4 Guards

  • Completely changed the game yesterday.

Perfect example was Garrett crossing up their 4 man for an Ochai wide open 3. That play is exactly how this offense spaces and stops them from playing “bad ball”.

Moss getting 17 in this offense is a lot different then Dave getting 17.

Braun has emerged the last 3 games. 2 create your own shot 3’s. That confidence is what we need out there.

  • Right, right, right, and right …

Doke and Dave together? Nope. Evidence so far is pretty strong.

Self is maybe in a box a bit with Dave and Silvio minutes-wise.

  • The lane was so dang clogged, it’s a wonder there weren’t more sprained ankles! No clear lanes, and the bigs weren’t clearing for the guards like in the past.

  • Dave was posting up wayyyyy to far out and not handling the trap, I thought at least O was smoother w/Silvio, not clogged. He wasn’t great but got out of the way. I think if doke can get that many boards he will always be a plus.

  • 4 guards are fine as long as it’s the right combination. I’m cooling some on Enaruna at the 4, he’s making a lot of mistakes, isn’t making shots, and the advanced stats hate him. More Braun and Silvio, less McCormack and Enaruna.

We absolutely have to post better and pass out of the double. There will be open shooters all day if we can just find them.

  • @FarmerJayhawk I’m ready for more Braun. He’s improved a bit. First couple weeks of the season he wasn’t ready for D1 speed.

It just doesn’t work. - - I wish it did , I really like Dave - - -I really like Doke , but at the same time , it’s just not working. - - -This team is just so much more fluid with the 4 guard around 1. - -Hell almost like a free lance - - drive and dish - -let it fly. - - The only problem is we have to be more consistent in our 3. Marcus does enough driving I’m fine with him. – Braun is growing right before our eyes - -ki is going to be a winner for sure in a year or to.

You can see Braun getting more minutes - -Coach is seeing him getting better - - I just think we have to just scrap the 2 big - at least with who we have at the moment. - -If you want to run 2 big’s they need to be more mobile that can step out and hit that 10-15 foot jumper with some consistency. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I think we will continue to see Braun get more PT and Tristan will be squeezed out of the rotation during league play. Tristan just has not progressed as the season has gone on and Braun is coming on it seems.

I agree but less Silvio - -he is also a mistake looking for a place to happen right now, he just looks so lost, clumsy no offensive threat at all at this point - agree 100000000 % on Braun. -Play Dotson - - -Moss - - Garrett - - & Ochai/Braun around Doke - -would be good - - Pull Doke in late close games cause of free throw woe’s - Hell Dave would be better late - higher pct% - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@Jayballer54 I wish it did too. All off season, I was expecting Silvio to start with Doke. That seemed to make sense. Doke and Dave just doesn’t, whether watching or thinking about it.

Braun is progressing, but we should all expect bumps.

@FarmerJayhawk Ah, this is where Self being patient with Enaruna, getting him that valuable PT, has a good chance of paying off in March. I want to win the national title. Enaruna seems like a guy that could develop into an impact type guy. I would not pull that plug. I like the 10-12 minutes with more if he’s playing well. We need to transition and go all in 4/1.

Are you thinking fewer minutes than that?

I like the 10ish number. He’s averaging a bit over 16 now, which seems high to me. I’d rather see Braun and Moss, with Garrett or Ochai at the 4. Push Moss closer to 25 MPG given his shooting numbers (42% from 3, 92% from the line) and Braun closer to 15. If we cut Enaruna down to 10 MPG and increase both Braun and Moss by 3 the math works.

Re: patience, that’s what we need with Silvio. He’s learning a new position and shaking off in-game rust. He’s our most mobile and skilled big and a tremendous rebounder. We have an immensely higher ceiling with him vs. McCormack. I love Dave but he and Doke aren’t good together. Would like to see Silvio get more than 9 MPG and Dave less than 17.

ya I could agree with Dave a little less then his 17 - -give Dave 10-12 minutes. - -someone needs to spell Doke. - -David is a pretty dam good rebounder - -give him his 10 for this year - -it is just good to have the depth. - -work a few wrinkles out and this team could be almost lethal

  • Dave really panicked Sunday on those dble teams. What was he doing so far out there? And then passing to someone right next to him, plus the sideline. Just fundamental stuff. I don’t know if other teams will gamble-dble them, on our bigs like that. Usually doke handles that better. He gets down so quickly!

  • I also think Enaruna has a lot of potential, keep him playing.

  • @FarmerJayhawk

    Agree with that entire post

    Think you are right.

I’m thinking Moss gets his off less possessions since most or all would be treys.

But Dave may be a few offensive rebound putbacks.

I would think Dave’s points are a safer bet happening more consistently, but who knows.

As others mention, Moss should create scoring space for our bigs, but that didn’t really seem to be the case at Stanford. Doke had 2?

Our bigs should create scoring space for our guys on the trey line.

Maybe it’s a good thing that one game we pump in big points from trey, next game our points come from the paint. How will teams scout us then?

It’s been nice to see we can get a bunch of points from almost any player with significant minutes. Doke, Devon, Moss, Big Mac, even Marcus. We have a lot of weapons and that makes us tough to scout!

What is bothering me is we aren’t maximizing points off the drive.

We need to be sure that we have many games where we score big points off the drive. Then we have 3 scary weapons… points off the drive, from trey and in the paint. That covers it all, except points off of runouts. I’d like to see us get more of those, too!

  • @drgnslayr agree, not sure they wanna dble team
