The real question becomes are they nominated for this honor because they are that good or that Duke, MSU, and Kentucky have already signed them?
Yes I know it can go hand in hand.
BUT the reason I say this I always find it funny with football recruits as a junior they might be a three star recruit. Maybe a few smaller schools are after them say , Oklahoma State, Bosie st and such. The. Their senior year Alabama starts recruiting them along with Texas. Kid is putting up same numbers as a junior but is now a 5 star recruit because Nick Saban is recruiting him.

Apparently players are nominated by their schools and it really does not mean much at this stage since there are close to 800 players nominated. Here is a link to the complete list…BTW, Mitch Lightfoot is one of the nominees…

@JayHawkFanToo Mitch is why I sent it

By the end of the season, I would not be surprised if Mitch is a top 50 players, but at this time, he is not close t being in the top 24 that get selected…at least I don’t think so, although I would love to see him there.

I wonder if Harry Giles will be an All American despite being hurt and not being able to play… Great player but if he can’t physically play this year how can he be an All-American? Does he get rewarded for what he did in previous years…A case where his reputation is probably going to earn him an honor that someone else might actually deserve for how they played their Sr year.
Dennis Smith can’t play, he’s enrolled at NC State- #4 rated player on ESPN
Alkins #15 can’t play. That makes 3 of the top 20 likely not playing.
I would assume Huell #21, Azuibuike #22, Herron #24, Bradley #26, Gilbert #28, Winston #29, Killeya-Jones #31, all have great shots outside the top 20 of getting a spot.

Indeed. Just because schools nominate players does not mean they have a chance of making it. I can understand having 50 maybe 60 players nominated but 800 players ???..looks more like something nice schools do for players and not necessarily realistic nominations.

Hey… I’m on the list!

@drgnslayr No…that’s the list of people that EAT at McDonald’s…:)

The answer appears to be both, but the honor and game appear to have no purpose now beyond promotion. It is a hollow ritual of hype–the opposite of a living myth.
The age of hype in sport is consistent with an age of empire baroque.
On the other hand, it’s better than another war.

Every player that has been signed (or not) by any and all schools appears to get nominated…there are 800 players nominated…who recruited them has no bearing that I can see. I imagine many of those nominated might not even be playing Division I basketball. Like I mentioned, players are nominated by their own schools and not by an outside organization so it is really something school do for their players…

Good point. I have clarified that my take referred to those that get picked for the game.
