he just goes down. Shades of Manhattan last season when we have a 3rd and 4 if he just goes down. I’ll give him props tho he hasn’t tried to win the game in one play a lot this year but the @ Mizzou was also a huge play that he should’ve thrown the ball at the RBs feet to live to play another down. I can live with with his 4 turnovers in 5 games (had 13 TOs in first 5 last season). I told my son while we were watching the second half, whichever team gets a turnover is going to win. They did and it was a big factor but I can’t blame today on a unit that had 597 yards and scored 34 points. The defense had to have 25 missed tackles that lead to first downs and touchdowns. They dropped a few picks that would’ve turned the tide. I’m fine with a bend defense that stiffens up in the red zone and gets turnovers. This ain’t that and DK should be getting heat right now.

  • We scored twice on the very first play of scrimmage. I guess we should stay on the field longer to wear out their D? Control the clock?

  • I loved the play calling, fumble killed us! Opposing coaches always praise what lance has done for our program. I do to0. The crowd is great, the Booth is awesome! It’s progress. I won’t quit on them.

  • I’m not ready to fire Lance, but that’s not a good loss. He needs to get players motivated to make a stop or play or two.

Speaking of the crowd…every time the cameras panned to the new stadium seats, they were half empty! What gives?

  • When another team has to execute an 80 yard drive in 1:45 with only one TO, the defensive backs have to deny the sideline. Short chunky plays over the middle are the cost but letting them stop the clock every play is nuts. Also, anyone else see the huge gap in our defensive line on the last TD trying to defend what will obviously be a running play from the 2??? I pointed it out to my ever suffering wife, and boom! TD through the center.

Again, this is KU football. Your expectations of winning more than zero games are completely unreasonable. Any money spent on football is a wasted opportunity for basketball; a real program with the possibility of post season success, with a coach who has won multiple national championships for KU.

    • tldr KU football is a total waste of time and money.

  • @dylans lol you are such a trolling hyperbolist rn. Cant you see these people are SUFFERING?

  • @approxinfinity I think @dylans last post was 100% spot on accurate. I wish I had thought of it.

We averaged 10.9 yards for play offense isn’t the issue, the university announced a sellout but it looked half full at best on TV.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 The fumble was LL’s fault. Had one goal line fumble happened, okay, maybe its bad luck. But the fact that we fumbled a bad snap, then got lucky that a penalty nullified the play, and then proceeded to fumble again is proof that our team was bound and determined to turn the ball over. A team-wide determination to lose is on the coach.

  • @Jhawk69 Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

  • I agree one of the most alarming stats of the Leipold era is this 3-14 in one possession games as Kansas head coach. He currently sits at 25-30 overall. If he’s close to 50% in those games he has a winning record and we were bowling 3 straight years prob make the B12 title game.

  • Can we call a shaman to wave the sweet wheat and exorcise the Curse of the Mangino?

  • @approxinfinity I want them to win too, my expectations however are different.

A good football program raises the tide for the entire university. It would be nice…

  • @Jhawk69 WOW what a crazy statement Lmao ya I 'm sure that’s part Coach L’s pre game talk telling them to remember be determined dt’s make sure we turn the ball over. The only question how the hell he gets that part of his speech in and still have time to tell them the defense has to remember to help the opposition make holes big enough you can drive a Mack truck through without even getting touched

It has given even average football and record enrollment in a demographically stagnant state.

  • The offense has been very good. Is the defense where we want it? Of course not. Let’s beat a bad UCF team and see where we are going into Lubbock. Most Big 12 teams are pretty mediocre so let’s see what happens.
