If Bill’s roster falls apart…
-
I’m still trying to wrap my head around this—just look at this dude!
Flo lives to rack up points! He’s a blocking machine, crashes the boards like a pro…
So why isn’t he getting more touches? Does the coach believe in him? Do his teammates trust him to deliver?
He’s a STRIKER. FLO LOVES TO PUT BALLS IN THE NETS. LET HIM COOK!
-
I don’t care if everyone else is leaving, but Flo must not go.
Can you imagine him and Sammy, DP kicking everybody’s arses! I’m keeping my hopes up.

He’s not strong enough and he fouls too much. On defense, he still falls for seemingly every shot fake which leads to him picking up a bunch of cheap fouls. He’s also just not physically strong enough to dominate yet. He’s had plenty of rebounds stolen from him and he gets pushed off his spot too easily around other bigs.
The fouling issue will hopefully come with experience and he learns the game more. The second issue with his strength will be fixed in time and we should see a huge leap next season once he goes through a full off season strength and conditioning program and starts to fill out his frame more. The key there is determining what his ideal weight is to added the necessary strength while keeping his explosiveness .

@Texas-Hawk-10 Fair enough. Are you coach Nijeem? That’s what he’s been telling Flo. I hear ya. That’s why he needs minutes. We’ve seen KJ lost ball just as much. One thing coaching staff never corrects, his arms are always hanging instead of anticipate passes. Flo is born ready… to score. But yeah, I guess he needs to be able to protect ball in possession and learn how to lock down in the paint, etc…

More game minutes doesn’t fix Flory’s strength issue. There is no short cut for Flory bulking up, he just needs time in the weight room as he continues to physically mature. KJ’s issues are not the same as Flory’s. KJ rarely loses a ball once he gains possession of it. He just has stone hands and struggles to gain possession of the ball at times.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 as long as Flory’s strength isnt a health risk, the benefits of his play outweigh the limitations. If he gets stripped three times a game, or muscled out, he still is super active on the glass; he is getting stripped because he is getting to balls that KJ does not. Nobody would accuse Kevin Durant of being strong (I know they are very different players). You dont need to be strong to have a positive impact.
Also, I know you are an advocate for more even minute distribution. Yes, KJ is more mature, but I see Flory being capable of being more effective in most situations than KJ right now.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Huh that doesn’t compute with his performances when he started and played 25-30 mpg
What are you basing your analysis on exactly because it isn’t results when given the minutes
You sound like what the staff thinks will happen if he gets extended run but it was proven the opposite actually……and you’re still claiming “not strong enough - pushed off his spot” as some highly objective analysis.
Flory opens up the offense but more importantly is so impactful on defense with an actual rim protector. He blocks AND alters shots.
If dolla bill actually cared about defense and “stopping easy baskets” - Flory would never come out. More proof dolla bill’s own philosophy goes out the window for his favorites
-
@approxinfinity The fact we are even arguing impact on the game between these two is comically bad.
One guy stepped in and changed the game on both ends. I don’t care about nba potential but it is even more damning proof (based on draft boards) to go along with the actual results on the court
The whole 80 mpg 3 guys - 26-27 mpg hasn’t panned out and it won’t
-
Disclaimer: I am more invested in quality portmanteaus than in catagorizing the team realistically. Do you guys like “slothrocious dismayfense”?
-
@approxinfinity I love that! But I don’t think it applies to this team, except for the second half of that game I’m still trying to forget
-
@approxinfinity hmmm… slothrocious dismayfense - No results found… search google - directed to your post… - google translate: sloth ROC IOUs dismay pink… i’m at lost. sorry, old timer here. lolz…
-
@jay4ever its a portmanteau of sloth and atrocious, and dismay and defense. Work in progress…
-
@jay4ever i am kind of excited we are the internet progenitor of slothrocious dismayfense, ngl.

A question that becomes a vital piece for NEXT years roster is even though he is a sloth a wreck on defense , the Question becomes how do we replace Hunters offensive production where he is usually putting up right at twenty per game. Who is gonna fill that void ?
Flory probably gonna be the starting five right ?-- So Flory has a lot of upside , gonna be good , but right now and next year he is still raw, especially offensively lot of growing to do offensively , not even sure he will come close point wise to Hunter ever , just not that type - -or at least not yet. So in that respect were gonna be weak, you figure even if Flory jumps to twelve/thirteen a game next year that’s still a sufficent drop-- for sure going to be a big spot to fill point production wise
-
@SlimShaddy54 I’m confident that Peterson can step in and replace hunter’s production
-
Balanced scoring would obviously be good, even with Peterson bolstering a pretty average perimeter offense. Think the question about interior scoring is still valid. I also think Flory has shown some creativity as well as versatility (he just goes after it and gets to things) that can translate to consistent buckets with 30 mpg. We should still recruit another offensively skilled big I think.
-
@rcjhdraft Then who is taking Mayo’s- - Peterson filling Mayo’s point production
-
@rcjhdraft You need a five man to take Hunters point production- Peterson stepping in and taking of May’s point production --different positions
-

You’re not directly replacing everyone’s scoring numbers position for position and you don’t need to do it that way. Flory is nowhere near as skilled as Hunter and won’t average 17 ppg. Doke was never a skilled played and could be taken out of games by more skilled players, part of why he never averaged more than 13 ppg. Flory is probably closer to that range.
Overall, KU is averaging 76 ppg with only 2 players in double figures this season. That’s a big issue this season as we don’t have a reliable 3rd or 4th option. That’s what KU needs next season. Peterson probably does lead the team in scoring next season. From there, who’s the second scorer going to be? Will it be Flory or Elamrko? What’s the wing going to look like? I know you assume everyone leaves, but we all thought several players would leave last season that didn’t because of NIL.
At this point, I could see KU running a starting line up with Jackson, Peterson, Griffen, Storr, and Bidunga next season as a starting line up. I still think a starting caliber 4 is the biggest need in the portal.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree with Jackson- – Peterson - - Griffen-- & Flory - - Storr ? - -Nope but everyone has their opinion on that no problem there. Would be a good or should be a good balanced group- -now add some quality depth to that , add Diggy coming off the bench for a few minutes would be a start

Just remember how many rumors there were about Elmarko leaving last season only for him to never enter the portal. NIL may affect next season’s roster more than you think. Storr is rumored to be making somewhere between $750k-$1 mil. Don’t be too shocked if that is a big enough influence for AJ to hang around another season.
-
Another season with AJ isn’t going to benefit either side here
-
The production will be replaced easily. Hunter gets you 20 but isn’t the difference between wins for this team. He gets his usual and never strays too far from it regardless of the opponent. Peterson will offer a completely different dynamic. He’s an NBA player and Hunt will never see the league so there’s a big difference there in terms of what impact he could give.
Self will have to find scorers in the portal again though. Flory will be another double figure guy but beyond that he’s going to need to find 3rd and 4th options. Elmarko and Diggy can give you consistent bench pts probably. This offseason will be the most critical one we’ve had in perhaps the Self era because there just is so much change coming
-
Anybody else watching this Arizona/ Houston game ? – 9-8 Arizona with under twelve to go in 1st half.- - -Can it be interesting game with that kind of Score ?-- I think it’s still a good game , just neither team hitting squat, energy level is there for sure
-
@approxinfinity Definitely! And, i’m not gonna lie lol… you make me learn more than just caring about KU bball! Thanks!
-
I see that the NCAA still has us aas one of the top 16 seeds in their initial projections

That was hilarious actually. Just let’s you know that people really don’t pay attention
-
I truly believe this season can still be a winning one (ok, I have to edit this post) - maybe sweet 16 at max. Most of the losses, if not all, have come down to an inability to put points on the board—scoring, scoring, and more scoring. Defense is crucial, no doubt, but if you can’t match hot three-point shooting shot for shot, then you have to make up for it with dominance on the other end. Winning starts with finding a way to keep up and take control. If KJ can’t do that, insert Flo - throws a bunch of lobs, which I haven’t seen much at all when he’s on the floor. Such a waste of talent, right?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 is Mcdowell ever going to get more than walk on minutes? Feels likely to be recruited over?
I thought he seemed promising but then no longer appeared to be impactful when in.
-
The only one small thing that could begin to possibly help come NCAA tourney time is - - we aren’t playing on opposition home floor where ovrwhelming opposition fans – Neutral court- -I know- - I know that’s a reach , but trying to find positive going into tourney
-
Two things from Houston- - Arizona-- Arizona last two games- -5-44 from the 3 point line- - umm NOT GOOD- - and mercy since Houston joined the league is now 28-4 - 11 straight road wins , longest in the Nation- - that is truly Dominance
-
why do these teams look so different when they are not playing us ? - - WV taking Baylor into OT at Baylor-- - Cinn within four points to Iowa St late in the game- – -dam
-
Well the refs wanna be noticed in the Iowa St game now- - -Surprise
-
K/State getting spanked at the half by BYU- - -40-22
-
See…how easy it is to throw to Flo!
-
Update: this roster has completely fell apart
-
lolz
