ISU loses

“The Cyclones jumped out to a 20-2 lead…”
Sounds like the same ol’ clones.
-
Wow. I did not even now they were in Spain. Here is another link that indicates they have only 6 scholarship players and 9 total…I wonder why so few players…
-
@drgnslayr wonder if they are on tv? Doubt it.
-
Naz long had hip surgery earlier this spring.
-
Sound likes their 7’ Greek red shirt Center is not playing and might not be coming back either.
-
@JayHawkFanToo hmmm?
-
Many players signed with ISU with the understanding the Hoiberg would help them get to the NBA. Now that he is gone. ISU does not look nearly as appealing. With their big guns leaving after the upcoming season, the new coach will have an up-hill battle recruiting-wise.
-
@JayHawkFanToo so where did u hear about the center not showing?
-
The 2 guys they added Ernst & Carter are not playing which they signed in case this greek kid doesn’t come back. Their freshman PG is out (with a family issue) & Burton isn’t participating. And we thought we had it bad for the WUG…
-
@BeddieKU23 Yeah, in comparison, we were stacked for the WUG’s! They lost to Venezuela national team? KUSA would have beaten them by 30.
-
Here is a link that talks about the Greek Center…
-
The Greek is gone. He must have missed his suvlaki!
-
@drgnslayr I know the article cites Hoiberg leaving, but given all the turmoil in the Greek economy, it’s entirely conceivable that he or his family needed the money. And it’s not like his spot in the ISU rotation was guaranteed. If you’re gonna keep the bench warm, may as well collect a paycheck while you’re at it, right?
-
I agree… what was he doing over here? His NBA potential… very unlikely.
-
can’t blame him for turning pro with that size. It’s not everyday you find a 7-1 C.
What I do find funny how the article says he wasn’t a major loss but yet if he was here was expected to get backup minutes for a team that has zero post depth behind their starters. I mean they had to go sign 2 un-heralded recruits last minute to even have some size behind them. Sounds to me they will be playing Nader or Burton out of position a lot because expecting those guys they signed to make impacts is risky. So not having a 7’1 international talent that at least got some court burn is a major loss in my eyes…
-
This link has some more context. When you consider that he was still consider a project and not a player ready to contribute, then the loss is not nearly as bad. More troubling is that he clearly mentions Hoiberg leaving as the reason for not coming back; obviously this sends a message that many prospect would use to remove ISU from their list…just when the rivalry with ISU was getting good looks like they might regress some…or a lot…in the future.

Good points.
We always look at the elite talent and assess if they should leave college early to avoid possible injury risk preventing them from making a big time career. But there isn’t a difference for other players with other opportunities.
I have a feeling, as you mentioned, his family could really use the income, and then he received the opportunity to get it. He is wise to accept the “bird in the hand” and not make the sucker bet of returning for more risk with little to gain.

Sorry, I’m not sure how to make a fancy link! But what is the competition like? We all knew McKay is a stud, but are we looking at a Big 12 player of the year possibility? He has expanded his game beyond trash buckets?
