Three guys open

But running for his life
-
And - - Again Daniels fault lol for the offensive line just getting BLOWN UP no protection, please don’t say he just needs to get rid of the ball, bad decision making - -he throws the ball away - -you STILL have 4th down and punting the ball

Daniels is very sped up tonight and has made a bunch of mistakes. Fumbles, bad throws, bad reads, taking off too quickly. Outside of the first drive when Baylor clearly wasn’t expecting Daniels to start, has done next to nothing tonight and Daniels has looked overwhelmed and panicky tonight. He might be ready later this season, but he’s not ready yet to me.
ummm by far , by far not Daniels snaps low and wide - - Gardner drops a WIDE open td Highshaw can’t pick up one YARD ON 4TH and 1 - that’s NOT Daniels - -that’s on your offensive line NOT FANIELS he is doing fine , sure 1st game jitters but like they announcers saying on the radio much QUICKER release on his throws - -sure the hell don’t need Macvittie to stink thinks up and he is a SENIOR where is his leadership ? - - back at the ranch thats where
Daniels has bobbled multiple snaps, the Gardner drop was poor placement by Daniels, overthrowing a wide open Parchment in the end zone, putting passes in places where the receivers have to stop and adjust instead of hitting the receivers in stride. Hanging on to the ball too long because he’s not going to his progressions or pulling the ball because his initial read isn’t there. The OLine has absolutely nothing to do with those issues. Those are 100% on Daniels, not the OLine.
He’s made a bunch of mistakes tonight that MacVittie wouldn’t have made because MacVittie has college experience.
Jalon Daniels should be the back up to MacVittie right now getting 2-3 series a game in more controlled.scenarios to ease him into playing and then hand the keys over to him midseason when he’s better adjusted and equipped to the job.

Taking a sack in that spot is a bad decision. That’s why you don’t put an inexperienced QB behind a shit OLine. They make stupid decisions like taking those kind of sacks.

Yes, ball placement makes a big deal in the catch ability of a pass. That pass to Gardner was over his outside shoulder instead of his inside shoulder. That’s he why didn’t catch that pass.

Just stop, you’re lack of football knowledge is shining bright right now. Go watch Pat Mahomes hit receivers in stride and watch Daniels put the ball in bad spots and still tell me ball placement doesn’t matter.
That sack was a bad sack to take because of field position. Throwing it away instead of losing yardage and taking another hit from a defender was the better play.

@jayballer67 I agree with you on Daniels…Daniels is the future for ku this year. I rather play a freshman who clearly has a strong upside this year then play some old senior who couldn’t out compete an average Carter Stanley. The junior Kendrick I would have been fine with giving a little more of a chance, but here on out we should play Daniels. Daniels will grow more from playing then sitting on the bench… you can’t help that our o line sucks, defense is not good. We have talent at skill positions but too many other flaws. Offensive play calling has been suspect and pooka played at wide receiver way too many times
-
67 yds rushing through 3 quarters is a real problem. I really thought our rushing game would come together this year.
-
Unless you think it will ruin Daniels by continuing to play him I like doing to to get him experience.

Need to see pooka for 99

Ya I’d rather seen Kendrick before MacVittie - - anybody but that him. , and again your right if he is the QB of this team why couldn’t he beat out Stanley ? Danils and Easters are our future, and the only way to gain experience is game reps - your sure not gaining any by running QB in practice. - -We knew before this season began we are still a bout a year or two out - but why waste another year with a kid like MacVittie when Daniels can get reps and still come back without losing any eligibilty couldn’t agree more

What has KU’s passing game done to make a defense not keep keying on Pooka or Gardner though? This is what’s going to happen all year because KU doesn’t have a competent QB on the roster. Pooka is a great back, but defenses are going to load up to stop the run because the passing game isn’t a serious threat.
-
Yeah!
-
man crazy , they just said what would you say that Baylor only has 46 more yards of offense then Ku ? - - Saying the two returns by ebner was huge
-
Pooka for 15-70 yds and 5.6 average- -
-
Brewer they said only had 142 yards passing - -Daniels 127 yards - - - -again those two big returns for TD’s
-
if nobody scores again did pretty good on prediction. Earlier in the thread I said 26-27 point spread right now 26, I think still we are going to see more of Daniels not great but was better then the other option and we got him for 4 more years - he gonna be all right
-
Is there a single position group that’s playing at a D-1 level? Where does a competent coaching staff start with this team? I saw some comments that we nearly won the total yds. category, which was KU 328 to BA 352. But its the scoreboard that matters. How in the hell does the defense give up 45 points (not counting the safety) on 352 yds. Did any of our coaches earn their paychecks since the loss to CC?
But, it’s clear that Daniels is our QB. Finally, we have one QB. So, the plan for the rest of the year is just to show up, get our asses kicked and hope some year in the future we field a competitive team.

Well your right chances are , were are going to continue to be the whipping boy for another year maybe two. Your also right we have our QB of the future. He has to learn his position by being put in and getting game reps. You and I agreed on this last night.
Since I was so sweetly informed that my lack of football knowledge was very clear - So I decided to hear input from people who REALLY DO HAVE FOOTBALL KNOWLEDGE. - -former KU players , Brandon McAnderson & David Lawerence , an ya Brian Hanni but I really don’t include him - - I’m talking about football players.
So after I will say what I heard from them then we will probably be told that THEY also have no football knowledge lmao… - We heard from the past that if Daniels was better then he would be out there - -well ummm hello , him taking every single snap last night , none of this back and forth crap. - Laweerence And McAnderson both said at least with Daniels there is hope , and they said even after when the game was out of reach - they said the thing they kept thinking wanting to see more of Daniels.
They talked about what a cannon of a arm Jalen has & how those flare and little passes in the flat that always got resulted in losses - -they said those plays take time and you have to get the ball out quick - -previous QB’S haven’t been able to do that - - -Jalen doesn’t have that problem
Listening to the conference with Miles he was pretty satisified with Daniels - -he is the future at QB for us - totally different then McVittie , people talking about how he had so much more experience - - Coach’s realize in order for him to get better he needs those game reps - -thusly that came last night. - -the more reps he gets the better he will be -Good size , think they said he was 6 ft or 6’1 and like 214 pounds.
David Lawrence and McAnderson just kept talking about Daniels and saying when they saw him in the practices they wer truly impressed. - No comparison in arm strength, Did he miss receivers? - -sure he di - -did receivers drop passes ?- -Umm yep Did he fumble some snaps - -umm ya , this was his 1st game -people gonna make some mistakes , but overall much , much , much better then the other options - -another reason he played every snap - -if the other two guys are that much better then why didn’t they take Daniels out ?
I’m thinking I will respect formers players who just might have a little more COLLEGE FOOTBALL knowledge then some in here - ya Ithink I’ll take what they have to say a little more then others -there has been several people fans that have been wanting to see Danils get this. - -I’m thinking you will see him again and soon.
Do you realize that here at Ku for the past 11 off seasons we haven’t known who is going to be the starting QB the following season. - that was brought up too. 11 Seasons - hard to get any kind of continuity with that being the case - -I think your probably gonna see more of a single QB for us instead of this rotating all the time. - -For sure lose nothing by playing Jalen this year - like a free year of game rep experience for him and STILL have him for 4 more years.- -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer67 probably got the point

jb, I always appreciate your input. You always research far and wide for information. Since sports are so unpredictable, anyone may use hindsight to point out someone else’s incorrect opinion or statement. Oh well, I’m wrong most of the time; I thought (hoped) KU would make a much closer game of it with the Bears. Wrong, wrong, and really wrong.

@jayballer67 So people employed by JTV, which is part of Kansas Athletics, are going to give unbiased and neutral opinions about Kansas football?
This is just some of the snippets from Les’s post game conference last night and they don’t really sound like an endorsement of Daniels going forward.
“While Miles stated during his postgame video press conference he wasn’t “displeased” with Daniels “in any way,” KU’s head coach didn’t commit to starting the freshman again next week…”
Curious phrasing even for Les in regards to how Daniels played last night. There’s a lot of choices there to express satisfaction with someone’s play and Les didn’t exactly come across like Dainels earned the job going forward.
“Miles said MacVittie wasn’t actually available for the Big 12 opener in Waco, Texas…”
“Thomas wasn’t healthy at this point,” Miles admitted afterward, though the coach had said during the week leading up to the game he expected KU’s senior QB to be available and see the field.
Sounds like the staff expected MacVittie to be ready, but he still isn’t and since no details were given as to what MacVittie’s actual injury is, speculation is there is there at this point as to the exact nature of the injury.
The post game press conference paints more of a picture of Miles and Dearmon being forced into playing Daniels because MacVittie was still too banged up to play last night.
But what do I know, I’m not a former Kansas football player getting paid by Kansas Athletics to express opinions about Kansas football. I’m just a guy that’s been involved in playing/coaching football for the better part of 15 years of my life.
Jalon Daniels is not a P5 caliber QB. It doesn’t strike you as odd that a supposed 3* recruit from one the the top 5 recruiting areas nationally in the greater Los Angeles area can’t even get a scholarship offer from a Mountain West team, let alone a P12 program despite being in their backyards? That’s telling of what local scouts thought of his talent.
There’s a reason why after all of the practices leading up to the CC games, Miles and Dearmon had evaluated Daniels as being the third best option. I think Daniels is abetter option than Miles Kendrick, but that’s not saying much because I doubt Kendrick is still in a KU uniform next season with Easters coming in.
It’d be one thing if Les and/or Dearmon were out saying that Daniels was the future at QB and they were looking towards developing the future, but that’s not the message being sent by Miles. The message we got last night was Miles was expecting MacVittie to be healthy enough to play last night, but wasn’t and was forced to play a true freshman at QB who isn’t ready to play big snaps yet.

@Texas-Hawk-10 honestly like what’s the upside of MacVittie. At least playing Daniels you have the ability to see if the kid has it, and if he doesn’t show progression you know recruiting wise to move on. This team won’t make a bowl game!!! MacVittie had his chance week one and blew it against a mid major team. Daniels has D1 athleticism and arm strength. Maybe he will be a cozart and struggle with field vision. But I’d rather sit and watch to see if he progresses then the alternative.
