SOONER FAN FOR A NIGHT

@KUSTEVE osu, barf!

I can’t get over the arrogant schmuck on the OU bench, and his counterpart on the gridiron in the 1980’s and his band of underachievers to ever want to cheer for OU. I know they’ve gone on a classier hiring track since the other cheating schmuck left, but still…
-
@KUSTEVE what do you think? Looks like a track meet, no whistles!!

Bit of cheering trivia …
In the early 70’s Austin Peay University recruited a noted playground/street player named James “the Fly” Williams who went to score 51 points twice in his freshman season and set a number of scoring records and moved under the then hardship rule to the pros after his sophomore year.
Anyway, during his playing day there, the students would chant…The “Fly” is open, let’s go Peay…cleverest cheer ever.
And that is your bit of trivia for the day.
P.S. You can guess how “Peay” is pronounced…

Great to have the rest of the psuedo-Big 12 teams beating up on each other, but we need to take advantage of this blood-letting and take care of our own business to get this #11 finalized as soon as possible.
-
OK. OU did its part and beat ISU 94-83. OU shot 6-6 from FT line and ISU 7-14; OU had 12 fouls and ISU14 or 26 combined; they combined for 132 shots…why don’t we get those refs?
OSU beat Baylor at Baylor by 9 and the teams combined for 104 shots and 38 fouls; what a difference in pace. What will Ken Pomeroy say, he had OU as the top ranked team and Baylor second ahead of KU and way ahead of Oklahoma State.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Enjoyed it so much, I fell asleep…lol. Ok, the world is right. Two game lead…
-
@KUSTEVE no fun!

Oklahoma on a 5 game winning streak and they are starting to play a little bit of defense. The Pre - Season pick is starting to look scary, though we still win the Conference if we take care of the road at TT and K-State.
-
If OU hadn’t given that game away to K-State earlier in the season, this would be a very complicated race right now because we still have a trip to Norman coming up.
Right now, I have the Big 12 getting 7 teams into the dance (everyone but KSU, Tech and TCU). TCU makes the NIT to give them a little postseason action.
The strength of the Big 12 will help everyone get a +1 when it comes to seeding. No league is tougher top to bottom, night in and night out. I could see 5 Big 12 teams getting top 5 seeds.

Here is a cogent summation of the Big 12 race from the LJW.

Is it possible that we drop 3 more games… OU, ISU and WVU just drop 1 more game, and OSU and Baylor win out?
Ha… let’s see… Kansas wins #11 and shares it with 5 other teams!
But seriously…
It looks like winning the B12 this year will mean no more than 4 losses.
We can lose 2 more games and still win #11… either single-handed or in a tie.
What are the chances one of OU, ISU and WVU wins out?
WVU - I find it very unlikely WVU wins out because they still have to come to AFH, and they will do that after they thrash us in Morgantown. This may end up being our most amped-up game in AFH this year. Even if they did beat us at home… they also need to win in other tough away games… let’s see… ISU, OSU and Baylor.
ISU - They have a tough schedule ahead… road games with OSU, UT, KSU and TCU. And there could be an upset at home… facing WVU, Baylor and OU. I think OU really has their number.
OU - Has the easiest path to going undefeated from here on out. And they have won 5 in a row! Their path is away games to KSU, TT and ISU. Home games are UT, TCU and Kansas. Except for their one tough road game ahead at ISU, OU has a very possible win out scenario. And I feel they are capable of beating ISU away, if things go right. They match up pretty well against the Clones.
I don’t see us winning in Norman or at West Virginia. Those are our 2 almost certain losses. Lets say we survive tonight at TT… (we better or we are toast!). We have away games at WVU, KSU and OU. We have home games with Baylor, TCU, UT and WVU.
If we play like a bunch of kiddy freshmen moving forward, there is no way we win #11. These guys are going to have to step up now or they will go down in history as the team that blew it for Self and Kansas, concerning the consecutive conference titles streak. We are closing in on Wooden quickly… but these guys are going to have to step up and become men.
-
@drgnslayr Great break down! That last game of the regular season in Norman could be HUGE. I still think ISU holds serve and does us a favor with OU at home. And like you outlined, ISU has a monster road in front of them so any wins they pull off at home are a bonus for us.
I think we get WVU at least once doing them in.
OSU could also possibly win out to finish with 5 losses, making things interesting. They still have to play at WVU but other than that it is home games, at TCU and at Tech.
-
I just painted a path for us with two losses to win it. Obviously… there is the possibility of a 5-loss champ or champs. But that opens up so many possibilities. I can’t type that fast!
Let’s not go there. We need this team to focus on winning every single game.
-
OSU has 2 games with WVU and 1 against ISU, also 2 against TCU and 1 against TTU, both upset minded teams. Highly unlikely that they go unbeaten.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yeah but it is where those games take place that gives them the chance. Big 12 teams are just really struggling to win on the road. Plus OSU is playing really well right now. No lead is safe with them. They did the same thing to Baylor that they did to us.
-
Do you think they win at WVU? It is possible but IMHO not likely…
-
@JayHawkFanToo I think they have an advantage in playing them at home first. They get to practice breaking that press at home where the press will not be as effective. OU pretty much proved that the right formula can trounce WVU home or away. So if they are able to win easily at home I think it could transfer to an easy win away as well.
-
I find it interesting that most posters believe that KU will surely lose at WVU but OSU can win…hmmm…
-
@JayHawkFanToo I think we CAN win at WVU…it won’t be a major surprise to me if we do win…but I don’t expect it. Maybe people are weighting the fact that we get everyone’s best emotional shot in their place…more so than the other visiting teams. Also, emotion and energy help a team that plays the way WVU does.
-
@Hawk8086 that and wv has been going down hill.
-
I think it has to do with the fact that 1) we haven’t dealt with pressure well. 2) we have tended to blow leads easily and if WVU forces to’s at high rate I have a hard time believing we will respond positively. 3) and the biggest factor of them all is this game is 2 days after Baylor on the road with all that travel. The time we will have to truly prepare for the pace of the game is extremely limited. Now West Virginia has come back down to earth and the better teams have exploited the press. I watched Baylor trounce them on their gym. But this isn’t Baylor, its a Big Monday game and they will have their crowd rocking with us in town. I’m optimisitc we can win but I think a lot of fans just believe because its on the road and the factors I listed above to be what we think could be a loss.
