We need to just pay the man and move on
-
Our Athletic Dept is an absolute hot pile of dog doo right now, Where the hell is the organization in this dept? - running amuk.
We got this whole NCAA Scandal with our basketball - -then Jeff Long and his bone head moves. Like was said on the local spots broadcast this afternoon, anyone that know anything he was brought on to he could bring Les on Board. - Hell he didn’t even go through the entire Coaching Search from what they are saying.
Why in the hell didn’t they just pay Beaty the money and be done with it ? - -Now Beaty is on this will you prove to me that these analyst are NOT actually doing any Coaching now on the Coaching staff. Like they said hell if you want to actually get after it , probably every Coaching staff in America does the same thing, but Long and them was using this as show cause to fire Beaty, /so he turns around and says OK -turnabout is fair play - -what a fricken mess , should of just paid the guy.
Now our recruiting in Football & Basketball both is finding or going to find hard times with this crap looming over our heads - -what has happened in our Athletics? - -What - - is Badminton next?
-
Had a long chat this afternoon with a friend in the AD. Baty never liked Long from the jump and is desperate to make him look bad after Beaty’s business failed. Beaty knowingly committed L2 violations and broke the terms of his deal by promoting a non-certified coach to OC. Everyone knew Long targeted Miles from the jump. Beaty went all out to save his ass and he got burned, putting us years behind. Wait until KU’s lawyers depose the jokers.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Hope so, but it’s pretty darn hard to put a cat back in the bag.

Baty was a Zenger loyalty hire who can’t raise trees in the Amazon. Tends to happen when A) you insult small donors and call all the fans who didn’t show to everyone game “part of the problem.” Beaty’s only defense is he’s too incompetent to know the rules.
KU is less motivated to settle now because they believe their case is really strong and settling pulls money from available funds that will eventually maintain payroll if football is delayed. Someone at another AD told me they laid off their play by play guy because they’re down to only comms, marketing, and academics. Competition-adjacent folks are gonna take it in the shorts so we need every dime we can get.
-
I remember when baty said all those really stupid things!

Like they said on the local sports forum here in Topeka, Beaty HAS made long look like a fool for sure, Long we hope can save face. Can’t remember the name of the guy they had on yesterday ,Dam what’s his name? - -they have him on every week talking KU sports he is connected inside and he said that Beaty has succeeded in Making Long look really bad - -almost un-employable bad. Again wehsould of just paid this guy and been done with it. - -It was 3 million for GOD’S sake, now all this has done is drawn more media attention, making our sports programs and AD look even worse.
We DO NOT - - -let me repeat this - -we DO NOT need ANYMORE NEGATIVE pub from media ESPN and others for example, this should not of been an issue, pay the idiot and be done
-
Let’s see how the cross exam goes, Matt isn’t the sharpest. Zenger hire.
-
I personally think Beaty was arguably the worst hire CFB history. Flat out laughable on all front for anyone with a brain. Zenger did all he could to be as much of a failure as sweet Lou. I think Beaty was kinda a conman to honest but he was he here. Pay him and wash our hands with that joke. Having Les be smart in the recruiting game is such a big plus. All Beaty had to do was go hard on HS kids and our numbers would be almost full strength. He didn’t and the next guy has to deal with it for at least 2 or 3 years.
-
@kjayhawks Beaty wasn’t even Zenger’s worst football hire. Charlie Weis did far more damage to the program than Beaty ever did.
Beaty was never intended to be the guy to take KU over the top. He was hired to clean up the mess Weis left behind and did an admirable job of starting a process that was always a 2 recruiting cycles rebuild (8-10 years). Do not forget that Beaty had KU about 5 plays away from being a bowl team in 2018. Nicholls, KSU, and Texas were all winnable games for KU that season.
Beaty definitely deserved to be fired at that point, but to say he’s the worst hire ever is laughable when he made KU better than when he got here unlike his predecessor who dug KU into a hole so deep in just 3 years that KU’s still working on getting back to normal levels of scholarship players 6 years later.
Charlie Weis will ALWAYS be much worse hire than David Beaty ever was because Weis accomplished less and did far more long term damage to the program than Beaty did.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m laughing so hard I’m crying admirable? If we had Miles or any coach with a brain we were bowling that year. Let’s call 2 timeouts on a 4th and 1 in plus territory, then punt. Beaty did very little to increase the program. Went from winning 3 games and down 30 scholarship players in the Weis/Bowen final year to winning 3 games and being down 30 scholarship players 4 years later. I know you got a hard on for anyone that has been in or around Texas. But Beaty sucks and I won’t be convinced other wise. Sorry dude…

Please tell me where I said Beaty was a good coach? Not winning those 3 games in 2018 are why he was fired. You’re blind hatred of Beaty has made you completely blind to what an absolute shit show Charlie Weis was. David Beaty never referred to his team as a pile of crap as a recruiting pitch.
And no, KU was not 30 players in hole when Beaty left. If you want to claim those 30 players were after the 2018 seniors left and not factoring in the 2019 class, then fine. But that ignores that Beaty was 30 players in hole AFTER recruiting was done for his first season and KU had sub 60 recruited scholarship players his first season. KU was in the 70s last season for Miles first season so not even comparable there in that argument.
Keep telling yourself that Beaty is the source of KU’s current issues in football when the reality doesn’t match your story. Beaty’s not the one who gutted the program on arrival and went JuCo every season in recruiting, unlike Beaty.
-
I agree, Charlie was the worst! Both were awful
-
Wow look at the list of wonderful coaches we’ve been blessed to witness - Terry Allen, Turner Gill, Charlie Weis, david beaty, oh my! A veritable who’s who lost!!!
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 you said admirable, the definition of that word according to Webster is deserving respect and approval. He gets zero of both in my book. While yes he wasn’t the main culprit in our issues, he did very little to help. It would be the equivalent to me watching and drinking beers while my neighbors house burned down as a fireman. I didn’t start the fire but I certainly didn’t do my job to put it out even tho I was paid to. All the stupid SOB had to do was recruit HS players and the program is in way better shape regardless of wins.
-
We’ll be in the mid-70’s for scholarships next year, and likely until 2023 because Beaty got the classes so out of whack by mostly signing JuCo’s his last two classes. Shoot, we have to pull 10 forward each year just to stay at replacement levels because we blueshirted so many in 2018. Beaty took over a trash fire and threw dynamite on it.

He did recruit HS players his first 3 years. Year 3 was the only one where there were mass decommits due to who backed out including 2019 Biletnikoff winner JaMarr Chase. After those players decommitted, there weren’t enough HS players out there for Beaty to recruit so he was pretty much forced into recruiting JuCo’s in the 2018 class. Don’t let a convenient excuse get in the way of the reality of why Beaty went JuCo heavy in 2018 because that wasn’t original plan.

Half the 17 class were JuCo’s. If they didn’t have HS backups for guys that decomitted 6 months before NSD that’s sad.

@Texas-Hawk-10 excuses are like butts, everyone has one. He had at least 6 transfers of some kind every year he was here according to rivals. I respect the hell out of you but there isn’t any solid evidence of Beaty doing a lot hear, I’m sorry that just the way it is buddy.

And you’re never going to convince me that Beaty was a worse hire than Charlie Weis. What the hell did Charlie Weis actually do better than Beaty at Kansas?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 whoa never said anything about Weis being better. He’s slightly worse but both suck

You pretty strongly imply it by ignoring every single comparison I’ve made between the two and taking that as me having a hard on for Beaty because he’s from Texas while ignoring my actual points.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 because you said Beaty was admirable, if you said Weis was admirable. I’d said similar about him. They both are terrible head coaches. Close the book and let’s move on lol.

Again, you completely ignored the context of the comment because you are incapable of being objective about the situation.
Here’s the sentence for you for context.
He was hired to clean up the mess Weis left behind and did an admirable job of starting a process that was always a 2 recruiting cycles rebuild (8-10 years).
He made KU more competitive in his last season. Only 3 losses by 20+ points compared to 8 such losses in his first season. Charlie Weis had 6 20+ point losses in his last full season and both of his losses in 2014 before he was fired were 20+ point losses.
That’s the difference between Weis and Beaty, KU was noticeably better team by Beaty’s final season than they were during his first season. The same cannot be said of KU under Weis.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 so Beaty sucks a little a bit less, a loss is a loss. We were still down numerous scholarships after both. I’ll agree Weis crippled the place Beaty just didn’t do much to help.
-

Beaty did a lot more than you’re willing to give credit for. You constantly ignore the fact that KU was never going to fix the scholarship situation in one recruiting cycle because of how bad Weis messed it up. Not only did Weis get the total numbers in the garbage, he messed the balance in the class sizes as well. Go back and look at the senior class sizes under Beaty, it alternated between sub 15 senior classes and 25+ senior classes. Beaty did a pretty good job of fixing that issue. The next recruiting cycle was always going to be the one that fixed the total numbers. And you can go back and check my posts on this topic over the last 6 years and it has not changed. I have said for the last 6 years that it was going to take 2 full recruiting cycles (8-10 years) to completely fix the mess Charlie Weis left behind.
That’s ultimately why Beaty was hired, his $800k salary to start with is evidence of this, was to fix the scholarship situation and if he got wins that was a bonus. He took KU from a joke of a program to a program that was knocking on the doorstep of a bowl game. Despite my “hard on” for Beaty, I’ve never said he was the man to finish that job, and as soon as Miles finds a QB, he will be able to get KU back into bowl games.
-
It only took one year of Miles to truly see how bad Beaty was.

Heard Beaty is trying to open up Selfs ncaa file. Can’t read ️

I haven’t read it, but saw that headline as well. Yikes.

UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS Beaty’s lawyers plan to subpoena NCAA for documents on Self, KU basketball investigation BY JESSE NEWELL| JNEWELL@KCSTAR.COM 1 hr. ago Former Kansas football coach David Beaty’s lawyers are prepared to file a subpoena to the NCAA in pursuit of numerous documents, including those involving its investigation into coach Bill Self and the KU men’s basketball program.
Beaty’s lawyers, in a memo dated Wednesday, made the request as part of Beaty’s current lawsuit against KU Athletics. Beaty’s counsel is requesting 22 different subsections of documents from the NCAA, with those relating to the men’s basketball program, including:
• Documents submitted by anyone on behalf of KU Athletics, Self or assistant Kurtis Townsend relating to the NCAA investigation;
• Records relating to in-person meetings between NCAA representatives and KU Athletics, Self or Townsend;
• Materials submitted by KU in connection with the NCAA investigation and Notice of Allegations against Self or any subordinate of Self;
• Documents submitted or supplied by Self to the NCAA in connection with the investigation.
The NCAA’s original Notice of Allegations charged KU’s basketball program and Self with five Level I violations — the most severe in the the organization’s three-tier system — while also citing KU with lack of institutional control.
Beaty’s lawyers, in Wednesday’s memo, also ask for a bevy of other items from the NCAA, including documentation involving Beaty, current coach Les Miles and also 2019 football analysts Tony Coaxum and Devin Ducote, who were alleged in KU’s Amended Notice of Allegations to have given impermissible on-field instruction to football players.
KU Athletics, in a court filing Wednesday, dismissed Beaty’s attempts to contrast the department’s treatment of Self and former Jayhawks football coach Mark Mangino regarding potential violations, arguing that it’s “completely disparate circumstances” and in Mangino’s case involved an entirely separate administration.
In February, Beaty’s lawyers also filed a memo to announce an intention to subpoena ex-Adidas consultant T.J. Gassnola in pursuit of documents related to their case.
Gassnola was a key figure during the Adidas college basketball trial in October 2018, testifying, in part, that he paid the family of former KU player Billy Preston $89,000 and the guardian of current Jayhawks player Silvio De Sousa $2,500 for online classes.
Gassnola, who was a witness for the government and later avoided prison time thanks to his cooperation, also testified he agreed to pay $20,000 to help De Sousa’s guardian repay a Maryland booster who gave him $60,000, but Gassnola never paid, he said. Gassnola also testified that neither Self nor Townsend knew about the payments.
-
Am I the only one worried about this?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 said in Trouble:
Am I the only one worried about this?
Most of this stuff is already public I believe. Gassnola testified nobody at KU knew about any of his dealings so idk why Beaty’s crew wants him.
-
Documents supplied by self?
-
If it’s public knowledge why would they want it?
-
My hunch is they’re trying to prove the NCAA’s case against Self. So if Self committed L1 violations and didn’t get canned, Beaty can say the L2 charges had nothing to do with his firing and therefore he was fired without cause.
-
Well, I’ll kind of expand on FarmerJayhawk’s hunch. I think it’s “two-fold” attack…first, to go on a “fishing expedition” to see if they might turn up something useful to their suit, as well as (and probably more likely I think) to attempt to “embarrass” the athletic department by trying to find any possible “dirt” in/on the department to the point that the department determines that any continued embarrassment (whether it’s actually related to the suit or not) is not worth continuing to fight the suit. I understand that both of these tactics are relatively common in"big money" lawsuits.
