Many Thanks to Larry Brown

The addition of Nic Moore to the KU summer lineup for the WUGs appears to have reassured Bill Self that Selden will best fit the 3 spot this season. Perhaps with a healthy Graham, Nic’s presence would have been less essential. But he is a very skilled guard who, combined with Frank, looks to be a beacon for Self and Graham. Now it will be interesting to watch Svi work at the 2 spot, as HEM thinks he might best be situated.

Keeping Graham healthy will be the key to keeping Wayne in that spot. If Graham gets another significant injury (2nd now in a year) then our PG depth and potential lineups alter dramatically.

@REHawk I originally had wondered if DG had sustained a long term recovery type injury but he was shagging balls at sprint during warm ups & not immobilized as I had envisioned. Encouraging site to me as I’ve endured several torn muscles & not been a quick healing process at all. Wayne was simply just a badass on both ends of the floor at the Tues game & I’d have to believe this is finally his time to shine at the 3. Not sure if his elevation is what it was when younger but when attacking a rebound you sure realize one word NOT to describe him with is bashful. He systematically escapes the box out & climbs relentlessly into the trees.

@globaljaybird
I don’t know…his one dunk on Tuesday seems to indicate that he has his jumping skill back at full force.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Maybe he was laying back in warm ups. Watched him for at least half an hour & just seemed different. Prob saving energy.

I am estatic over Wayne at the 3. I think it will match his skill set much better. I have swung around 180 degrees with Wayne, and his new position. I think he could have a break out year. I think we have a shot at the title, and moving Wayne to the 3 will help us get there.

@globaljaybird
Dunking during warmups is illegal in college BBall and results in a technical foul. I believe that FIBA might have the same rule. Dunking takes a fair amount of energy; Dean Smith at UNC had a drill where layups counted more than dunks and 3-point shots as he believed it had the highest percentage of success with the least effort; Coach Roy Williams had talked about this on a few occasions.
-
i believe the dunking rule was taken care of this round of rule changes. no longer an issue?
-
I’m riding your optimism!

The USA/KU game was not a NCAA sanctioned game and it was played under FIBA rule,s which I believe do not allow dunking during warmups either…but I am not 100% on this. I know you can dunk in the NBA during warmups but I really have not seen any; no sense in wasting energy before the game.
-
@BeddieKU23 You’re right. According to Sporting News, the pre-game dunking rule was lifted, and is no longer a technical by NCAA rules. And according to FIBA rules, its a technical to hang on the rim, but no mention of dunking during the pre-game warm-ups.
-
Yes, that rule was lifted by it does not go into effect until the start of the new season. The game was not NCAA sanctioned so it would not apply anyway. I got some information about FIBA rules but as I mentioned, nothing conclusive so am not 100 %sure one way or the other. I do know that during warmup players try take it easy before the game and even in the NBA I just don’t see dunking during warmups. I do know that some players like to dunk before/during practice warmups; LeBron is known for trying some extreme dunks during this time but not during game warmups.
