Shaka vs Boynton vs Prohm Cage Match

  • 3 coaches enter with equal rosters, only one makes it out. Who ya got?

    Things to consider

Shaka grotesquely underperforming with the talent he pulls in at UT.

Prohm had some good years with Hoiberg’s players. Has an eye for talent but last year took a roster that Beard or Self would have won the league with and managed FIFTH place.

Boynton is about to be 0-3 in regards to the NCAAT. This year they certainly have a roster that could make it.

I’m takin Boynton. - gonna have a good group next year. - Think Likely is back, got the # 2 recruit coming in - got some really good pieces. - I actually like him

  • If you are talking about surviving this year I will say Boyton because of Cade. Long term I think I would say him as well.

  • I think Boynton as well, short term he gets Cade on campus. Long term they seem to have low expectations. I’m surprised they have struggled recently.

Prohm seems to be upsetting a fan base otherwise I would pick him because he can win big games

Oh no, sorry. This is a hypothetical where all three have the same roster, who would do the best.

Agree with you Boynton will not be fired.

  • I’ll take Boynton as well. Surprised everyone feels the same way. I’m going by how he coached his first year there with a not great team.

  • Fun stat for Prohm I just saw…

9-16 in game decided by 3 points or less.

  • Haliburton, they weren’t really doing much, my shots just weren’t falling, no respect!🏆

  • @Crimsonorblue22 what a chode

He only took 7 shots. What a sham

  • I was not impressed at all with Haliburton. After seeing him as a top 10 pick and even a top 5 pick on some mocks I was expecting a lot more. Maybe he let all of the scouts in the building get to his head, but other than a few great passes he didn’t affect the game much.

  • @Woodrow his wrist didn’t look bad on his shot, but he did have an air ball. Love the pocket passes though! Self thinks and I agree, his wrist must be hurt, he did sit out.

  • Also, I can’t tell how well he plays D.

  • @Woodrow He had to be hurt. Every time I have seen him play he has been great.

  • @Hawk8086 Did they talk about a possible injury with him? He had a triple double on Saturday so not sure how hurt he could have been.

  • He sat out that loss against Florida A and M. The worst loss in the big 12 ever🤣. Maybe he’s a head case.

he is really goo. Although from the way the Iowa State fans were talking on their boards no one said a peep about him possibly being hurt. - -It was just more like him failing to stepup. - He talked about how the final 8 minutes plus of the 1st half how KU really took it to them

Surprisingly they’re fans was giving KU a lot of props , nothing in a negative way at all. - But what can you say when you just got took to the wood shed

  • Haliburton was terrific against TCU over the weekend. I know it was TCU, I’ve watched about 4-5 others games and he was as good as advertised. That team is spiraling and KU took him out of his game in the first half and at that point we had already demoralized them to a 20 pt lead. I really don’t think that group likes playing with each other and I think Prohm has lost the locker room.

    Marcus the glove Garrett.

  • @BShark

He’s an elite defender. I stopped questioning whether that was actually the case about 6-7 games ago.

  • @BeddieKU23 Improving the defense around him as had a huge trickle down effect too. It’s the reason Agbaji plays so much because even when he is off offensively he is bringing it on D which contributes to this elite team defense.

  • Isu has always had team chemistry problems. They had fist fights last year. Somebody got their foot shut in a door. Some questionable characters, but don’t think so much that is the problem this yr.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 KU was about that bad last year. Much tighter group this year. Don’t know how much you follow on social media but it is even more apparent based on instagram posts.

  • @BShark Agbaji isn’t getting the same recognition defensively but he is quickly approaching lock down level as well. He is really good at using his body and athleticism to guard players 1-4. I don’t get nervous when he ends up on a big or if a play-making guard is trying to go to work on him. He’s really good off the ball and according to some stuff I’ve been reading from Jesse, seems to get the team defense concepts well and is playing to scouting reports! I’ve noticed when MG comes out OA usually takes the other team’s best player and sometimes even with MG on the floor.

  • @benshawks08 I’m just a humble board rat but I’ve been very impressed with Ochai’s defense as well.

Doke, Dot, Marcus and Agbaji are all tremendous defensively and Braun now that he appears to be putting it together could join that group. He has the athletic and mental tools to do it. I was a bit worried about his speed coming in, but that no longer concerns me.

Tristan has had a large statistical impact on D while being clueless, if he ever does totally figure it out he could be amazing. His bigger issue is offense though, where he looks lost.

David is passable on D for a 5 and Moss at least TRIES (cough, Q, cough).

Put it all together and this team is just suffocating.

  • When I had those good seats against CO, the first half D, w/Moss, was awesome to see up close. Poor crims doesn’t get to go now! 🐣🐤

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Damn Kansas weather❄ ❄ 💔

Say it again - - - Say it Again - - - SUFFOCATING - -gotta love it. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Shaka got a road win at Oklahoma St last night- Boynton is now 0-4 in conference play.

  • Shaka is as good as gone, Boynton and Prohm will survive this season.

  • I’d say Boyton is the lesser coach, but Shaka is on the shortest leash.

YA I’ve seen off they’re boards before . Lots of talk about how they’re either building a new facility or remodel the one they’re in now and lots of fans saying there is no way they are going to have Smart leading them when they do.

They say that he is doing just enough where the Admin won’t fire him , but when they build this he won’t be welcome

  • Shaka has at least one more year. UT’s new arena doesn’t open until 2022-23.

wasn’t sure when it was opening for sure. Just remembered seeing something about a new arena and they’re fans saying they didn’t want Shaka running the program once it was

  • @jayballer73 I thought they already decided to build a new one for next season, I’m not up to date on Texas athletics lol. I wouldn’t want to be a basketball coach in Texas. They had the best college player I’ve ever seen in KD and couldn’t sell out!

They will never buy in full to Basketball. To invested to their beloved football program , they are just NOT a Basketball School. - - I actually am kind of surprised at some of the recruits they have gotten. - I as a recruit would not get jacked up playing in front of a little over half to three quarter arena all the time.

Texas Hawk say they’re new arena isn’t opening till 22-23 I didn’t know when , All I knew was that they were going to have a new one soon.

Looks like they just broke ground and it won’t open until 2022.

  • Did Shaka beat Bill?

  • @BShark you are all about this Hell na song lol. What is Shaka now? 2-10 vs Self lol

  • One of those wins by Shaka was the only one that really mattered.

  • @HighEliteMajor yeah, it sucked! Probably won’t help him keep his job.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 It’s the one that got him that job. And yea, he’s toast.

  • Pretty amazing respect KU/Bill has when beating him once gives another man a job for a half a decade.

  • @dylans Of course, it had nothing to do with Self. It was getting VCU to the FF.

    Sarcasm?

Member berries pop up - member Shaka’s introductory press conference at Texas?

    Yeah, I member that.

Member Shaka hanging his hat on one win in it?

    Yeah, I member that.

  • I like shakas call on doke, traveling, he got waaaaaay to excited! Jeez! But wait, instant replay showed, no walk! Sure hope he got to see that!

  • @BShark I think (this year’s record aside) that I would take Prohm over the other two.

  • mmmmmmm

  • Texas getting beat by isu? Go osu!
