At least HE’S NOT YAWNING on national tv.

  • @kjayhawks probably not.

  • Oh well, lets wrap up and get out. Lick our wounds and get ready for what may be a bigger game. You know, I don’t care what happens. I just want them to beat the purple pussies.

  • True out

  • Amazing what is possible with effort nice game Tech.

  • On plus side I dont have to go streaking @approxinfinity lol

  • lol. The day Charlie Moore rises up and takes this team to a NC is the day I shave my head, you go streaking, and who knows what else happens that other people bet as collateral against fantastic improbabilities.

  • Watched the whole thing. Not sure if I am a big KU fan or just a masochist.

  • @approxinfinity an asteroid hits the earth and we all die lol

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich The latter.

  • Did not look like a team that wanted to win the conference.

  • I think we lose Monday as well, heck we may lose out.

  • Looked like a team that starts 4 freshmen. Freshmen have always had a hard time on the road in the Big 12.

  • @tundrahok looked like a team that started 5 guys that didnt give a flying f*** about the out come of the game.

  • Well looks like Vick wasn’t the cancer we all thought he was, this is just this team.

  • They are kids. They get rattled. I don’t think it’s accurate to say they don’t care. They are going to have to live with the legacy of losing the streak. That’s a lot of pressure when you are 18 years old. It had to happen sometime, and there are plenty of reasons why this year is the year. Not caring is not one of those reasons.

  • @tundrahok if we lost because they were on fire, I’d be fine with that. But we didnt, we showed zero energy, effort or heart for much of the game. If this team has any care or heart at all, they will prove it Monday by kicking KSUs ass. Which I’m not betting on.

  • @tundrahok I’m going Monday. Better be a win!

  • We looked out-scouted.

Cannot win this game with that kind of effort from Lawson and Dotson. They need to be good every night, no exception.

  • I’m sorry, was there a game tonight?

  • I shook Ethan Happ’s hand tonight.

  • Its amazing how bad Ochai and Q were. In a 57 combined minutes they shot 2/9 had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Ochai was probably due for a bad game but man will Q ever figure it out. Self needs to sit him IMO, he flat out doesn’t give us the best chance to win. He and Charlie should take seat for the rest of the year. Not sure why Dave didnt get more minutes, his numbers were the best per minutes played. What tough game to witness, the guys on post game didnt really seem to care much, just said Tech couldn’t miss and laughed it off.

I think I"ll catch up on True Detective rather than watch the 2nd half…

Actually, True Detective may be worse than this game this season.

  • So just starting to watch the game. Saw the score earlier, so I’m at least watching suspense-free.

Tech made 16 3s? Holy jeebus.

Still 4:53 left in the first half. I may stop watching…

  • Is it safe to come out yet? I thought we were playing Tech…why did Villanova show up?

  • Expecting our young team to go into that environment and win was probably hoping for too much. But expecting to be competitive was no asking too much. However…it was one of those nights for Tech…Banked 3’s being an example. Our young team didn’t respond too well…hence he butt kicking.

  • @Hawk8086 Right, I just can’t remember a kansas team putting that little effort into a game. Even Ochai and Lightfoot weren’t getting after it.

  • @kjayhawks You know that I love Bill. BUT… we couldn’t stop the 4 out when Hoiberg and the Clones ran it, we couldn’t stop Villanova when they ran the 4 out last year, and we couldn’t stop Tech when they ran it, too. I could probably throw in VCU in that mix, too. This was a coaching loss. Stay with your man - don’t overcommit on defense doesn’t seem to be in our lexicon. The way you’re defending the 4 out is not working, Bill.

  • One other thing I want to get off my chest- the media for the last freaking 14 years…have BARELY even mentioned our world record holding 14 year consecutive conference winning streak. Now that it’s on the ropes, you can’t go on any sports website without it being plastered about us in real doubt of winning again this year. So if we lose…or fail, it’s big news. When we win, they could care less.

One of the sad parts of this game – and believe me there were MANY sad spots - - BUT ONE that has chapped my ass all year long? - -was our 3 pt defense or better yet - - lack of it,

Soooo many fricken times this year have I seen a so called defender lung out art the opposition’s 3pt shooter and go flying past them like they Superman flying buy with a half heart olay hand up in the air

I have seen this crap ALL fricken year - shooters WIDE open - - hell - -even I could roll out in a wheel chair get my blanket out --take a swig of my geritol cover my lap and have time to look through my stack of porn’s by the time they could get someone out to try and keep my from putting up a 3 pt shot - I mean JUMPIN - - GEE - - HOSSIE - - TOADS - -When are we going to learn how to defend the 3? - gettin pretty sick of this crap - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Make no mistake, three point defense is about scheme. It’s a conscious choice by the coach. And it’s not easy.

Think of it this way. If a coach wanted to defend the three point line most effectively he would place five defenders in a zone near the three point line, around the three point line. Of course, easy bucket underneath. More practically, a coach can simply switch actively away from the hoop and go into “no help” mode. There are obviously options less stark, like no help mode targeted to specific players.

My point is that our poor three point defense is not largely a function of our players failing (as @JayHawkFanToo would always say), but rather, it’s based largely on our scheme.

That isn’t really 100% criticism. It happens with most teams. You try to cut off the drive to the hoop and the closer basket.

But in reality, the three point line is as dangerous as the drive or the post up. Many times more dangerous. I just don’t think we respect that enough defensively. We saw it against Villanova in the FF. The three point line was an open range. Open shots. Easy looks.

You can’t defend everything. But what we defend is certainly a choice. And the choice is made by Self.

Of course, players can fail in their delineated tasks. I’m not seeing that. I’m seeing a large number of clean looks.

  • @HighEliteMajor I don’t really get the way we play defense on the 3 point line most of the time. Seems like most of the shots from distance are from the corners of the court. Several were Saturday, the issue is that the guy guarding the guy in the corner when the ball is only one pass away is in the lane or damn close to it, to protect the drive and be there to help. The trouble is if the 3 point corner shot is one pass away he simply does does not have the time to get back. You shouldn’t be more than 2 steps away from your man if it is one pass away, thats basic defense (one pass away means that there doesn’t have to be a skip pass over several other offensive players, if they had to skip it you would fine sagging that far off because you can recover while the ball is in the air). I feel like our defense and rebounding have lacked very badly since 2012 or 2013.

  • @kjayhawks We were watching a clinic on how to guard the 3 point line as we were getting thrashed. Start doing to teams what Tech did to us. One other thing- if you’re getting pummeled from the 3 point line, don’t go to a zone. It doesn’t work. I am hoping for a great rebound game tonight, as they seem to provide that after a road loss once they get back home ( 15-0). Thank God the NCAAs are on neutral courts, although I wouldn’t be surprised if our 4/5 seed doesn’t net us a Sweet 16 match up with Dook.

  • @KUSTEVE I’d like to see that game…with a full roster.

  • @KUSTEVE That zone against T-Tech was certainly a head-scratcher. I think we weren’t really competing by then. Just practicing.

  • Charlie isn’t shooting well… But he’s no Jack white! Lol 0 for last 28 from 3

oh my. Just looked and he went 0-10 against Syracuse when they lost in Cameron. He’s 1-32 in his last 15 games. wow

  • Wow. I haven’t heaved a basketball in over a decade, but I’m willing to wager a sizable sum that I could make 3% of my threes.

  • @dylans Great point. I’m 60 and feel the same way. It has to come down to just practice (or lack of). You repeat a motion often enough and it’s going to become second nature.

If he’s really that bad after continued practice - just quit shooting the dang thing. Give it to someone who can.

  • Tyrell Reed went through a similar stretch one time I believe.

Vick had a horrible stretch at one point and then couldn’t miss for awhile after.

Sometimes it has nothing to do with practice or muscle memory. It is just a fluky thing.

Why do good hitters go on 0 for 30 stretches?

If White all of a sudden starts hitting again, Duke becomes that much better. I’m sure K is telling him to keep shooting.

I was trying to explain this to my family the other day about Grimes. Yes, he’s playing with more verve these days, but those games where he literally had no discernible stats is incredibly hard to do. I told my mom if she just stood out on the court in the same spot for 30 minutes during a game, I guarantee she could amass at least one rebound or grab a loose ball.

And because she would be standing still as the loose ball came right to her, she would probably get run over by a moving player who was diving for the ball, allowing her to go to the free throw line and get some points as well. There. See? A septuagenarian just bested a 5-star, #8-ranked recruit.

You really have to try to contribute nothing in the game of basketball.
