Subtract Darryn and Melvin and you are left with 29 two guys do not make us good offensively,

This post is deleted! -
Yeah this is super not good

-
We’ve been pretty consistently around 13-14 per game. It would be huge to have those extra possessions when we don’t score it great in the half court
-
Not sorry I don't have Peacock today.
-
If Tre, Melvin and DP can figure out how to play together look out
-
@kjayhawks2.0 I think that is up to Bill. As a HOF coach making millions, it's not too much to expect.
-
For the first time this season part of the team didn't seem engaged kinda jogging slowly up and down not alert. Not like them at all, who knows but it was obvious or so it seemed. UCF was engaged and it was a home game. TCU another hot team riding six game winning streak coming to Allen on the 6th. Peterson was amazing.
-
I think we saw the result of this team not playing a game for basically two weeks. They just looked off today. I think next season, we need to make sure we have a buy game the week between Christmas and New Year's against a localish team like UMKC, Mo. State, Omaha, SEMO, or someone like that.

Unfortunately this game gives us a lot of negative takeaways and only 1 positive.
The positive: Melvin Council is the real deal. He is a stud who can hit big shots, play defense, and get to the rim at will.
The negatives:
-
DP will not play a second half for us all year. It does not matter if he is "100%". It just isn't going to happen.
-
Our defense, it turns out, was a paper tiger.
-
We have no heart. This is the only explanation for us not getting any defensive rebounds. We have the size and athleticism to be great on the glass.
-
We have no toughness. Everytime we tied or took the lead we gave up an easy basket at the other end. In the last minute with a chance to win we allowed 100% 3 pt percentage, 100% shooting from the field, and gave up 2.67 points per possession.
-
Flory has not taken the step forward needed from him.
-
Tiller is not ready to be a big 12 starter.
I suppose, on the bright side, all these issues (minus number 1) are fixable, but as of now it looks like we are a bottom half of the Big 12 team.
Overreaction city, not based on our full season of work.
-
We still don't know. I wish if he was on a minutes restriction that they'd be allocated out a bit so we have him at the end of the game.
-
Our defense is really one of the better units in recent memory. Today 1st half was ugly but 2nd half was much better. Against a tall team we had 7 blocks
-
We have no heart. Really. How is that measured? I'd say we've showed a lot of heart this season in the way we've played against really good teams, even shorthanded without DP.
-
We have no toughness. One game we were down by 1 with 10 seconds left on the road against a well coached and 1 loss team. Come on man, again how are you measuring toughness? Since the championship, this is the toughest team we've had by far, we've all been saying it. Don't let a bad result (that we win if DP plays) cloud your judgment on this team. They're a fun team to watch and have given us thrills this season we haven't experienced since 22.
-
Flory has improved in many ways since his freshman year. More minutes sure, but he's been indispensible to this team.
-
I might agree on Tiller.
There was a lot of negativity on the board today. Disappointing loss for sure. End of the world? Not ready to go there.

I will also add that Melvin Council is absolutely Tyshawn Taylor, good and bad. He no showed the first half, microwaved the second half, and committed a stupid foul that cost KU a chance at the end of the game. That And 1 was one of the most brain fart fouls in recent memory. You're down 1 and you trying to catch up on a breakaway lay up. Don't foul unless you can prevent the made basket in that moment and Council didn't do that. As great as Council was in the 2nd half, he also absolutely cost KU a chance to send the game to OT as well.
-
Time will tell for all of my takeaways, but until shown otherwise I think it is likely that all 6 are correct. This is the first game of the season where there were actually stakes, and I think the way we responded was very telling.
-
@wissox83 ha. Ive kind of shut it down mentally after that loss because I dont want to overreact to any of the narratives. I did afford myself some snark shots, probably unwarranted, at the character of TCUs PG after he yelled “aaaaaaaaand oneeeee” as loud as he possibly could on a play where he didnt even take a shot attempt? and of course their demonic HC, and the refs who doubled their per annum today. But this was all to avoid saying something I might regret about a coach, players and a fanbase whose souls may be redeemed by years end. It was an ugly loss. We seemed clueless for long stretches. Hopefully our guys can approach with positivity and move on.

@Tallturd1 I could give a rats ass how many points Peterson has as long as we are on the short end - -wasn't enough right that's what Hanni kept saying OH Darryn has 20 OH Darryn ha 23, I got so tired of hearing that crap. Bottom line was we winning ?.
I and there were others early to midway point of that first half when Darryn was in there was more watching and standing around by the other four guys that was on the floor with him , waiting for Darryn to do something.-- How long in this entire game did we have the lead ? was playing from behind for the majority of the game
UCF could of very easily played with the intention/knowing Darryn was gonna get his, their plan was he gets his then he gets his , just play the others and make sure none of the others goes off for career points
. I have seen that happen many of timesToday is an perfect example of what people have been afraid of , Darryn is unbelievable one of a kind player BUT it comes with a price with this team

Not so fun with the boxscore!
Very strange stats for a 6 point loss. Mostly even across the board from both teams. our offense went in the crapper late in the second half.
THE GOOD (in the first half!)
DP had pretty much a full game of stats in the first half.
18 minutes played, 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 3 sloppy turnovers.
Ended up with 26 points and 6 rebounds. He did have three sloppy turnovers. Great shooting percentages: about 50% on FGs and 3pt shots.
THE BAD (in the first half)
Melvin with a big goose egg for points. But of course we were without him for half the half after he picked up a quick 2 fouls. he had 1 assist.
18 total points: From all KU players not named DP
32 total points: From all UCF players not named Riley Kugel.
THE GOOD (in the second half)
Melvin was a monster one man show. 20 points, but zero 2nd half assists.
THE BAD (in the second half)
14 total points: from all KU players not named DP
30 total points: from all UCF players not named Riley Kugel (just picked one guy)
THE MAYBE GOOD OR BAD
Flory's final stats: 8 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks. But didn't he seem invisible mostly?
Trey's final stats: 14 points, 11 rebounds. He dribbled way too much trying to make things happen. that doesn't seem to be his strength.
Bryson: 2 points, 4 rebounds. a 100% awful game for stats and just watching him. ugh.
RANDOM COMMENTARY
Elmarko: ugh
Jamari: ugh
Kohl: other than those two bouncy effort plays, ugh.

Oh , my kingdom for a Christan Braun right about now, Tough as nails we would have two dawgs out there Melvin drivin at top speed and CB draining those three's to double up with Darryn - love the line up with Darryn-- --Melvin -- - -Christan -- - Tre- ---& Flory.
Ahhh gone are the good ol days of dominating this league this too shall pass

Usually on Bill's scheme we can move the ball around the perimeter two or three passes (hopefully sharp) but yesterday it was one pass every time and a dribbler looking to pass inside where there was Tree Bol and no one open. Then it was call someone up from the perimeter and pass resulting in a forced shot, UCF was well coached and got after us and we didn't match that. Our number one thing to avoid is foul trouble but Flory and Melvin had to sit. It was not unnatural for Darryn to turn the ball over while being the primary ball handler in his first time out. We are a defensive team and held them to 30% from three but 52% on two pointers because our guards were laying off I thought. Darryn is not to blame and neither is Melvin. They carried us. Tiller was just taking up space and maybe had been sick it looked like. Why can't a 6'11" guy dunk on put backs. Tre was 4 out of 13 and 1 out of 5 but played hard. But those are not good stats, duh. Flory was not his high motor self and didn't get back on defense and he and Bryson were conserving their energy. Melvin and Tre got back but it was lonely there. We are a low possession offense paced team and look to lob or pass it down low per coaches instructions. We are a 75 point offense and pretty much got that. 29 points outside of DP and MC on 13 for 35 on two pointers and 2 for 11 on threes. That is woeful. Losing by just six points on the road is not the end of the world, We just squandered DP's and MC's effort. We are still awaiting updates on DP. We are worn down and he is too. What is being said in the family circle we don't know again. So many thoughts on all that does not mean squat. It is evident that Darryn can mostly take himself out and Self said again I over did it holmes (i'm so hip I scare myself) thanks to EMPD, I really like this team and if this team was my spouse it could say I have a headache or old school I have to wash my hair and I'm okay. We have TCU on Tuesday and they are in the top half of the conference 1-0. I guarantee a win by say 69-65. Ugly but the UCF dancers were not ugly at all.

@ROCKCHALK2025 Amen.
-
KU Women avenged the defeat by beating UCF women on the road.
Go KU Women.
-
@AsadZ the women have lost so many close games
