@kjayhawks2.0 hes not a first round talent
-
@Jayhawk_69 a big nil offer for a 6'7 big who cant score?
-
Tough call on Flory.
Strengths: a big who can hedge on the perimeter like Self wants! Those don’t grow on trees. He can stick with smaller players with his quick feet. Shot blocker. His around-the-basket scoring is greatly improved. Bouncy. Mobile.
Weaknesses: Big bigs!
So he’s an asset some games, and a weakness others.
I guess I’d prefer an inside player to be a strength vs other inside players. He’s not that, mostly.
Not that I (or we) have a clue about how NIL money is tossed around, but I’d say he’s not worth the lion’s share if it limits spending on filling out the roster with other quality players.
Spend it elsewhere, on some shooting and depth.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk you said it well.
The big unknown factor to me is locker room demeanor. Work ethic. Team identity. This year we had a kid who wasnt a leader getting paid the most. Scorer, good kid, smart. DP was all these things but not a leader. Probably will be with time and if he is graced with good health.
I think Flory could be a leader next year. Lets make sure we at least have our highest paid guys be leaders.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I agree cuz soon as he plays 7footers its a struggle for him
-
@kjayhawks2.0
"I’m hearing Elmarko and Mari are staying no matter what"Shades of Juan staying too long......This can't be. Not as starters. Their bench production made clear that combined they aren't worth one Kohl Rosario.
-
There's a consistent theme here. Bill Self is sawft.
What would the roster and staff have looked like if this hadn't happened? https://kualumni.org/news/kansas-signs-mens-basketball-head-coach-bill-self-to-lifetime-contract/
Do we still win a championship in 2022?
Should you ever give a coach a lifetime contract in NIL era? Does this undermine natural tension and accountability? Expectations dont change.
Mike Krzyzewski signed a "lifetime" contract with Duke University on November 14, 2001 immediately after winning a title, and then won in 2015, and 2021. Not all coaches can get 10 McD AAs every year and the Dukie whistle. So, thats anomolous.
As of March 2026, there are only 2? lifetime ie rolling year-to-year-contracts in college basketball: Bill Self (Kansas) and Rick Barnes (Tennessee). Barnes signed his in 2025.

Yes I’m fine with them staying but unless they improve drastically this off season they shouldn’t be in the rotation and if they are I won’t believe in the team going anywhere. I’ll die on the hill of Kohl and Dawson playing most of their minutes would’ve made the team better.
-
RE Kohl. Believe he wouldn't mind staying. His dad on the other hand... I think dad wins out in the end.
-
@kjayhawks2.0 who are u hearing this from
-
@BShark yep, Kohl is very active in the community. He seems to really enjoy it here but yeah I don’t think he’ll be around
-
Well. Maybe Flory can recruit Kohl to stay. from one underutilized freshman to another. Year 2 is what you survive year 1 of Bill for. </fan fiction>

Duke didn't win in 2021, Baylor did. Duke didn't even make the NCAA Tournament in 2021.

Highest paid players don't have to be the leader of a team. It doesn't even have to be the best player that's the leader of a team. Using the NBA as an example, there's a reason why Nick Collison was kept around by the Thunder for so many years and retired his jersey. Same thing with Udonis Haslam and the Miami Heat. Those two were never the best players on those teams, but they were the leaders.
The ideal leadership situation for Kansas next year is the slim possibility of Melvin Council getting one more year of eligibility.
-
@HoraceZontal What if law enforcement/ firefighters/ EMT's were paid like athletes? Oh wait.....sports is way more important than that foolishness.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Nick Collison won zero rings as a player. This supports my theory.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 lol. Ive been hallucinated upon in 2021. Thanks.
-
As far as Haslem, I'd say Lebron was one of the leaders as well, barking orders at Mario and doing his talcum powder thing. Things people accept because you're the best player on the team.
-
Zoom Diallo is interesting.
-
@nuleafjhawk yup. Exactly. Or teachers and journalists (real ones)
