Redshirting a Big

@BShark We really NEED either RJ or Grimes. Meaning we really need a perimeter player so Garrett isn’t starting.
Starters - Dotson, Grimes/RJ, Agbaji, SDS, Doke.
Bench - Garrett, McBride, Dave, Mitch
Mitch will be better than Enaruna.

Agree on everything except wanting Grimes back. I’d roll the dice with finding minutes elsewhere even if we miss on RJ (I think we land RJ though fwiw).
-
I hope he lets Silvio play at the 4. I cringe thinking of him as simply a backup.
-
I don’t think anyone is taking a RS other than Braun if we land RJ and Wilson. I don’t think Enaruna is a 5 year guy so no reason to RS him.

I agree buddy - - I think we will see him at the 4 - -check out the line up I brought up. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Fair enough.
@KUSTEVE the biggest issue will be offensive spacing.
-
I’m already a huge fan of Tristan… but he needs to beef up considerably to play at the D1 level. He’s a guy I’d offer an immediate RS for. I bet Mitch would take one, so he is left with a lot of playing time in his senior year. He’s not going to rush off for pro ball somewhere, though I do think he could earn a living with his game.
-
I think even with Doke and De Sousa back, Dave will still see a lot of run. Even when Doke’s been healthy, he hasn’t averaged a lot more than 20 minutes per game. And if memory serves me right, Doke gets into foul trouble a lot and is hard to play end-game because he can’t shoot free throws very well. I would guess that Dave still get around 10-12 minutes per game on average, and on some nights might have to play around 20 minutes.
I’m not sure who I’d RS between Mitch and Enaruna because there are benefits to both. Mitch doesn’t bring a lot to the table that we wouldn’t already get from Doke, De Sousa, and Dave, and we’re definitely losing a few of those guys after next season, so putting him on the shelf for a year isn’t such a bad idea. But Mitch probably isn’t going to improve much in that year. Enaruna could really use a year for strength and conditioning and polish, but his skillset is probably more valuable to next season’s team because he can shoot 3’s. I just hope he wouldn’t leave the program if KU decides to go that route.
If Wilson comes to KU, RS Enaruna. If not, RS Mitch.

I found this. Silvio going up against 7 footer Bol Bol, and 7’3" Conner Vanover, and working them over:
-
Lets hope that Dok is healthy and injury free for the entire year.
-
@HighEliteMajor Dotson/RJ/Ochai or Wilson/SDS/Doke. That would be my lineup. Not sure that Bill will play it that way, though. He might go with Silvio as a backup against speedy 4 out teams. Then the question becomes who plays the 4? Wilson doesn’t really want to play the 4, does he?
-
@AsadZ I hope so too, but it hasn’t happened yet. Thankfully the team can now deal with an injury to him, if one does happen.
@KUSTEVE Bill’s hand will probably be forced in some match-ups for sure. Depends who is on the roster. Wilson you sell on being a guard/wing in recruiting but if needed in certain games you can play him at the 4. Don’t think Enaruna is ready but could be surprised. Garrett and Agbaji could fill the role as well.

I hope we put into effect some “Doke restrictions” to protect his health. Like no crazy dunks in practice.
-
@DoubleDD Doke and DeSousa and Devon Dotson (hopefully). You’re going to need to change your name to quadruple D.

His wrist injuries were both flukes, no amount of restrictions would have prevented those beyond Doke not practicing at all.

Ditto…SDS is much like McMorris. He can play in and around the lane. Big Mac and Doke are strictly painters. The really good news about our bigs is that our FTs will improve drastically with SDS back. That guy didn’t miss many FTs. He made teams pay every time he stepped to the line.
I totally agree…let SDS loose at the 4 and watch him work.

De Sousa = Thomas Robinson
-
I hope Mitch redshirts. Was planning on it last season until everything went bass ackwards. I assume he would be ok staying a 5th year and getting his masters.

De Sousa is a beast down low, no doubt, but he seems to be able to step out a bit, too. T-Rob couldn’t do that, almost all dunk. I think De Sousa has a much higher ceiling.

Let’s wait and see Silvio actually hit some? TRob was almost 70% from the line his JR year and was definitely hitting mid-range jumpers.
-
@Marco Robinson could hit mid-range jumpers semi-regularly. I’m not expecting much more than that from Silvio. I think he’ll be getting a lot of his points from dunks too.

TRob was one of the greatest players in KU history. First team AA. Big 12 POY. And he did “step out” and hit shots with some frequency. He was not even close to “almost all dunks.” He was a rebounding machine. Higher ceiling than the #5 pick in the draft? SDS has quite a ways to go to be in the same sentence. But I do like the optimism there.
-
-
@HighEliteMajor Exactly. I as am excited as the next person in regards to Silvio getting cleared. However; let’s wait on declaring Silvio, who has played 175 minutes total at KU, a better player than TRob.

Doesn’t mean the next one would be a fluke, especially since he’s had injuries on both wrists now. He does often slam hard…

TROB was quick- lightening quick. And he had a sweet midrange jumper. Silvio has a way to go before he gets to that comparison level. Lest we forget:

Thomas was an absolute freak show. If he comes back we win it all the next season. But he obviously had to provide for his sister.

Thank you for this video my friend. - -Robinson was always one of my sentimental favorites. - You know just makes me wonder sometimes , WHY did T-rob not have more success then he did /has in the NBA - -pretty limited. in the NBA
He was one of these guy that I felt got under appreciated - - not by JayHawk Nation BUT on a National scale - I don’t know just seems like he didn’t get the props. -Always have a place in my heart. - Sure seemed pretty athletic, made a nice frontline with him and the Morris twins and Jeff right? - There are some guys that just seem to get lost in the schuffle - - T-Rob I think was one of those guys. - -not to me. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@BShark Oh, I am not saying that he is better, not by a longshot. I think that he can be, though. What if, what if, Silvio sticks around for two more years?
-
@jayballer73 I always wanted coach to play TROB at the same time as the Morii, but he never did. Not once.
-
TRob is one of my favorite Jayhawks in the last 10-15 years, but I think Silvio is a better athlete and BB player. Honestly, the guy should’ve gone pro, but I’m thrilled to get to see him in a KU jersey for one more season. Nothing gets in his way. It’s going to be fun!
-
I don’t see T-Rob when I look at Silvio. I see more Markeiff Morris when I look at them. Big Dave is the T-Rob clone on this team.
-
I see Darnell Jackson in Silvio. At least as of today. The ultimate garbage man.

Of course not…the NCAA stole a whole season. You didn’t see him at all. You just saw a small part of his game. I think he’s smarter than TRob and his skill level is more polished. TRob was pure power and athleticism. There will never be another beast like TRob.
-
I think DeSousa will be hungry for a strong season. Dang…Doke, Big Mac, and SDS will be sick. We should’ve had MkMorris with Withey and TRob. Self wasn’t expecting MkMorris to go with McMorris.
-
@truehawk93 Even in the little bit of time we saw Silvio his freshman year, he looked like a Markieff Morris type.
-

Garbage man? Really? Ok…
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 The kid did this basically his second semester out of high school, high school. TRob was on a strong roster his freshman year with the Morri and Withey. Then he went and got bigger.
Let’s see what SDS does after this crazy NCAA mess of a suspension. He’s been practicing too. He should pick up where he left off. I just hope Hudy has worked him too during the “suspension.” I use that term lightly too, “suspension.” It was more like a screw-spension.
I don’t care what anyone thinks. Glad he’s back and it’s going to be exciting with our nasty front court.

It’s a compliment! His motor is elite. He’s an elite rebounder and will be a really good defender. But he’s not going to be a guy we iso in the block like Thomas. That’s Doke’s role.
-
If he can play with this confidence, we are in for a treat. Dang he looks good and TRob-esque.
-
Silvio is much more offensively skilled that T-Rob ever was. T-Rob was an average skilled offensive player at best and that’s why he couldn’t stick in the NBA. By the time Silvio leaves KU, he will have a much more well polished offensive game than T-Rob ever had at KU.
This isn’t a knock on either guy, but the fact is they have different skill sets and excell/ed in different areas of basketball. T-Rob always excelled at rebounding and post defense, but was a liability if he was dragged out of the lane. Silvio is quicker and more athletic than T-Rob was and can guard stretch 4’s and bigger wings on the perimeter much more effectively than T-Rob could.
-
We’re going around in circles. I love TROB. I love Silvio. They’re both badasses. They’re both Jayhawks. Nuff said.
