Devon Dotson Appreciation Thread

@BShark If Dotson could pass better and shoot more consistently he’d be nearly perfect after he grew 5”. He’s gotten about all he can from college other than a degree. Wish he loved it in Lawrence enough to stay, but you’ve got to get that nba money while it’s there. Heck win it all and he’ll be an all time great. Lose and he disappears in time. Funny how Fickle we fans are.

I get where you are coming from. Obviously Frank and DTae were great, but people acting like Frank was massively better are um, they are just wrong.

Comparing their SO and SR seasons…which is unfair to Dot in a way but this is his last season so it’s kinda fair. He is actually better on two pointers than Frank. Better BPM, better winshares. Raw rebound, assist, turnover numbers are close. FTA will end up close.
I would of course love for him to be back but I understand why he is going pro.
From how I see it Frank & Devonte had great stories (the underdog) and we got to see the evolution of them over 4 years and that plays a big part. Their Sr years were special, Frank’s POY run was amazing, Devonte got this team to a F4. Those are moments you don’t forget. Their stories were easy to love
I really don’t think we know much about Devon and he almost left after last season. As far as I know Devon didn’t have a crazy story to get here he’s just a damn good basketball player so I don’t think people are as attached to him without the feel-good story and the expectation that he’s leaving this year.
He is a star and I’m seeing him not only as the Big-12 POY front runner but he’s getting burn for National POY as well. I would love to see him have a statement game at Baylor on Saturday and thrust that momentum up another notch. Despite playing with 2 injuries he’s been basically really good for the past month. I know I’m trying to enjoy every minute we still have him in a Jayhawk uni

@BeddieKU23 where do u see him next yr?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 G League
-
NBA. No expectation he returns. It will hurt not seeing him for another 1/2 years but this was always reality. Hoping he ends his career here with a title in hand!
-
Oh
-
Tell me Devon isn’t locked in right now.
-
@BeddieKU23 I meant g league or playing on a nba team. A mason or DG?
-
Gotta be special and long to stick in the league with very few exceptions. It’s nearly impossible to overcome the length disadvantage.

Think he is on a team to start but may bounce down for some experience etc
-
I keep seeing him listed as 6’2". Anyone think that’s real? Also, is it just me or are his arms kinda short. Not like short compared to most people but like short compared to most basketball players.

Measured 6’2 in shoes at the NBA Combine last year, so must be pretty accurate. Just perusing through the measurements, I think everyone was wearing platform shoes lol
-
He doesn’t dunk much, I think last time started his hip problem?
-
@benshawks08 If he’s 6’2", I’m Brad Pitt.
My wife will vouch that he’s not 6’2"
-
Regardless of his height, he’s one bad motha
-
6’3” wingspan is pretty normal for a guy his height. It would be easier for him on defense if he was longer, but he’s not a t-Rex like Svi.
-
@rockchalkwyo No doubt!

No question that Dot is ahead of where Mason and Graham were as sophomores. He also has started every game but one I believe this far in his career, so that does help. His assist to turnover ratio has improved the last month. I believe Mason and Graham to be better shooters and passers than Dot but he has a super quick first step and can get to the lane a little easier. I think he goes late first round and if he can he’d be a fool to stay. I think this is the weakest draft class in over a decade personally. He needs to find consistency in shooting 3s and finishing at the rim. His game very close to Masons, where Graham is much better is his range to shoot. I believe that’s why Graham is doing better right now. I think both Dot and Mason can be solid back up PGs in the right organization. Dot is having a great season and I’m glad he’s here!!
-
@BShark No doubt. I was worried there for a few games - injury must have been worse than I had thought. If he shoots 3s in the Tournament like he has been recently (ditto Garrett) look out.
-
Dotson made the final 5 for the Cousy award given to the nation’s top PG
-
He will be faster to 1k pts than Danny and Pierce.

And Rush

Best sophomore season since Wilt. Possibly best sophomore guard/wing at KU. THAT is saying something pretty amazing.
-
The Cousy should be his IMO

Whew

That’s my PG.
-
1st-team All-American, without question. So much for the slump (Lol), huh?
-
It will be interesting to see who gets B12 player of the year but I gotta think both Dot and Doke will be on at least the second team all America.

He talks like a man now. Love his confidence in interviews.
