ELLIS A NO PLAY, UNIFORMS SUCK, NEXT

  • @DCHawker our other bigs will do better than a half ass Perry. Perry was just starting to show his ups, I think it’s a good decision. Perry is so mental too.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Well, let’s just say that our other bigs should be to contribute more than a less than fully healthy or tentative Perry. 😉 And, as noted by someone in the TCU thread, read the scouting report on Ziegler - last game, we (mostly BG) let him drive to the basket almost every time he touched the ball.

  • @DCHawker Ziegler is getting better all the time. Let’s hope BG is playing inspired!❤💙

  • @ZIG

I am not sure I understand your comment. Are you saying that Coach Self should play Ellis even if he is not at 100% strength? For all practical purposes, the conference tournament games as far as KU is concerned, are pretty meaningless when compared to the NCAA Tournament. If KU loses to TCU without Perry, the NCAA seeding committee would take that into consideration (that is the current policy) provide he is available for the Tournament. Worst case, KU drops to a #3 seed, is that so bad compared to giving your star player additional time to recover? I don’t think so. In any case, even without Perry, KU should beat TCU, although TCU is trying to play itself into the tournament and will be heavily motivated. If KU plays without Perry and loses, it would not bother me that much as it would give our players additional rest and preparation time for the games that actually count.

  • The thing with Ziegler is scouting report says he couldn’t make a 3 if the basket was 10 feet wide. Seriously yet he scored 12 and 20 against KU this year. He’s gotten double figures in 7 of 8 games. I don’t see any reason to get within 3 feet of him if he gets the ball on the perimeter. He makes a shot out there, live with it but he makes his killing driving and making layups. It will drive me absolutely bonkers if he gets easy shots inside today, there’s no excuse for it.

  • @BeddieKU23 if he drives, why is BG on him?

  • @BeddieKU23 Yes! The key is for our perimeter guys to recognize that - not rocket science…

  • BG owes this team to work his butt off after last game. Jmo!

  • @DCHawker

I would think BG would cover Williams when in the game or Parrish. Whoever is covering Zeigler is waisting his time outside. Drag off and seal if he attempts to drive, we have to clog the lane as much as possible today without Ellis. Rebounding also becomes a huge problem today as our next best rebounder is Oubre…

  • Baylor/WVU foul happy fest so far. 23 fouls and counting in the first half…

  • @BeddieKU23 Agree wholeheartedly - just not how we did it last game - BG was matched on Ziegler much of the time he was in, played him close on the perimeter and Ziegler just blew by on a handful of occasions.

  • @DCHawker

And that goes to tell you the maturity that BG still has to go through as a player, especially on Defense. If you can’t follow a simple Scouting Report telling you this guy can’t make a shot outside the FT line why would you guard him like he can. Honestly if Self was a more open defensive minded coach you go zone because they can’t hit shots outside with any regularity. Rebounding is still a factor when you zone but if you neutralize their attack game you can live with rebounds

  • I like the uniforms - they have a Jayhawk on the shorts. Perry, take all the time you want …this week. BTW, is it sacrilege to call WSU …KU Jr.?

  • @jaybate-1.0 said:

    so you thug

    Sounds like Bill’s Illinois days

  • @jaybate-1.0 I thought you were talking about huggie.

  • I like the uniforms.

I like that Perry isn’t playing.

I like that we are playing against a team that fouls the crap out of you.

I like that Hunter is going to be forced to play more minutes.

All of these things should help in March (except the uniforms).

  • @joeloveshawks thought it was going to be a dr Seuss verse!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I wish I was that smart.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Geez what a BS call when that Baylor player bounced his chin off the WVU player’s shoulder.

  • If Perry’s able to play, he should play. It’s that simple. He shouldn’t be held out with the idea that we can win without him. He should be held out if he isn’t healthy enough to play.

But I think that analysis isn’t as clear cut as it sounds. An MCL sprain is usually two weeks anyway. If you play early on something like this, you do risk re-injury. A tweak, a turn, etc. There’s weakness. A sprain is a partial tear.

I will be surprised if any game we play this weekend is not in doubt in the last 2-3 minutes regardless of our personnel. I would not be surprised if we lost today. I would not be surprised if we win three in a row. Damn near a perfect bell curve right now.

  • @HighEliteMajor I’m guessing he’s not healthy enough. Better not be the same crap as Embiid, he was never coming back. Also if the committee knows he’s coming back that helps us keep our seed. If we can’t beat TCU w/out Perry, we are in trouble.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Perry has practiced and from what Self and other players have said I highly doubt it is an Embiid situation. I think he is probably just still sore and there is no reason to push it. That is my completely ill-informed medical assessment.

  • @joeloveshawks so do you see patients cheaper than my dr?

  • @JayHawkFanToo What im simply saying is what HEM says well just above. That if Perry is healthy, he should play. He shouldn’t be held out because we think we can win w/out him, or to use it as a chance to get our bench more playing time. Coach Self says yesterday that’s hes 100% and that he’ll play. Yet today there going to sit him. Presumably to get an extra day of rest. I don’t agree w that. That’s how you lose games that you normally should win. And I don’t buy the argument that this is a meaningless tourney. BS. This tourney is a perfect tuneup for the next one and we should want to win them all. I don’t remember our 2008 team mailing in the conference tournament. We should have a burning desire to win EVERY game on our schedule. Not just the "important " ones.

When did he say that? What I read was, he had no pain Wednesday and if he has no pain Thursday he’ll play. So he had pain and he’s sitting.

Can you back up what you’re saying with a quote?

  • @ZIG

I must have missed where Coach Self indicated that Perry is 100%; TTBOMK, what he said is that IF he is 100% he will play.

In your own words, this is a “tuneup” game and by definition, those are the ones in which you try new/different things and not the ones you go balls to the wall to win. We know what Perry can do, it would help to know what Mickelson and Lucas can do under actual game conditions, wouldn’t you agree that it would help KU more to tweak the team now than at at the NCAA?
