Mikey to Memphis

  • JJ Taylor and Mikey to Memphis. Penny dropped some cash and tried hard for those

  • Nobody really wanted Mikey anymore. Mikey always played lesser competition going to the AAC a no brainer for him

  • Won’t have to play Houston or Cincy since they coming over here he goes there to play Trash teams and hope he ball out. I’m a fan tho all the skills there

  • Rather Elmarko anyway so im fine with it

  • Both committing on the visit is crazy but Mikey couldn’t do it for us

  • Dodging the proverbial bullet as they like to say

Even Slater said this on twitter I was laughing.

I’m so glad Mikey went to Memphis. I think it would’ve been a s***show if he had come here.

  • Question. Why is it when a player we recruited and they choose another school , people feel the need to start in on them like the Bask Brothers.?- – -when we are recruiting them oh they bunch of studs and we woul love to have them and then BAM it’s like oh we don’t really need he -OR he is over rated - -OR he would probably cause problems we don’t need that. - pretty funny stuff.

17-18 yr old kids have a right to choose or change their mind - if he is good - -he is good - question is whwn they pick another school how does a kid go from very talented game changer - to an out cast trouble maker ?

I will always say when KU misses. Kendall Brown was a miss. All the stuff about Mikey is coming from non-KU people. Even Bossi said Mikey talent wise would be a no brainer but the whole mess attached to him makes it more difficult. Fact is only Memphis really wanted him.

  • @jayballer67

Valid question. Mikey is good, no concern there. KU may have found the better fit and better player in the end (Elmarko) both in the way he plays the game and his character off the court. I think its valid to point those things out while not diminishing Mikey at all.

It’s clear Mikey has bigger goals then college and his social media/puma deal with his entourage make it a difficult deal for any school to navigate.

My question back is why didn’t any other big named school go after Mikey? He clearly is talented enough to play at any school and yet KU was the biggest school that even tried. That tells you a lot.

Recruiting services have more or less said the Mikey camp played some games. He’s a distraction & I think KU ultimately dodged that from their program. Perhaps he will be a positive to Memphis, though risky.

Chose not to deal with it is how I’d put it. Public timeline matches that as well.

Overall Bossi posted some great insights about KU’s recruiting this cycle. I realize not everyone can/wants to pay of course. The one we will never really know on is Taison Chatman. Sounds like people involved with him were staunchly anti-KU. I like his game a lot though, I have to remember to track how he does at Ohio State.

  • @BShark

Yeah seemed like Chatman liked KU but he was radio silent about them after visiting.

Liked his playmaking/shooting ability for sure. Unsure whether we missed on him in the end.

I have to agree with you on Jackson no doubt about that. - -Agree about the distraction - -we learned enough about those kinds of things with Billy And Diallo, seems like every year there is always something.

I don’t blame Mikey for having goals bigger goals then College - -why not ? - strive to get the best of what you want right ?- -But I do understand where your coming from like you said and valid why was KU the only Big name School. Obviously it’s because of the distractions you mentioned. - -Yet the why did KU offer ? - -they were aware of all the distractions that came with Mikey & Puma ? - So my question with that is - KU was aware but yet they offered anyways - -just sayin

Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t meaning you or BShark when I posed the question - but just really still don’t know again why some feel the need to throw personal insults at a kid or talk shade on a kid if we miss out on him after recruiting him and he decides he is going else where - -just seems kind of childish. - Like I said if he was a talented kid before then he is STILL a talented kid AFTER he goes to another school , he doesn’t go from talented to really over rated. lol. - Have a great day my friend

  • There’s zero doubt the staff wanted Mikey and really liked him. But the board is the board and when a player higher up wants the spot then you take him. Happens more often in football but this was the same deal. Especially now with one less scholarship to work with next year. Mikey didn’t have a spot among our 12.

  • Yeah insulting the kid is never the move @jayballer67

@FarmerJayhawk exactly, you can’t turn down a guy like Elmarko.

Understand buddy - -understand for sure, and trust not upset about Jackson - -my point more was aimed about the change of attitude about the kid which BShark and Betty detailed 100% o point. - not upset really about people hear but just overall about the situation reading various people

Ah yeah there will always be some “well he sucks, we didn’t want him anyway” in recruiting. Comes with the territory. Thankfully KU fans aren’t nearly as bad as some. KSU fans are really bad about it. Any kid that picks them is humble, hardworking, and does things the right way. Anybody who doesn’t is an entitled diva who is only chasing a paycheck

Lol , boy are you ever so right there- -Especially in football, Classic case this yr who is the big stud kid from here and he committed to KSU and then de-committed to them and committed to Norte Dame ? - -perfect example started talking about all kinds of crazy things - -I know buddy

The kid is a star, and has incredible skills. I wish the best for him. However, I’m relieved he won’t be playing for us in his 1 year of college basketball before he goes to the NBA. I kept thinking how is Mikey and his 2 million Instagram and celebrity followers going to take it when Bill sits him on the bench for not playing defense? Are LeBron or KD going to speak out questioning Coach’s decisions? Hell, KD demanded the Nets fire their coach and they did! And how teachable is a multi-millionaire kid who is basically going to be playing out the string for a year before he goes to the NBA? What if Elmarko comes in and beats him out ( similar to DD and Quentin Grimes ), are we going to hear criticism about Coach from NBA players, and those 2 million followers?

Coach is the best in the business. Premium, elite coach. Always has been- always will be. But that doesn’t mean he’s easy to play for. He rides players all the time. Most of the time, it’s very effective. We’ve seen him bench people 100 times- we’ve seen him play lesser athletic players over better athletes (Mitch) because of the buy in by the player. Is a millionaire kid going to give it his all, bleed crimson and blue for KU - even when the coach is yelling at him, benching him, and messing with him for the 1 year he will be in college?

Like I said, I wish Mikey the best. I hope it works out for him better than some of the other stars Penny has signed. I think it had the potential to be a disaster if he signed here- feel free to disagree.

No I understand --again my biggest beef on this is how quickly a so called fan of a school turns on certain players/recruits when that recruit decides he isn’t choosing our School

  • @Jethro I thought Grimes got plenty of run. He just pussed out on KU.
