I don't know if this has anything to do with DP and his issue... but I just needed an excuse to post on one of my favorites. I do believe, to the most part, Wilt was spot on.

@drgnslayr I have a weird obsession with Wilt. His basketball stats are not only beyond compare, they're practically inconceivable. He was a freak. Not just basketball, either. He was a freak athlete and excelled at whatever he tried. If he said that they (NBA players) were over-training he was probably right. After all, he still holds 72 NBA records 52 years after he retired.

Or maybe Wilt was the outlier beyond all outliers and physically gifted in a way others have to train harder to even come close to.

That said it makes total sense than overtraining could cause DPs issues.

I find it highly likely DP has overtrained. I know I am going against the grain here because everyone wants to see him dominate and bring us to another title... but I've been impressed with his discipline to stick to a protocol. I'm certain it was that same discipline that brought him to this level in the first place.

It's easy for all of us to gripe at him and call him "oversensitive" to his situation. None of us had to endure what he did to get to this level, nor do we really comprehend what's at risk if he gets hurt.

The switching defense was really exposed with Hunter who couldn't get back to the paint even on pick and roll. We've seen so many mismatches where our guard and a big were the only players in the whole lane. TCU ran a switch screen four straight times last year and got four layups. It gets bad when the players hesitate just a split second on who has who and not again. Another thing is our peremiter offense which runs well on ball movement two or three passes without dribbling. Now teams blitz clear out to the line and the ball gets stuck.

@benshawks08 Oh I've seen many switching defenses in a lot of games

The pros run a version of the defense you just can't play man up all the time as they always find a way to get mismatches. You can't get around DP. He's so quick and long.

This last game gave me a little more hope. But they are still in November form as a team when he is on the court. He’s obviously great but the team is still figuring out how to play with him out there. And yes I know his 30 points were huge and clutch free throws to close regulation. But him pulling himself out in the way he did could have cost us that game. If he just commits to playing for 1 more minute we maybe even win in regulation.

We are still yet to see a game end with him on the floor.

DP played 32 minutes last night and hit some very clutch FTs. Everyone criticizing him should be on here singing his praises. I believe in accountability but also believe in a pat on the behind. Great game DP, let’s keep it going young fella!

@kjayhawks2.0 He had great game, no doubt. Maybe this has been addressed and I just missed it, but why wasn't he in the game in OT? There was certainly no guarantee that we would win without him. I just thought it was weird.

@nuleafjhawk I think they are limiting his minutes still and 32 is his season high so I’m not gonna complain any.

My goal was to do both. Hope that came through.

To me as long as DP continues to play some amount of minutes each game, we will continue to improve when he is on the floor.

@kjayhawks2.0 Yep. And a lot of it is on the other guys to figure out how to still be active and aggressive while DP has the ball in his hands.

What really impressed me about DP in our big home win... He was good to go in with a few seconds left, out of stride, and make the play that earned him 3 FTs, that he confidently nailed to put us into OT! Beyond that... beyond all his points... when he penetrated and kicked out to Melvin for the trey! We need more of that! I liked how Self mixed up his minutes so he could stay engaged in the game, but also the other players had to deal with him in and out several times. I think that helps the guys develop some consistency.

What I envision is DP and Melvin becoming a tandem! When one is driving, the other is getting open for a trey, or on a cut to the basket. What DP has to learn... he can create space from double and triple teaming by feeding open shooters. And Melvin.. he had 8 assists. He is our floor general, no question. so he needs to learn how to focus passes to DP. We need more off-ball screens for DP. Ultimately, the assists need to work down in layers, meaning... (example) Melvin penetrates, feeds DP coming off a screen, and DP feeds the big (from the pick and roll) for the slam. This should be easy to scheme. Teams are learning they have to deal with more than DP, and good luck when we create schemes involving multiple players that can score!

I think there is a role this year for Kohl because of DP. Kohl is a guy who understands how to be valuable off ball.

Just needs to make a couple 3s
