KU/SEC challenge to change format...

  • Under the new format, all the games will be played in one day and it would take place later in the season.

If the challenge would be played, say this weekend, does any team from the SEC other than Kentucky win a game?

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Clearly, the SEC wants to limit its PR embarrassment that comes with public spankings.

  • Just because I live near LSU, I am a little bit in touch with that team. They’re pretty decent and if not for several late game collapses, would most likely be ranked. Obviously it depends on who’d they play and where.

Now, if it happens, I want KU-LSU, in Baton Rouge!!! I know @brooksmd would want that as well.

  • @wissoxfan83 Lsu has some pretty good recruits for next year, Simmons kid? We should all head down there and stay w/you guys, a week maybe!!!

  • 10 inter-conference games in one day…it should make for one heck of a game day!!!

  • I like the change. I have never like that this challenge has been so spread out. I have always thought it should be over no more than 2 or 3 days. Although, I guess it will be harder to televise all the games now…

  • @wissoxfan83 Just waiting for the announcement.

@Crimsonorblue22 All would be welcome here but I’m about 1 1/2 hrs away while Wissox is across the street. 😃

  • The one major downfall to Kentucky basketball… they play in a dud conference!

They may go on to another NC this year (or not)… regardless… most of their season was boring basketball. I was hard up to watch hoops tonight and I quit watching the UK/MU game. Boring!

While I was watching… before a commercial break it showed MU fans all excited to be on TV. One fan had the nerve to hold up his index finger and shake it. I guess he isn’t a good math student. #1? Seriously? #1 at what? Missouri basketball has definitely fallen off the planet since leaving the Big 12. Poor little tigers!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I don’t know if my wife will want all of my virtual friends hanging out in our house!

  • @drgnslayr The kid from Missouri probably thought he was giving the camera the bird but forgot which finger to hold up!

  • @wissoxfan83 Tents on the lawn and they can shower with the garden hose. Oh and a porta-potty at the curb.

  • I love the format change it will make for an exciting day of basketball. Start in the AM and show all of the games back to back . I can definitely dig 20 straight hours of college hoops!! I like the fact that we will be more seasoned at that point, instead of having to play when we aren’t firing on all cylinders. I think the Champions Classic should be in December too.

  • @drgnslayr

    • No. 1 meth producing state in the country; more than all other states combined.
    • No. 1 in “Juice Bars.”
    • No. 1 in “juice Bars” billboards per mile.
    • No. 1 in over 50 year old, single wide trailers used as primary residence.

    And…drum roll…

    • No. 1 / longest active basketball program without a Final Four appearance. Ba-dum-TSH!!!

Probably the most fascinating stat that I have ever come across is that Northwestern is the only Power 5 conference member that has never been to the NCAA tournament. Not only that, Northwestern was one of only a handful of D1 schools to have never won 20 games in a season until 2009. I am baffled by how poorly Northwestern has done in basketball in their history. You would figure that just by dumb luck they would stumble into the tournament once every 15-20 years. Heck, the last time Northwestern finished the conference season above .500 man hadn’t yet walked on the moon.

  • @justanotherfan It is amazing they haven’t ever been to the dance. They’ve had some decent chances in recent years, but have had some really bad luck with injuries taking several key players out for the season. They’ve had good coaches, Ricky Birdsong had them on the upswing I think when he was murdered. Chris Collins may have what it takes too. Whenever it happens there’ll be some amazing celebration in Evanston.

@wissoxfan83 tell your wife she doesn’t have anything to worry about, none of us are from mizzery! When we arrive, we won’t be virtual anymore. We’ll be alive and real and probably hungry and thirsty.

I’d love to take you out to your favorite cajun restaurant the first night on me. Hopefully, one of your many guest rooms will have a temperpedic mattress cuz it really helps my back. I’m pretty low maintenance tho…you don’t have to wash my linens every day cuz that wastes water.

    Lookin forward to it!

  • @HawkInMizery

“I love the format change it will make for an exciting day of basketball.”

I like that aspect, but not sure I like it happening right in the middle of Big 12 conference play.

It seems like a big distraction from our conference battles. It matters less in the SEC. Most of the teams don’t challenge for a conference title.

  • @justanotherfan Rex Walters might have lifted Northwestern to the tournament if he stayed. I’m so happy he did not. That Northwestern fact is astonishing since they are deep in the web of Chicagoland. Perhaps a bastion of academic-first athletics at a high level?

  • @KJD

No doubt that Northwestern emphasizes academics since it is one of the top ranked schools in the country, 13th according to this well know publication.

  • @JayHawkFanToo That link looks like a strong lacrosse league. Competitive in sculling too.

  • @drgnslayr That’s true, maybe this should be on the last weekend of the non-con season? I always thought it was silly to have it spread out over a couple days.

  • @KJD

Northwestern is a high academic school, but Vanderbilt and Stanford are also strong academic institutions and they have not only been to the tournament, but done well on occasion. The fact that they haven’t finished with a winning conference record in almost 50 years makes it much easier to believe they haven’t been to the dance, but it’s still shocking.
