College GameDay History

  • KU will be featured for the second time this season College GameDay this Saturday in Waco.

Here is some history about the college basketball version of GameDay. ESPN began running College GameDay for basketball in January of 2005. The first game they did was Pitt at UConn. The second week was Texas at Kansas when Kansas spanked Texas by 25 points. The following year, Texas hosted GameDay for the KU game and returned the favor by spanking KU by 25 themselves.

Overall, KU has been part of 23 GameDay broadcasts which is good for 3rd all time behind Duke and North Carolina who are currently at 25 appearances each. These numbers do not include the final two weekends this season so all threeteams will go up by 1 over the next two weeks. Those are also the only 2 schools to have hosted GameDay more frequently than KU has with Duke and UNC currently at 11 times hosting, while KU has hosted 10 times including once this season. Duke will be at 12 after the March 5 game.

KU has an all time record of 16-7 when apart of GameDay which is the 3rd best winning percentage among schools with 5+ appearances. Syracuse is 5-1 all time and Florida is 7-2 all time on GameDay games. KU’s 16 wins are also the most wins by any school when involved with College GameDay in basketball. KU is also one of 3 schools, along with UNC and Kentucky to be involved in GameDay in consecutive weeks. In 2018, KU hosted West Virginia and went to Texas Tech the next week. Kentucky is the only school to be involved in consecutive weeks twice in 2017 and 2018. UNC was the first to do so in 2016.

6 schools have made double appearances on GameDay: Duke (25), UNC (25), Kansas (23), Kentucky (20), Michigan State (10), Texas (10).

It should be no surprise what the most frequent match up on College GameDay is as it’s Duke and UNC at 16 times after next week. Florida/Kentucky is the second most common match up at 8 times, while there are 3 match ups that have been featured 4 times each. Arizona/UCLA, Kansas/Kentucky, and Kansas/Texas. The KU/KSU game has hosted 3 times. This will be the 2nd time KU and Baylor have played on GameDay and Baylor’s 3rd appearance overall and are 0-2 in their first two appearances.

Here’s the list of KU’s College GameDay appearances:

  • Wow, what a weak crowd for Gameday at Baylor.

  • Hate to be a negative Nelly but I think we very easily get beat tonight. - -That’s not a knock on the guys , just feel we walking into a lion’s den - -we sure the hell not gonna shoot the ball like we did the last time out. - our to’s still a concern - plus if they happen to have Cryer and Flagger draining 3’s-- If we do - -we do.- -If we can play solid have a good shot pulling off the W - -just get this feel - they gonna come out pumped & looking for pay back - -

  • ESPN just ran a banner that said Baylor is 35-8 against us. In men’s basketball.

  • @jayballer67 If Cryer plays, he’ll be far below 100%. Flagler has also been less than 100% as well

My memory must not be great. Feel like I’d remember 35 losses to Baylor!!

If you like that, the ESPN website previewing the game says: “The teams square off for the 10th time this season in Big 12 play.”

You missed the first 9 games this season? Whaddya got, dementia?

  • According to Sports-reference.com, We are 35-7 against Baylor since 1949-50.

Extra tidbit of (traumatic) trivia from that source: Since 1949-50, KU has played 68 schools only once, and KU is 63-5 against those. The five include Bucknell, N Iowa, and VCU.

I know but even below and flagger has proved since he has been back still really dangerous

  • @Jethro That might include Womens BB but I doubt that it is still correct

  • Remy’s dressed out like he’s available tonight and going through pregame warm shooting with everyone else.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 i missed this thread the first time around i think. Nice write up.
