Foster, Fran, Weber and Mushburger. BIG MONDAY.

Jamari had a better year last year when his shooting % was the highest on the team. Last year he screwed up before the game and it cost us. Maybe he’ll explode tonight.
-
This article by Jesse is a little bit shocking with the comments by Josh Gibson about tonight’s game.

@wrwlumpy We’re in a “can’t win” situation. If we lose in their game of the year, then the world would come to an end as we know it. If we win, it has to be by 30, or some will feel we suck. Oh, the nasty bite of great expectations.
-
I think we just want to survive tonight. Play well enough to survive and get ready for a juiced home game on Saturday and Tuesday. I don’t think it matters whether we win by 30, we didn’t win by 30 against them at home when they shot terribly so I don’t see any reason to believe we blow them out.
I do want to see a road effort worthy that we can hang our hats on for the last 2 weeks of the regular season. A loss is well bone-crushing and unacceptable, there’s no other way to put it. K-St is in turmoil and their best player is a couple games away from either being forced to leave or leaving on his own.
This game comes down to defense. If KU plays good defense and doesn’t let KSU score easy baskets we will win. I’m confident that no other factor will affect the outcome that hard nosed Self defense will do. That’s always been the staple for winning on the road, was punching them in the mouth on defense.
-
Ah, Defense. Something that is more important to Bill Self than any other coach, but the thing he must sacrifice to keep certain people in the game.
-
“Forget history, and think of a cornered wild animal.”
Outstanding sentence that pinpoints tonight’s battle!
-
Of all the players on this team, Josh Gibson deserved a better ending than this. I’ll take a player like him that cares about Team rather than Marcus Foster who cares about? He probably just said to himself, “I’m out of here anyway, why should I go to a stupid class. who cares, I’m not like Perry Ellis, I’m majoring in basketball.” Many good player’s have been suspended and have learned their lesson. but when your recidivism rate is higher than your caring about the team, then good riddance.
-
@wrwlumpy Interesting to think if that statement “Something that is more important to Bill Self than any other coach” is really true. I think Bill Self stresses defense, definitely. But more than any other coach? Interesting to think about. Interesting to think about what other coaches stress more than anything else as well.
-
@wrwlumpy Foster may have been hanging out with someone smoking pot or cutting class or something petty, but is obvious is POing old Liberace pretty badly to keep losing. Bet the house the little fart will play tonight though, Brucie only has to look far as Lon Kruger’s bench for his successor patiently waiting in the wings-Steve Henson. Has he ever won a game vs Kansas? One? If he doesn’t get another one pretty soon his mock funeral may be coming swifter than he knows.

@globaljaybird
Foster hasn’t been starting since coming back… I bet that changes tonight.
Last year he had 20 at home against us as we forgot to cover him all game. This year we guarded him well in the 1st half then he made contested 3’s 2nd half. It’s the whole key to stopping them. They don’t have a single reliable shooter on their team other than him. I know Self will focus a lot of his game plan on him. Let Gibson get his, he usually does but if Foster is cut off so is the team.
-
Sounds like Cliff is doing better than we thought.
-
This whole time I was trying to figure out who Josh Gibson was!! Ahh, Thomas Gipson. And yea I feel sorry for him, he’s improved a lot over the past 4 years.
@KUSTEVE I don’t expect us to win by 30. But what I don’t want to see is our Jekyll/Hyde game. I know we’re better than some of the showings, halves we’ve had when we lay eggs (18 point first half vs Baylor, 21 pt second half OSU in the L). Or at least I think we are better than those examples!
BTW: Vegas has us around 5 or 5.5 pt favorite now. I’d take a 5 pt win in the Hawk’tagon.
-
Sorry, Josh was the Babe Ruth of the Negro League’s Kansas City Monarchs.
-
The number posted earlier were from the small books and the opening number really does not mean much anyway as it often changes quickly; the main sites opened at 5-1/2 and the consensus is not at 5 which seem reasonable.
-
This should be a game where we see Alexander and Gipson mix it up hard in the paint. My fear is that Gipson will quickly get Alexander in foul trouble because all teams that scout us know we don’t practice fakes, and for that reason, we are the easiest team to draw fouls on using any kind of fake.
I feel like this is the key match up. The Kitties won’t have anything if Gipson isn’t productive and playing most of this game.
If it doesn’t end up being a match up between Alexander and Gipson, it will be Lucas and Gipson.
I’m as positive that Lucas could have a break out game as much as Alexander could. Sometimes Lucas can be effective. He does the best job of any of our bigs when it comes to sealing off in the post area.

@drgnslayr niño Williams is no slouch.

Bob Knight, is that you? Kidding aside. Why do we fall for the fake so often? And under utilize it?
-
I laughed when Devonte was asked what he said to Foster to get a taunting T. One of the board rats said “I just told him, your coach plays piano in Vegas.”
-
Bravo in knowing how to type “niño!” I had to copy/paste it to do it! Yeah… he is no slouch. And I appreciate his game, He’s built like I was and he likes to use his body. He gets my “thumbs up.”
Finally someone called me out. Ha. I know not everyone in here agrees with me… but I remain a diehard Knight fan forever. Not that he needed to seal the deal, but when he blasted Calipari a few years ago it did add frosting to the cake. I’m curious as all heck what words will come out of his mouth if Calipari wins it all this year and goes undefeated. Let’s see… when was the last time that happened? Ha… Then Calipari will be merged with Knight forever in the history books. I know Knight will puke his guts out on that one!
I have no idea why our kids are not taught about shot fakes. It would be an easy way for us to pick up a 10 point advantage on every game from here on out. If they know them then they are less likely to fall for them and foul, and they can also use them to draw fouls. This is the one tweak that could make a huge difference in the win column from here on out!
If we, by chance, get stuck playing Kentucky again, the shot fake is our ONLY salvation! And that would be the time to use them. Kentucky would think they are going to get a record high shot blocks in March Madness history, and they will, unless we use the fake. Then we could even get Kentucky in foul trouble!
Ha! A closet piano player!

@Crimsonorblue22 Upvote for the squiggly line above the n in Nino. How’d you do that?
-
…except his name is Nino not “Niño” which in Spanish means boy and it is used sometimes as nickname, as in Fernando “El Niño” Torrez, a famous Spanish soccer player that started his career very young and acquired that nickname because of his youthful looks, but is is not a proper first name. Nino is originally Italian and short for Antonino.
