Darryn Peterson

@drgnslayr There's clearly something lacking in connection on defense when he's out there despite being a fine individual defender. I also wonder about the impact of our style of offense while he is playing on the overall stress it puts on defenses. Are we easier to guard physically when he is out there because there is so much less ball and player movement? Does the moving the ball from side to side and whipping it around and in and out actually tax the opposing team more than some two man game over and over until DP makes an incredible play? Not all DPs fault to be clear.
-
Chemistry. With all these new players, they need time to meld. Tough to do with him in and out of the lineup. fingers crossed for some consistency.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk by the time this group is all seniors they will be a well oiled machine
-
@nuleafjhawk this guy…
-
@approxinfinity I have to keep myself entertained

-
In the 4 games where DP was the leading scorer for Kansas, we are 1-3
-
@approxinfinity I'm not a math whiz, but maybe they should keep him on the bench
-
@nuleafjhawk Ya maybe
-
Theres no simple solution but to this point we have been a worse team when Darryn is on the floor. I think its too simple to put that on Darryn.
-
@approxinfinity I don't think it's a personal attack on him. He just hasn't spent enough time on the floor and the team doesn't mesh as well when he's in there. If he'd been playing from day one, no one would have thought to mention this.
-
There are also effort problems. Knowing DP is back makes the rest of the team play complacently. We just shrug our shoulders and watch as less athletic players drive right past us for easy layups, which we don't bother to contest.
-
@approxinfinity Not putting it all on Darryn , but just part of the overall problem, just like you said hard to avoid the fact we play worse when Darryn iss on the floor,, it all inner connects as when again Darryn is on the floor the other players just stand back , stand around and wait for Darryn to make a play-- not hid fault but it is what it is
-
Its hard not to feel like there is a coaching disconnect here. Are the guys standing around and watching Darryn in practice? Like wtf?
-
I mean, as we have all observed, these guys were playing with joy and cheering for each other. Motivation didnt seem to be an issue, at least not in terms of what the guys are capable of.
-
I've felt the disconnect since the Natty. We had a long history of established level of play under Self for which to compare. Things have changed the last couple years.
-
What I'd like to see from our guys... they play TURNED UP when Darryn is on the floor! Be a part of the "highlight reel" not just trying to watch it from the front row.
Darryn isn't taking possession of the team. It's not just his team... it's everyone's team! Start playing like it!
And for Christ's sake... when the ball leaves the shooters hand, leave then to go get the rebound! Put your body on a player and seal the boards! It's not friggin' rocket science. I learned how to do this in biddy basketball a million light years ago!
-
I still think this team has a very high ceiling with DP, it’s starts with the defense and rebounding. Some of it is as simple as guys standing and watching him. He has to take some pride in the defense end because he doesn’t help much or at all most the time.
-
@kjayhawks2.0 But when he does play D, his hands are so quick. The potential for steals are out there.
-
Alright! Great start!
-
DP was much better on the defensive side tonight, saw him getting steals, blocks and in position much more often. He isnt gonna need to drop 30 to keep us in the game if he continues to improve on that end. Same stuff I tell my 5th graders you can’t have one guy doing his own thing on defense. Everyone has to be working as a unit.
