A question for all professional journalists to ask all D1 coaches...and never get "access" again
-
How much of your personal shoe contract money would you be willing to give up to sign an OAD player with a long term relationship with another shoe brand?
-
Sad to say, but is this even ‘legal’ in the terms of their contract?
-
It’s not only legal but Self’s contract is mostly paid by Adidas I think.
Maybe we should start by asking the journalists how much of their Shoeco money they are willing to forego to ask that question.
[Update: @Texas-Hawk-10 has explained that I was wrong! I take it all back. Sorry about that.]
-
Self works for adidas?
The players play for KU?
Hmm.
-
@ParisHawk Actually what I meant is Self allowed by Adidas to go out and sign a Nike kid? Has he done this before?
-
@wissoxfan83 Wasn’t Wigs considered a major Nike lean?
-
@ParisHawk I believe the donors pay Self’s salary and that the Adidas and JTV contracts fund the majority of the non-revenue programs.

Thanks for correcting me. I don’t want to push incorrect stuff out in the ether. I have updated my post to take back what I said.
-
@ParisHawk I’m not 100% sure on Adidas contract and JTV stuff, but I read that awhile back so that part could be wrong.
Bill Self’s contract is available for the public to read and it breaks down his salary and what incentives and how much each is worth. Part of his salary is paid by the state of Kansas because Self is officially an employee of the state. That number is somewhere around $275,000 and the rest is paid for through donor funds.
-
@Lulufulu I have no clue, I really don’t pay attention to who wears what shoes! I just like to see what else they’re wearing besides their shoes!
-
Isn’t it insane that we live in a world where we don’t even know who all is paying our own coach?
-
@jaybate-1.0 Surely not the Kochs…
-
Probably not but…
-
Do you, or does anyone else, have any idea what Self makes a year for endorsing adidas himself?
And which basketball coaches are the highest paid for endorsing a Big Shoe brand?
And does any coach endorse one Petroshoeco, while his school endorses another Petroshoeco?
-
While Coach Self is technically a state employee, only a small part of his salary is paid by KU/State; the bulk of his salary is paid through Kansas Athletics Inc., a separate 501(3) athletic associations, that manages things such as private donations, ticket revenue and commercialized dollars.
-
I’m thinking you’re a Koch! Now to figure out which one…
-
You got me. I’m Former NYC Mayor Ed Koch!
-
well played!
