@Bosthawk Most likely about Dajuan’s brother.
-
Hunter Dickinson Highlights vs. Arizona (33 Pts, 10 Rebs)
-
@Bosthawk Juan’s little brother was murdered by a supposed friend in his own home back in 2019. Was a big story in the 2022 FF run. Juan’s father whom was a notorious gangster died a few years earlier. Juan was very lucky and credits the Braun family for helping turn his life around. I was lucky enough to meet CBs mom at a game in 2021 and she is a fiery woman that would put most people in their place. As much as I dislike Juan’s game at times, it would be impossible to not root for him. A lot like Jamari Traylors story, Kansas basketball may have saved both of their lives.
-
Anyone else laugh at ESPN having us at an 8 coming into today? I don’t think I’ve seen a rating system with us worse than the mid 20s. I’d think we are a 6 seed at the moment
-
@kjayhawks I don’t think I’d say Juan was lucky. His lil bro was murdered during his first yr here. Coach ask CB’s mom to go help the family out. Pretty sure that was way after 2017. I also remember you talking crap on him more than rooting for him.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 thoughtful counterpoint here about calling Juan lucky.
You might be right about kjayhawks being down on Juan but gotta give people a chance to change imo.
-
@kjayhawks Could be a 7 but beating Arizona will help.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I’d say he was lucky because people helped him leave that lifestyle and the road he was likely headed down. Many times I have criticized Juan’s play and admitted that his game is a style I’m not necessarily a fan of(dozens on here have aswell). That doesn’t mean I have any ill will towards him on a personal level. He’s a Jayhawk so I wish him well regardless tho I am ready for the changing of the guard at the PG spot. You can criticize the player while still hoping for the best, coaches do it daily. Edit: his brother was killed in 2019, his dad passed in 2017.

I like the big 12 tourney draw. Finals run feels doable
-
I watched the last 6:54 of the game and didn’t post even ONE snide/snarky remark.
Anything is possible

I think there could be a fair amount of variability in our seeding depending on how we do in the B12. We are only 5-10 against Q1 and 11-11 against Q1-2. That’s more like a 10-11 seed profile. What has us around a 7 seed right now is overall strength of schedule and wins against Duke, MSU, ISU and Arizona. I don’t think any other projected seed lower than a 4 has 2 wins against 1 or 2 seeds.
A loss in the 1st round would add a Q2 loss and a losing records against the first two quadrants, probably resulting in a 8 or 9 seed. 3 wins, if the third was against TTU might get us to a 6 seed. That would keep us on the 2 seed side of a bracket and avoid playing the 2 seed in the first two games…

Bill taking it seriously would feel like a first. If ever there was a year to do so though…

Yup, looks like a reasonable draw. We seem to avoid the big boys til late.

A 10-11 seed is a bubble team. KU doesn’t have a bubble team resume. Xavier is the last team in on ESPN’s projection, they’re 1-8 in Quad 1 games. KU has 4 wins over top 13 teams in the NET rankings including over number 1 Duke. If KU somehow made a run and won the Big 12 Tournament they would likely move into a top 4 seed if that path included wins over Arizona in the quarterfinals, Texas Tech in the semifinals, and Houston/Iowa St in the championship game.
-
@DCHawker we actually have 6 Quad 1 wins after yesterday. I think we get a 8 seed only if we lose the first game in the B12 but if we win a few games I’d bet on a 6 seed. Win the whole thing it’s a 4 or 5 pending on what happens at other tournaments.

Team desperately needs positive momentum and good seeding. Avoiding Houston and BYU is a win
-
I’m seeing clearly now that we want to avoid a 7-8 seed in the NCAAs. Rough facing a 1 or 2 seed that early, so a 6 seed would be sooo much better.
I hope the team can indeed build some momentum and get to the final of the Big 12 tourney.

@rockchalkjayhawk I want no part of Auburn, that I will tell you

Just passing conversation here but, did anyone else happen to see before the game and in the huddle, Juan was a little teary eyed- - did pretty good a holding back but was some emotional , but who wouldn’t red eyes - -great kid, I know like to talk on the kid but he has plenty of Heart, to bad some others don’t.
I think all that gave their speech’s afterwards did real good at holding up , I know we have had a few that the water works was full force- -dan’t blame them emotional time
-
@SlimShaddy54 Self said he almost could not play Dejuan because he was crying too hard.
He cares more about KU than the other players combined - my take. And yet some in the fanbase think they care more. They certainly ugly cry (loudly in public) more.
-
@dylans Couldn’t of been said any better my friend.- -I could tell he was having a hard time in the pre game huddle.- -Bottom line is Juan LOVES this School, he puts his heart into the game 100 % every time. Your right he got these critics my response to that is- - What the hell ever.
Bottom line is he is a pass first point guard --always has been , always will be. could he shot more ?- -maybe , but I’ve always been told your point guard is to run the offense , Assist other players to get a better shot then you got, defend,- -you score points is a bonus, a PG shouldn’t have to be relied on to Score that much, that’s what the wings are for their shooting ability, the five is counted on to score- -defend your rim and rebound – Juan is a Jay Hawk for life.- -sure he has made mistakes- -some at critical times, who on this team hasn’t ?
Again agree with you man 100 % spot on- Thank you
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Id take a 11 or 12 seed for the same reason. Tougher 1st round matchup but then we avoid the 1-2 seed in the 2nd round.

Just for fun looking at ESPN’s Bracketology today we are a 7 seed in the Midwest Region. First round oppo’s are effing Arkansas and then Alabama. I have watched the Hogs play 25 or so times and the Jayhawks 25 or so times all with my trusty side kick the fair Donna in the house. She is a well connected die hard Hogger so much so several years ago during her Uncle Pete’s hospice time Broyles visited. Well Uncle Pete who had never missed a home football game in 50 years had taken the young Donna, who was then a high schooler, in tow a few times and Donna knew Missus Broyles (Barb) from her job in Fayetteville. Okay the stage is set and this morning I said honey the Razorbacks and Kansas might play each other in the tournament. I can’t really describe the look on her face. After a few moments she said unless you make me I’m not watching it with you. I’m thinking wow I must have super powers I didn’t know about. We had fun planning alternatives like one of us would go watch it at 94 years old Ma’s, aaaaaaaaah no, the bedroom banishment was a no because she said I could still hear you, I could go to a bar wearing my Kansas hoodie she said no you might get beat up. I bristled at that but I’m old and pretty unsteady and bruise easily and she said you are not going to a bar without me. I guess I’m not the only one with super powers. So she said she just might go to the casino by herself and I’m thinking about my new found super powers but testing the limits might be disappointing. In the end we will watch it at home with loaded baked potatoes from Smokin Joes.

This team’s transfers are really lucky because at least one of them is always going to be on the floor and with the green light on. The most complete player is Rylan who shoots 35.1% on trey’s, can make some steals and pass and defend. Coit brings the energy dishes the ball and shoots 39.3% from deep. Storr is running out of time to make his mark on the team but I keep seeing him do things that catch my attention like a tough rebound or a really nice move on offense to score but has that detachment and he doesn’t dog it anymore. They are all in the 6 PPG area with a few instances several points higher than average. To have any real success in the afterlife we need more don’t you think.
