WUG uniforms
-
-
I like them. Looks like KU vs the World!
-
I read that the uniform would have both, the USA and KU words displayed prominently. I don’t see USA displayed prominently other than under the small logo on the chest.
-
@JayHawkFanToo The USA lettering may not be all over these, but there are enough stars and stripes on these uniforms to know they’re also repping the USA.
-
-
KUSA
-
Call me old fashioned but if KU is representing the USA then the front of the shirt should say USA and not Kansas. If I understand correctly, every other USA team at the prior WUG, including Northern Iowa, wore the dark blue USA national uniform with USA on the front of the jersey.
-
Real bad decision to put Kansas on the jersey
-
Northern Iowa’s uniform at the 2007 WUG. They finished in 9th place.
-
Chants of “USA, USA,USA” scare these Shoe weasels to death. National pride cannot be tolerated when the goal is the death of the nation state. And if means slapping KU brand all over an international event at the exclusion of “USA”, well… they could always fall back on the concept KU brand is bigger than the USA brand, and Shoecos operate on a different value system than “love of country”.
I certainly do not object to the uniforms looking through the prism of a KU fan, although as an American citizen, I think it sucks when I see an American swimmer at the Olympics wearing a black suit. This is a hit job against our national identity … God forbid we show national pride…
-
@KUSTEVE I agree completely. We should have USA uniforms. Period. And you mention black swim suits – right on point. Red, white, and blue and only red, white, and blue. We don’t need black. We don’t need neon green. Wave the flag. You’re representing your country, not anything else.
-
I like the uniforms. We’d all be pissed if there was little mention of KU on them because its our team representing. KU did well to market its brand onto these jersey’s so that spectators know who it is. I hope they go on sale, definitely thinking of getting one.
-
@BeddieKU23 I love them, especially the history behind them. They said there would no jerseys for sale but tshirts and shooting shirts like the team will wear.
-
that’s a shame, they could make some bucks selling the jersey’s.
-
@BeddieKU23 from what I’ve been reading, most people want them.
-
I am not opposed to having the KU logo. I am opposed to it being prominently display where the USA logo should be. I would also like to see the national and not the KU as the primary uniform colors…dark blue with white and red trim or white with red and blue trim.
-
I’m wondering if Julian Debose and Nic Moore knew that they would be wearing Kansas on their chest.
-
I’m not really sure why it matters other than personal opinion of what you think the Jersey should look like.
Whether its KU or USA on the front its still the same. I bet KU lobbied to have its name the prominent feature on the Jersey. I would have, its a unique situation to be in.
-
You are kidding, right? Of course it matters!!!
The team is representing the United States not the University of Kansas and as such, it should have the USA logo in front and not KU’s. I am not averse to having the KU logo on the uniform but the primary one should be the USA. A quick look at the posts on this thread and you will see that it is not just my personal opinion and several other posters share it as well.
-
Totally agree. This is the WUG, and “USA” should be the predominate feature regardless. Put KU or Jayhawks somewhere on the jerseys, but have “USA” front and center.
-
I bet Dr Z had something to do with this, also with me not being able to watch them on tv since i dont like time warner
-
If Zenger had anything to do with this, the logo would show TWC or KSU…
-
7 stars on the back represents the 7 Jayhawks that won the 1952 Olympic Gold Medal.

-
@wrwlumpy Huh. I thought the seven stars represented the seven americans who’ve coached at Kansas.
-
I feel like they asked KU to represent the USA, therefore I like KU on them. I think they added the perfect combo of both, the star and stripes on socks, flag on shoe laces, stars and USA colors on shorts, I especially like the stars on shirts for the past Olympians, clever, clever idea.
-
A minor change would have done the trick, IMO:
-
@DanR nice
-
…exactly. They were asked to represent the US and they are not going to South Korea representing KU or the state of Kansas, they are going there representing the USA and as such, that name is the one that should be on the front of the jersey. All other teams in the competition will have the name of their countries, our team should not be any different.
The Cal State Fullerton baseball program has been selected to represent the United States at the 2015 WUG and, TTBOMK, they will be wearing the USA and not the school uniform.
Here is a link to the uniform all the other USA teams will be wearing. I will guess that Adidas had a say in KU wearing Adidas gear and not the official line.
-
Obviously this isn’t a big deal to USA Basketball otherwise they wouldn’t have let KU wear the uniforms they’re wearing for the tournament. This is also a chance for KU to brand itself on an international level which is not a bad thing for the university.
