Iowa States HUGE hit

  • well you all probably already knew, but I just saw myself off the ESPN site. Naz Long for Iowa State is done for the year, because of his hip Issues Huge Hit for them, as it states in the news article already really thin said 7 players , nobody can replace him for that team, they are getting a player eligible for them but different position, huge hit. I think this really damages their chances for a deep run in the NCAA’S, as much as I can’t stand the Iowa State fans I feel sorry for their team just a casuality of the game I guess. He is seeking a medical redshirt just thought I would throw it out in case you hadn’t seen. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I hated to read that. I want ISU to do well (except against us) because they represent the B12. And… we have a good series going on with them. You always want to play teams at full strength.

But I’m not ready to write their obituary just yet. I remember when Kansas lost Archie Marshall the last time… This is an opportunity for ISU to build a big chip and dedicate their season to Long.

Tough break for ISU, but they need to step up and fight that much harder now.

  • Sucks for the kid and Iowa St’s depth.

But I’m not going to shed a tear for him because I have little respect for Iowa St. Long is the guy that makes 6 3’s when we play them in Ames or in the Big 12 tourney. So I’m okay with him being out, it makes our road game in Ames a little bit easier. Burton the transfer they get back is not a shooter.

  • I dislike some teams that are good for obvious reasons, but I’ve always admired ISU. Fred had them play so well, obviously against us especially, but always seemed to do it in a classy manner.

Their fans on the other hand…

  • You guys (and gals) are so much better than me. I hate to see ANY player hurt, even a Kentucky player, but since they ARE hurt…hmmm…oh well. Honestly, the only Big 12 team that I want to do well is KU. I know, I know, strength of schedule and perceived strength of conference.

    Don’t care.

  • What are his chances to get a med red shirt?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I believe the threshold is 30% of games/matches. He was pretty close to that and likely would have exceeded that in the next 3 or 4 games. I’m guessing that is why he chose to shut it down now.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I am not sure he can get a medical hardship waiver or red shirt.

    Medical Hardship Requirements

To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

    • The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
    • The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
    • The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
    • The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

Since has played in 8 games already it looks like the fourth criteria is not met.

This is what Jeff Goodman (ESPN Insider) twitted:

"Iowa State will miss Naz Mitrou-Long for his leadership and vocal presence as much as anything else. Matt Thomas more than capable of making shots. Hallice Cooke will also need to step up. What I don’t understand if why Long made an announcement now. Could have sat for a month and seen if felt better. Gotta wonder if he will graduate and try and play elsewhere next year."

  • Can you med red shirt and transfer if you graduate? A regular transfer would lose this fourth year if he played at all. Cf lost a half year and didn’t play at all his last semester, but practiced up til first game. Confusing.

  • @JayHawkFanToo I think that’s fb, 3 games.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

If, and it is a big if, he gets a red shirt and graduates, he would eligible to play anywhere without a wait.

  • @JayHawkFanToo even though he played? Those transfers that graduate have only played 3 years. I’m not sure about it.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

The red-shirt would basically void this year and give him an additional full year…and if he graduates, he does not have to wait one year.

  • @JayHawkFanToo has it happened before? The med red and transfer?

  • @JayHawkFanToo you did see the pic of SZ in Christmas sweater? Figured you made it into a full size poster!😬

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Not yet…does it have a big, red pointy had that says DUNCE?

  • @JayHawkFanToo look under ugly sweater post

  • @Crimsonorblue22

I guess I missed it but I see it now…the blackout sweater suit…funny.

  • @wissoxfan83 agreed. I well let me try and find the right word- - I guess dis like would fit, I dis-like because the were and are a threat to us. Like drgnslayr said I want them to do well, espically when it comes to the NCAA’S because they are another member representing us in the BIG 12 , and to that , that’s’ where they took a HUGE hit, I actually thought they had a very legitimate shot at making a final 4 run , who knows maybe still do but this difently hurts for sure. But you right for that clown of an Iowa State fan base I couldn’t be happier not because Naz is hurt don’t like that a bit but because the fans are idiots. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @JayHawkFanwhat he stated in the ESPN article was the reason he played at all, was he wanted to see if he could give it a go, but then went to Coach and said he wanted to sit and give time to really heal and looking at medical red-shirt. I’m sure if Coach thought because of games played he would of informed Naz of such at the time.He had surgery on the one hip in April and then the other hip a short time later, don’t really look for him to transfer. • @jayballer54

If you were referring to my post, I did not say that, I quoted and properly credited Jeff Goodman of ESPN for the comment.
