Donovan to OKC? At least it isn't Bill Self...

  • Posted about an hour ago on CBT. The OAD reloads may have kept Self out of the mix on this one cause the Thunder is one hell of a team. I think Florida may be looking for a new HC real soon. Shaka is already promised-LOL Aw, WTH you can have him anyway…

  • This might mean some of Florida’s recruits will be back on the market. Anyone worth pursuing??

  • (burp) Eww… scampi heartburn!

Okay, I’m back in the Florida Gators dumpster and look what I unearthed:

    Noah Dickerson - 6-8, 237 | Class of 2015 | 4-Star

Offered by a lot of big schools, like Pitt, Georgetown, Tennessee… but signed an LOI with Florida.

Dickerson is a wide body post player that is strong, physical and more athletic than he appears. He has a good back to the basket scoring package that includes a nice baseline spin move. He has good hands and is an excellent area rebounder on both ends.

If Donovan takes off, my guess is that this big guy will want out of his LOI. He’s a great multi-year project with plenty of strength to start out with so we don’t have to hope Hudy can build him…

  • (belch) I’ve really got to watch what I eat out of a can.

I found another potential future Gator who might want to make a last-second jump to a real program (after Donovan leaves).

    Keith Stone - 6-7, 240 | Class of 2015 | 4-Star

Offered by Florida, Alabama, SC, VCU and VT… signed with Florida.

Stone is a combination forward with great size. He can finish at the rim with either hand with excellent touch and body control for a player his size. In the halfcourt Stone scores in a variety of ways inside the arc.

Here is a backup if Brown doesn’t come.

  • @globaljaybird

Maybe not quite the one hell of a team. I know they had lots of injuries but they missed the playoffs and fired the coach…how good can they really be? Just sayin’

  • @JayHawkFanToo Westbrook & Durant are 2 of the premier offensive players in all of pro ball in the entire world. A competent GM should be able to compliment that with the essential pieces for outstanding success. Maybe he should fire himself too.

  • @globaljaybird I don’t think they get a better coach.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Right out the chute I’ll say I’m not a twitterer, but Goodman is tweeting that Donovan will take the job if offered.

  • @globaljaybird Might be tough going for Donovan at OKC. Durant and Westbrook will be free agents within the next year or two

  • @Lulufulu Crafty GMs get players on multi-year deals then almost immediately restructure them to allow for more cap room. Shrewd? Yeah sure, but not immoral or illegal. If he can’t do this, maybe he should, like I mentioned, just give himself the axe!!

  • Donovan appears to be leaving for OKC. Sounds like he is in closing negotiations with the Thunder.

I’ve got my waders and bacterial gloves on today, ready to dig out Stone for sure from the toasty Gator can. He may not be quite the catch Brown is… but at least he offers up more of the kind of skills we need at the 3 if we don’t land Brown.

Billy Donovan is the coach the Thunder need to keep Kevin Durant in Oklahoma City

  • @globaljaybird

…and Houston has Howard and Harden and Miami has Bosch and Wade and Cleveland has LeBron, Love and Kyrie and Portland has Aldridge and Lillard and Golden state has Curry and Thompson and Memphis has Gasol and Randolph and the Clipper have Griffin and Paul and San Antonio has Duncan and Parker and Ginobili and Leonard…every team in the NBA has a t least 2 super capable players, it is the other players that make it a Championship caliber team. Asks Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell… one had the complimentary players and has boatload of rings (11) , the other did not and has only 2.

I agree that the Thunder COULD be a hell of a team but currently it is not… Just my opinion.

  • @drgnslayr Nice posts. Unfortunately, early indications are that Donovan’s players are staying committed to UF. That could very easily change depending on who the new coach is. There may even be a bit of a domino affect. At any rate, Self has been a master at exploiting the coaching carousel to pick up late talent. Tyshawn, X Henry, and Withey to name a few. Definitely worth watching.

  • @konkeyDong

Probably a bigger domino in the coaching ranks now that the desirable Florida HC job is open…it’s going to be an interesting Summer…

  • I see KUSports mentioned how Florida’s players might be reconsidering, but they left off Keith Stone from the list. Does Bill Self have strings over that site? I can understand not wanting to mention Stone while hot on the trail of Tevin Mack.

  • @drgnslayr Curious, where did you see that we were interested in Stone? I assume Keith Stone the basketball player, and not Keith Stone from the beer commercial.

  • @HighEliteMajor

There is nothing saying we are… just on KUSports where Florida players might be looking elsewhere and it didn’t mention Stone. Why wouldn’t we be interested in Stone? He is more the prolific 3 than Mack.

But I do see Mack continuing to add inches. He looks like he has 2 to 3 inches of growth left in his bones… making him the next version of Perry Ellis.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

The interesting thing about every team you mentioned is that they all made the playoffs this year - except Miami who has a coach with two championship rings and OKC, who has a coach with 0 rings and a general belief in the NBA that he just isn’t a creative enough offensive mind to really take advantage of the talent he has had at his disposal.

  • @justanotherfan

The teams I mentioned are the ones that came to mind, first and mostly because I am watching the NBA playoffs. However, if you go down the list of all the teams in the NBA, just about every single one has at least a couple of superior players; they have to…otherwise they would not win a single game and they all do.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Superior players, yes. Stars, no. Stars are what separates the best teams. And stars on the magnitude of Durant and Westbrook (two of the best 7 players in the league) are hard to come by.
