Okay… we knew it was coming.
Coach has tightened down the minutes and it looks like down to 6 1/2 players, with Mitch being the 1/2.
Is this just because we had 11 days off and our most-productive players need game PT? Or is this a look at what is to come this season?
Coach mentioned the lack of productivity from the bench… but how can you count it when players only receive a few minutes… not enough to get into a flow.
We all saw how frustrated Joseph was. And there must be some frustration with JaCol.
It is looking like there is a small gap for KJ to gain some minutes.
Didn’t most of us think we have a very deep bench? Do we still think that? I have little doubt that if some of these guys suddenly landed more minutes (probably because of an injury), he will start showing improvement. But is there a huge separation of skills?
Dajuan receives more minutes than Remy… the guy bringing in all the hype cred. Will that change over the year? I don’t think so. I think Dajuan is clearly showing superiority out front. His defense is starting to remind me of a scrappy Marcus. And he keeps the ball from sticking on offense. I am liking how Remy is being pushed into playing tougher D. He needs it badly and will be a key for this team moving forward… if we can get solid D out of him and Dajuan, we stand to go far this year.

Yup, Tis the season! Pretty much one more game for Self to give others some PT before conference play, right? That means Joseph Y has little time to find out how he fits in. The problem of course is that Self is trying to squeeze him into the PG role most times, and he’s not really a PG, yet. Same with Remy, really, but he gets the PT. Pettiford would be in the mix, so that’d be 7 1/2. As for JCL, as I whined about in the game thread, he simply doesn’t need to see the floor. Send him packing. Give that time to KJ and let him run wild like a gazelle on steroids!!!

I’m not a basketball coach, and dang sure not a HOF’r coach! I question things, but ultimately believe Self knows what he is doing. I read where all the bench receives PT in practice mixed with the A team. That must be the place where guys really earn their actual game PT. Even though Nevada hung around for some of this game, I never considered them a real threat. So we didn’t have a necessity to run our top guys for 30+ minutes except for the fact that they all needed to knock off the rust. When Bobby returns, if he is healthy, I think he will add another “1/2” to my formula, so we actually run 7 deep in a game, with Bobby and Mitch equaling 1. Our bench beyond that is our backup if someone gets hurt.
Anyone seeing a different perspective? Someone breaking through later this season?

That’s cool. This team could really use a Raef LaFrentz

As long as 1-4 is playing as well as they are, no reason to go very deep into the bench except in garbage time. I still think JCL and Yes will win us a game or two we shouldn’t win in conference. Either can come off the bench and give you 9 in a hurry and change the game. The 5 spot will struggle all year. Dave and Mitch are what they are at this point.
That being said this team has another gear they haven’t really hit yet. We haven’t had a game where Remy, Och, Braun, and Dave all play well. Shoot, we haven’t had many where 3 of them play well. When they do, engage Joe Brady they can’t f***** stop us dot gif*

I just don’t think you bring in JCL if you don’t expect him to be on the floor. He’ll get every opportunity if and when he’s healthy to crack the rotation.

Rankings/power rankings don’t mean that much to me but I was kind of curious reading CBS’ power rankings. They have us 10th, which of course is nice, but I’m kind of used to higher. Especially when I see Providence above us, and Colorado St directly below us. There’s some good teams ahead of us, the usual suspects like Baylor, Duke, Gonzaga, some new blood like USC (no argument there) and ISU. I don’t watch many teams besides ours so I’ll have to trust the experts.

JCL doesn’t really look like he fits in too be honest. He’s shot hunting when he gets in. Perhaps there will be a game we need that from him. So far the bench doesn’t have any continuity especially without bobby

@BeddieKU23 wasn’t too long ago our bench was a bright spot with production from Zach Bobby Mitch KJ and Yes
-
@approxinfinity hard for there to be any bench continuity if they never play.
