2019 Recruiting

  • @BShark

His shooting ability this early is definitely a plus. Would like to see him continue to develop physically and seems how he’s young he’s got plenty of time for that. If Self is offering this early it must mean serious interest. Would be shocked if he ends up anywhere else

  • Only the 3rd OK prep player to be offered by KU since Xavier Henry played at KU. Other two being Trae Young and Nino Jackson. Thanks to Sam Duren via twitter for this nugget, I wouldn’t have thought about it. Ended up dm’ing with some old OK hoop heads about Nino. Man that kid could ball.

  • @BShark Didn’t Nino get into some trouble with the law? Ended up at a JC??

  • @Woodrow I thought it was academics but if you have an article about legal troubles I’d love to see it. Awhile back I was trying to dig into exactly what happened with him and didn’t find anything conclusive.

  • @BShark This article says “off court issues”

    http://newsok.com/article/3802903

    http://www.news-star.com/article/20130428/sports/130429685

Looks like he had a kid and stopped going to school which led to grade problems…

I just remember Matt from the Shiver was raving about him and then he just disappeared.

  • @Woodrow Thanks. I knew about the academic issues but never why.

And yeah the kid could absolutely hoop. I think he would have been really good at KU under Self. Too bad it didn’t work out.

  • Well from what I read today - - looks like RJ Hampton and Robinson Earle - really stood out at the EBYL in Dallas this past weekend. - Article states that KU is for sure the team to beat for Earle but we knew that - we need to lock him up early. - Personally I think he is pretty well locked up already but could be wrong.

I’ve heard rumors just not for sure how legit they are, talk about RJ reclassifying . - Is this people just blowing smoke OR is there a legit chance he reclassifies to 2019? - - -what ya think? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73 99% chance RJ reclassifies to 2019. It’s all but done.

  • @BShark So what’s your feel with him? - - -we have a legit shot?. - - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

KU vs Duke. KU very strongly positioned but Duke is making a HARD push which makes sense because he’s a top tier talent.

  • Kansas is another school that has long been linked with Hurt, and the Jayhawks also made a good impression during their visit.

“My family and I have a good relationship with them,” said Hurt of Kansas. “The assistants are really good guys who talk about life with me. It isn’t all about basketball with them. We talk about life as well, so we have a strong relationship.”

  • At this point, I’d say it’s more likely than not Hurt and Hampton are part of KU’s 2019 class assuming Grimes goes pro. I can’t see Jacobs going anywhere else unless KU cuts him loose. He wasn’t going to play a ton anyway as a freshman, but can be a good player down the line.

  • Hampton just got offered by Duke

With the expectation he’ll reclassify, which could happen as soon as this summer.

  • Norm is going to watch Precious this weekend. He likes KU quite a bit. UConn and FSU are teams to watch.

Not sure KU can land Hurt and Achiuwa but the odds of landing one seem pretty good. Either one puts KU in a good spot.

I’d definitely take a Dotson Hampton Achiuwa Hurt Dante lineup.

Have consistently heard he likes KU- especially Norm. This isn’t the type of player we let go to a Uconn or FSU… This is a top 5 player in his class I think when its all said and done

Norm’s stomping grounds. If anyone can close him…

Great to hear that he likes KU, kind of unusual for someone from NY. Going to be a battle.

For sure. Norm is the man up there. It’s early but I like our chances.

Jalen Carey liked Norm and KU as well at this point last year so yeah its early and a battle for sure. Of course Achiuwa is a different echelon of player so I’d imagine he’s going to be a bigger priority

Definitely I don’t see this one ending soon. It’s going to be interesting to see if the staff can land multiple players at the same position… Hurt, Achiuwa, JRE. Maybe Achiuwa settles into being a big SF, although that’s probably a bit wishful thinking there as he’s continued to grow. Hopefully we keep on him this summer

  • The only way we get all 3 is if Silvio leaves. JRE can play the 5 since he’s like 6’10 235 now. Precious is skilled enough to play on the wing but I like him a lot in the Josh Jackson 4 role. Or you can play him at the 3 with Hurt at the 4 interchangeably, like we did with Vick and Svi.

  • @FarmerJayhawk

Pretty much that would be crazy to convince them all to coexist. Won’t count out bill and the gang until otherwise

  • And as we thought, it’s going to be a fight with Duke to get Hampton.

I firmly believe KU could have landed him if needed. Got that vibe reading between the lines from Slater.

Need to just close on JRE already. Loves KU AAAAND a great fit for Self (tough, rebounder).

  • Rj Hampton had 28 points and 5 assist tonight in front of Bill self Duke Texas and others

  • Self watched Bassey and Hurt this morning.

  • Josh Green had 37 today. He’s rising quickly up my wish list. KU is going to need some scoring in 2019, and he gets buckets.

If Duke nut punches Self/KU for Hampton, Josh Green becomes a top target imo.

Landing either prospect has to be considered a win-win. Both would be insane and an option given they play different positions

  • I wonder what KU will do at guard if Duke snags Hampton. Harvey feels more like a wing to me plus the legal crap he is dealing with.

  • KU offered 2019 PG Tre Mann from Florida. Top 40 player.

  • Duke offered 2019 PG Josiah James. Hope they get him!

Same. Though I’m kind of conflicted because I love his game.

Let me ask you this buddy. - With KU offering to him , just confuses me a little - -I mean are they think Devon is a OAD? - - PLUS we still have Moore a s a PG on the roster. - That’s not even talking about Moore being the start pg - just on the roster.-- Seems to me that and this is what I’m asking you cause it seems or looks like to me they are Recruiting over Markese. - -Unless they fully believe Dotson is a OAD your gonna have - - Dotson – -Moore - - -Jacobs - -and then they offered this guy? - -kind of looks like to me they are over recruiting this spot unless they pushing someone out

I mean KU is going hard after Hampton in 2019 too. It’s clear the staff wants another PG.

Dotson should still be around but you never know. Moore isn’t good. Jacobs isn’t a guy that contributes year one.

There are situations where I could see Jacobs and KU mutually parting ways. Otoh if he is willing to stick with KU through this FBI crap I say stick with him. He probably won’t be top 100 when it’s all said and done but who cares if he is willing to stay and develop.

Grimes and Cremo if he is added will open up two guard spots. That’s room for two signings. Plus KU might have open scholarships anyway.

  • In a four guard lineup it’s not an issue. I love having two talented point guards on the floor at once even in a traditional lineup, it puts a lot of pressure on the D. (I.e. Mario and Russell or Devonte’ and Frank)

  • @BShark

I think you are selling Moore short, no pun intended. Based on what I have read about him, he will surprise a lot of people. Markese is currently ranked #84 and will likely move up and maybe break into the top 50 when all is said and done. He might not contribute in his first year but he is a lot like Sherron and if he does anywhere near as well as Sherron did it will be a huge bonus.

I’ve chosen to die on this hill re: Moore from what I’ve seen and read so we will see.

As for Markese he is much more likely to move down by all accounts from talking to people around recruiting and rankings. That said I don’t think it means much and I do hope he ends up at KU. He’s bouncy and athletic. Just needs some work on his jumper and to improve his passing instincts.

  • Rj Hampton just get offer by Memphis Tigers

  • Nova continues to run laps on people in recruiting. 2 4 star commits already. Moore the latest, a Top 60 guard with size. Can only imagine he’ll become the latest great from there in time

I just assume he will redshirt and play insane defense and shoot threes at a 40%+ clip by his JR year.

  • @BeddieKU23

I am sure their recent success is opening doors to players previously unavailable. The question is, will it result in higher ranked players that leave earlier and ruin the system that has proven to be successful with older, more experienced players?

Both of these guys fit their model to a T. Dixon a borderline Top 100 guy and Moore a Top 60 ish kid that missed a year due to injury. That’s their sweet spot

With the recent success they are involved with higher ranked kids though in 19 & 2020 classes. They may not land any but they definitely have their foot in the door where they didn’t before

Also Brunson was very highly ranked and stayed 3 years.

Both these guys fit the mold for sure. I mean the one kid is a 6’6’’ center. That’s vintage Jay Wright right there.

The Arizona mess gifted them JQ who I think is right there after the top tier of PGs in this class. I’m not sure I see a single OAD PG in this class tbh. Quickley might be because Kentucky. It’s ridiculous that Tre Jones is the #1 PG by some services. But whatever, Dotson can just prove it on the court.

Brunson, just a different cat. Agreed.

Definitely JQ was gifted. He’ll be there a few years too, maybe 3 LOL.

Quickley, Garland are the two most likely OAD’s I think. Still I wouldn’t trade Dotson for any of them, I’ve thought that since last summer. Jones is being recruited over so he might not have a choice.

KU arguably landed the best College PG (Dotson) and best Pro potential PG (Grimes)
